To work within the Skegoneill community, to build their capacity to engage in good relation with their neighbors in Glandore. As part of a team, I assisted volunteers and helped them to develop community capacity, while realizing their potent to actively promote good relations. This includes youth projects, women’s development, inclusion events, physical/environment and social/economic sustainability projects

The Two Parks Project (Ashton Community Trust)

Streets engagement  with hard to reach young people who were at risk of involvement in destructive behavior, the project set out as a single identity programme, working primarily with young people from the nationalist Whitewell, engaging them in issues such as personal development, job skills, citizenship, outdoor pursuits/health and conflict resolution skills. 
However, due to an upsurge of interface conflict between young people from both communities, the project refocused on interventions that led to the development of youth led conflict resolution initiatives that are seen as best practice.(Whitewell Youth Mediation Project) Other success were the first carnival Halloween lantern possession in North Belfast  to challenge shared space  in Greencastle. The project was also a founding participant on the Hazelwood Community partnership.
The projects also run a youth drop-in, at the CEP building on the shore Rd. This was a parallel project which also was working on the Limestone rd., funded by the Big Lottery.

Short Strand Community forum

The project aided and encouraged the development of interface dialogue between residents, community groups, statutory and influential stakeholders, within Inner East Belfast and Short Strand. Also to increase participation of Interface networks, phone contacts and communications systems between the two communities. The project established and encourages the expansion of youth based projects that explore the issue of conflict between the communities. I was involved in introducing independent monitors from BIP, Mediation Northern Ireland and TIDES as interface observers.

Groundwork

We developed a youth programme between short Strand and Inner East Belfast, connecting the theme of contested space, mental health, environment and conflict related symptoms to positive youth work. This project was an award winning project, which put young people to the fore of developing material and resource that explored mental health in a conflict/interface community. The use of environment to address relationships was central to the success of this programme.
