How did I end up a MARCOM executive after starting off as a fighter jet engine mechanic? Glad no one asked 🤣, but I am going to tell you anyway lol because other veterans need to realize that no one is holding them back after they get out of the military - the world is now your oyster. 

I never once thought about a marketing career, but after running my own consulting business for 5 years and starting to be a content creator on linkedin back in 2018...I learned how to market "work culture" & it's importance, so that I could bring in the $$ for my business and hopefully set light bulbs off in leaderships head to start doing better for their people. To be able to get 50k+ people to take interest in work culture was no easy feat, I assure you.

Of course I learned a lot in the military, but I think my ability to pivot & adapt (which the military strengthened) sure did help. From mechanic, to flight crew for the Secretary of Defense, to propulsion manager, to aerospace (NASA) planning, to program management (DOE) I truly got to see the ins and outs of it all from so many different vantage points, especially so when I was a business owner working with C-suite/VPs everyday. The pain points, the things that make people thrive, the politics, the emotional intelligence or lack thereof, & the psychology behind social media - it all played a part in getting me here.

I now help E&M Technologies, Inc. become a more well known GovCon. We have over 85% veterans, so I get to market to a community I know very well as both a veteran and now a milspo. Branding was part of my toolbox, building Vision/mission statements and guiding CEO/Founders on how to choose the correct core values for their company - all made marketing a brand easy for me in this space, because I truly understand the deeper complexities of how these things have 2nd and 3rd order effects for the business long term.

Some may say I am a jack of all trades, but master of none...that's fine, to each their own. I am a master of self & that is what got me here, so do what you will with that information. I just ask that you bet on yourself and do great things. Take what you learn from everywhere & put that intelligence to WORK!

I had the absolute pleasure of getting to meet Glenn Patti in person at one of our company holiday parties recently! This is about to hit some of yall like a ton of bricks, but I have to say it...titles do not always mean good pay. You'd be surprised how many people hold a fancy title & yet you get paid more than they do.

PS - Change your perspective and change your life

This is real talk. You can’t expect people to report vital information if you don’t have a work culture that makes them feel safe enough to do so. 

I do know this from seeing it with my own eyes before. If the psychological safety of a workplace is non-existent, employees will report issues…

👀➡️ It’s just not going to be to internally

🚨➡️ It’s going to be to places that can come down on you like a hammer (OSHA, EEOC, & more).

So, ensure you keep your culture healthy for the people who bring you profit (employees) as well as avoiding these types of headaches.
