2014 - I got my first job in marketing. 

I was hungry, competitive, ambitious as hell. 

2020 - I became CMO at 30.

18 months ago, I had zero clients. Sam had zero doubts.

We're from different cultures.
Different countries.
Different languages.

He doesn't understand my job.
Doesn't try to either.

When people ask what I do, he says:
"She helps people on the internet."

And that's enough.

Because here's what he does understand:

When I'm spiralling at 2am about a launch.
When I'm doubting everything I've built.
When the imposter syndrome lands so hard I can barely breathe.

He's the first to catch me.

"Remember who you are," he'll say.
"Remember why you started."

And when I'm playing small.
When I'm scared to launch that thing.

"Do it. Who cares. Stop caring."

Simple words.
But they work.

We met 2 months after I'd quit my job and launched my business. 

I had no clients and maximum delulu.

I was living on savings and stubbornness.

And wondering if I'd made the biggest mistake of my life.

He saw something I couldn't.

He saw me.

And he stayed.

I'm a child of divorce.

I can't pretend that doesn't impact how I show up in relationships.
It does.

But Sam sees through all of it.

Through the early months of no clients. 
Through the 1am client calls and weekend launches.
Through me canceling dinner. Again.

He's taught me things no business coach could:

→ Patience

Not everything needs to happen today.
Some dreams take time to bloom.

→ Perspective.
A failed launch isn't a failed life.
A bad month isn't a bad year.

→ Presence.
Success means nothing if you're too busy to enjoy it.
Money means nothing if you're alone counting it.

I used to be envious of people who talked about their partners like this.

I didn't get it.

Now I do.

Because when you're building something from nothing.
When you're betting everything on yourself.
When the world thinks you're crazy.

You need someone who sees you.

The messy, imperfect, trying-to-figure-it-out you.

Sam doesn't understand my business.

But he understands me.

And that's everything.

To everyone building something big:
Choose your person carefully.

The vision might change.
The business might pivot.
The goals might shift.

But the right person is your reminder of who you are.

When you forget.

And your biggest cheerleader when you're playing too small 🧡

This has been THE most important skill I’ve built.

And it’s not an obvious skill.

It’s delayed gratification.

The ability to keep going when nothing has paid off yet.
To keep building when there’s no applause.
To trust something you can’t yet see.

People enter this space thinking freedom businesses happen fast.
That you pick a niche, post for 30 days, and suddenly you’re “there.”

You’re not.

It takes longer than you think. 
And it asks more of you than you expect.

Yes, I had momentum early because I spent years building brands and scaling businesses in my career. Understanding markets, positioning, growth, that wasn’t new.

But building my thing? From scratch? With no safety net? Entirely different game.

I had no roadmap or guarantees.
Just a decision I made early:

I don’t know how.
I don’t know when.
I don’t know exactly what this becomes.
But it will work.

So I let things evolve instead of forcing perfection.

My offers got better through real market feedback.
My voice got stronger through consistent content.
My direction became clearer through action.

You don’t start with the perfect offer.
You don’t start knowing how content works.
You don’t start fully formed.

You become it by building in public, and that takes courage.

Real courage.

Because building something of your own will stretch you, expose you, test you…..and grow you.

It’s not always easy.
But if you stay in it long enough…

It becomes beautiful.

And one day you realise. the freedom you wanted wasn’t something you found.

It was something you built.

Age 18: My professor told me I was too shy to study PR. Said I should change course.

Age 22: Practised pitching in agency bathrooms. Alone. Terrified.

Age 30: First time CMO. Still felt like a fraud.

Age 31: Failed my first business. Got made redundant when my boss found out about my side hustle.

I spent 12 years in corporate.

I learned a lot.
I earned well.
I built credibility.

But I was still operating inside someone else’s definition of success.

Every bigger idea came with commentary.

“Is that realistic?”

January 2024. I crossed £25K in a single month.

I was 6 months into my business.

From the outside, it looked like I was winning.

From the inside, I was drowning.

I'd left corporate for freedom.

Yet without really realising, I'd built myself another cage.

Every project was custom.

Every client needed me.

Every deliverable lived in my head.

I was the bottleneck, the product and the ceiling.

Nobody is watching you.

I mean that literally.

There's a Cornell University study where researchers sent a woman into a crowded party wearing a hideous jumper.

Afterwards they asked her how it went.

She said it was awful. She'd spent the whole night convinced everyone had clocked it. That she was the talk of the room.

So the researchers went back and asked every single person at the party: did you notice the girl in the jumper?

Not one person could identify her.

Psychologists call this the spotlight effect.

We walk through life genuinely believing we're centre stage. 
That everyone is tracking our moves, our missteps, our choices.

The reality is people are far too busy living inside their own heads to be living inside yours.

I think about this constantly when it comes to building a business.

The post you're afraid to publish.
The price point you keep second-guessing.
The offer you haven't launched because it's not quite right.
The niche you won't commit to in case someone thinks it's wrong.

All of it held hostage by an audience that isn't even watching.

I was on a LinkedIn Live yesterday with my friend Moe Choice and we talked about this idea of burning the ships.

Going all in with such totality that retreat isn't even visible from where you're standing.

Most people keep a plan B. They call it sensible.

What it actually does is keep one foot in the world where failure is still an option. Where you can always explain away the half-attempt.

The only standing between you and a business you're obsessed with isn't your niche, your content strategy or your offer suite.

It's the willingness to stop performing for an audience that was never there.

No one is watching you fail. 
They're not watching you stumble. 
They're notwatching you wear the hideous jumper.

If I had to rebuild my 6-figure brand from scratch...

I wouldn't do more. I'd do less. But better.

Here are the four things I'd actually do:

🟠 I'd fix my positioning before I touched my content

When people say they need "more reach" what they actually mean is: 
"No one feels urgency to buy what I'm selling"

That's not an algorithm problem. That's a you problem.

Safe positioning doesn't scale. 
If your offer applies to half the internet, it converts none of it.

🟠 I'd pick one problem

....the expensive one.
The one people are already frustrated enough to pay to fix. 
The one that wakes them up at 3am.

One problem. One outcome. One sentence to explain it. 
If it takes a paragraph, it's muddy.

🟠 I'd sell it before I perfected it

"It's not ready" is just fear.
I wasted months creating offers no one had asked for. 
Revenue is the best coach you'll ever have.

🟠 I'd let proof do the talking

People aren't tired of content. 
They're tired of promises with nothing behind them.

Results. Real stories. Real numbers. 
That's what converts in 2026.

Moe Choice walked away from 12 startups in Dubai.

I walked away from 12 years in corporate.

We'd never met. But when we finally talked, it took about four minutes to realise we'd reached the same conclusion from completely opposite directions.
