Military leadership is the best in the world because its principles have been stress-tested in the most challenging circumstances humans can experience.

Carrots and sticks mean nothing when a leader’s direction could result in injury or death. But people do extraordinary things when they believe in the mission and have deep confidence and trust in their leaders.

Big visions need the same - a team of motivated people willing to do extraordinary things. They need to buy into your mission and have trust and confidence in you.

As an army officer I have had the privilege of leading specialist teams in high performance environments for nearly a decade – including in high-stress conflict zones, and at scale during a once-in-a-century pandemic.

•	I’ve wrestled with the weight of responsibility of leading over 100 people in a demanding environment.

•	I’ve even found strategies to keep life in balance when work feels all-consuming.

Developing others, doing meaningful work, and making an impact in the world have always mattered to me. All of my career decisions have been shaped by this drive - both military and civilian. 

I know this is feeling is shared by CEOs. They are by far the most impactful group of visionaries, and high-performance change-makers in the world. 

I knew I could resonate with their motivations, and I knew my experience of leading at scale and under stress could help them achieve their visions.

And as an Army Reservist I continue to lead high performance teams in challenging environments. I practice what I preach and hone my skills every day.
