As Sales Engineering Manager, I was responsible for the Pre-Sales Engineers supporting the Direct and Indirect Sales Teams in the Northwest Region, including: San Francisco, Sacramento, Denver, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Spokane. Recruiting, developing, coaching and assisting Sales Engineers to deliver best in class solutions for highly complex WAN/LAN environments. Involved in the sales cycle from beginning to end, delivering presentations to audiences including C-Level decision makers, discussing customer challenges and developing business solutions to enhance capabilities of client networks and communications. I use performance based goals to coach and develop the team, while providing ongoing education on complex technologies and products.

Sales Engineering Senior Manager

Pre-sales engineer for National and Strategic accounts responsible for the design of complex WAN and voice solutions, including converged services such as MPLS, VPLS. Enterprise SIP, and traditional private line, SONET and wavelength services.. I also leverage managed services utilizing the broad list of IP based products, such as Hosted Security, Hosted PBX and Content Delivery, to form solutions for the customer's voice and data needs. I am involved from pre-sales through implementation, responsible for ensuring the design meets the customer's expectations. I use a consultative sales approach, and continue working with customers to leverage technology to enhance their business flows and drive down expenses.

I have served on the VoIP Subject Matter Expert team since 2009 to assist engineers across the country with complex VoIP solutions, especially Enterprise class SIP trunking.

Advanced Communication Solutions

Responsible for running the Service Department for the company, including technical support staff, project managers, network engineers and administrative personnel. Also, I handled all aspects of IT for the organization, maintaining multi-location network and handling technical support group within the organization. Developed and managed Network Services department for company focusing on Wide Area Networks for voice and data applications.

Vice President of Service

Handled all day to day operations of the Service Department, including recruiting, hiring, MBO, customer escalations, dispatching, Tier III technical support and training.

Designed and implemented VoIP systems for Enterprise customers.

Designed and Implemented complex Enterprise class Unified Communication and Contact Center solutions.

Being generous makes everyone’s life better.  It doesn’t matter if you are the giver, the receiver, or just an on-looker.   

Bob learned this lesson at a very young age.  In fact, if it wasn’t for some generous acts, Bob likely wouldn’t be here today.  He has dedicated his life to empowering mission-driven organizations to build cultures of generosity that are made up of fulfilled employees and satisfied customers.

The Generosity Guy has worked professionally and in volunteer roles for 23 years, in three different countries, and in 17 states.

When Bob was given a cancer diagnosis and experienced the tragic events of 9/11 in New York City,  he thought not only his life over, but everyone else’s too.  He went from feeling like an invincible 18-year-old to an unworthy victim of life.  

What happened in the months and years following was truly miraculous - or was it generous?  The acts of generosity he experienced saved his life.

The most important lesson I learned as an employee came in an unexpected way.

(It wasn't a training or a mentor)


𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗯𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲.

A lot of companies try to motivate their people by:

➡ leaderboards
➡ lavish travel
➡ incentives
➡ privileges
➡ trophies
➡ time off
➡ fear

These things make people line up against each other in an obstacle course every day.

𝘜𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺, 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 1 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘴.

This means the bigger the "team", the more losers.


𝗜 "𝗪𝗼𝗻"

But I really lost.

🙋🏼𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘺

I won one of those contests.

You'd think I'd be thrilled as the new guy.

But it was actually just luck.

I didn't get better.

𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵.


𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Make no mistake, I wanted to win the contest myself.

But I realized my veteran colleagues knew better.

They took part in plenty of these obstacle course contests long before I arrived.

It was always something with a financial incentive and encouragement to outrun their fellow team members.

🫱🏼‍🫲🏾𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥.

Collaboration was much healthier...

...for them 𝘢𝘯𝘥 the business.

The market is saturated to say the least.  But...

𝗪𝗲'𝘃𝗲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.

Don't just see paratriathlete "overcoming the odds".

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘮𝘪𝘻𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵.

This isn't just about:

➡ determination
➡ perseverance
➡ inspiration
➡ toughness

💪🏼He's got all those.

But if that's the only thing you see...

...you're missing something.


𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗼𝗻: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗿

Some sports require you do one thing really well.

The unique thing about triathlons is you have to be an excellent swimmer, biker, and runner.

A lot of things have to come together.

Think about all the other things that come together in this type of competition:

➡ the entire event itself
➡ the robotic technology
➡ help from the other person

and of course, the athletes' talent.

👉🏼We live and work in a complex world.

A lot of things have to come together for greatness.


𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀?

I encourage you to see more than a grind in your life and work.

📈Limitations are opportunities to collaborate.

📈Collaborations are opportunities to grow.

📈Growth is what we all need.

📈𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵.

I'm okay with you celebrating this individual effort.

We just need think bigger and better.

There's something I wish they told me when I started my career.

(cuz I wasn't)


𝗜𝘁 𝗮𝗶𝗻'𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝘆.

Seems simple but we forget this the longer we are in a job.

♦️Some expect perfection.

♦️Some expect constant progress.

♦️Others expect you to just show up daily.

I've been all of these, but one thing always remained.


𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗶𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗨𝗴𝗹𝘆

And maybe that makes life and work beautiful.

🔷You can do everything perfectly and lose.

🔷But you can also look terrible and be victorious.


𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗜 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.

Run each race to the best of your abilities.

You might trip at the end.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄

I always talk about being extremely intentional with generous workplace culture. 

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. 

It means you have a plan and expect to learn as you execute. 

In other words, learning from your plan for helping the people you work with is just as important as executing.

What sustainable impact would you have if your generosity was a one and done thing? 


𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗣𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀

Because they measure things like: 

▶️ Employee engagement
▶️ Participation rates
▶️ Net capacity 
▶️ Retention 
▶️ ROI 

All good for measuring single events or periods of time. 

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘮. 

👉🏼And momentum wins in culture.
