I didn’t start my career in tech.

I spent twenty years teaching and transitioned into data science in my forties. I failed my first data science interview, fixed what I missed, turned it around, and got the job I originally interviewed for.

Today, I’m a working Data Scientist and AI Developer who’s been through the challenges of this path and now mentors and guides aspiring data scientists and career changers.

Data Scientist

Applying to 100 data science jobs isn’t a strategy. It’s stress.
Here are 6 steps I would follow today:

1.  Pick three companies I genuinely care about.
2.  Study their data science job postings like cheat sheets.
3.  Build a project that mirrors the problems they’re hiring for.
4.  Reach out to someone on the data or ML team.
5.  Ask thoughtful, role-specific questions.
6.  Then apply, with a referral.

eMarketing Specialist/Coordinator

Indiana Department of Workforce Development

Oversaw the strategic distribution and administration of $50 million in federal and state grant funds. 
Led a statewide team of Market Support Specialists and regional Business Consultants in the strategic development, continuous improvement, and administration of statewide workforce and economic development initiatives.
 Coordinated with community-based economic development entities and Regional Workforce Boards to implement state provided employer services in their local communities.

Strategic Research & Development - Director of Market Development

Managed a team of eight Specialists that utilized labor market information to strategically develop and implement federally-funded training programs and other business services provided by the state of Indiana.
Led the development and implementation of the agency's first online grant application.
Streamlined data collection and reporting which led to a 50% reduction in time required to produce the agency's Annual Report.

Strategic Research & Development - Manager of Market Support 

Served as a regional consultant responsible for the marketing and administration of government-funded employer grant programs in north central Indiana.
Worked directly with companies and local economic development entities to raise awareness of available grants and assist them with the various application and administrative processes.

Business Development - Business Consultant

Served as a public relations arm for the agency's Commissioner - investigating, resolving and responding to all constituent inquiries – while providing other writing and editorial support for the executive team.

I hold certifications as a Certified Scrum Master (CSM), a Certified SAFe® 5 Advanced Scrum Master (SASM), SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE), Agile Certified Coach (ICP-ACC) and Agile Team Facilitator demonstrating my commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

My mission is to empower, enable, and inspire my teams to achieve their goals and deliver value to their customers and stakeholders. I do this by serving as a coach, shield, facilitator, and remover of impediments, as well as by performing administrative duties and assisting with the release management process.
