This is a very special shoutout today. My good friend Matthew Waggoner, an extremely experienced Physical Therapist, is launching his own business, Reinvention One. 

His goal is to help Athletes and Executives go from pain to performance. Instead of just working with clients until the pain is gone, Matthew provides a full transformational approach, helping people to achieve their highest performance possible, whether on the field or in the boardroom. 

I have PERSONAL experience with his expertise. I was experiencing pain in my shoulder during bench pressing earlier this year. A client of mine just sent me this DM:

"Reading your book, used some of the ideas, came up with my most recent LinkedIn post on thankfulness for my 'on mission' family. It has seriously taken off, not sure exactly why. It's not terribly different than a lot of other posts I've written, but I've gone from 100-500 "impressions" and single digit interactions to well over 5000 impressions, 100 profile views, 20 new followers, and a slew of PM's and new connections. 

Trying to figure out if it's the elbow in the curve of steady posting and working the LinkedIn Platform, or if it is something specific about the post that got things going. Would like to duplicate the success and build, appreciate any perspectives that you have. I imagine the primary factor is a really nice head shot ;)"

Here's the essence of my response:

1) Having a more pro headshot definitely makes your profile more noticeable and helps you look more like an expert in your industry and less like a high school yearbook.

2) His recent post that blew up is more relatable to a broader audience of people. He's an incredible doctor, but the majority of his previous posts were so industry focused that it probably didn't connect well with his audience. 

3) This post has a great "hook" to draw people in and encourage them to click the "see more" button in the caption.

4) The "meat" of the post is a great behind the scenes look at his family life, his unique take on "work-life balance", and how the whole family participates in the "mission." Really cool stuff.

5) He ended the post with a great call to action by asking people to share their experience with this topic, and it resulted in a bunch of engagement.

This is what I LOVE to see from readers of my book. It's not just a bunch of theory. It's a practical guide for people/business owners trying to build an impactful brand.

Learn the principles. And then go and DO.

In honor of founders everywhere just trying to do their jobs without losing their minds… here are some REALLY FREAKING WEIRD things that have been said to me over the last 5 years of owning a business:


1. “You’re too young to have an office space.” (A relative. At Christmas. With the confidence of someone who’s never paid rent.)

2. “You becoming a mom has made you more intense.” (Oh, you mean the boundaries? Yeah. Those.)

3. “Do you really think this business will sustain you?” (Honestly, at the time I also didn’t know. But why would you say that out loud lololol.)

4. “A beanie is not a hat. Look it up in the dictionary.” (An employee. Attempting to lawyer their way out of our no-hat rule. In a Zoom meeting.)

5. “Will you and your team be willing to work for commission only?” (Said three months into a six-month contract. Reader… we were not.)

6. “Please accept this plant and box of chocolates as an apology for ripping apart your expertise AND your proposal. Will you still work with me?”
(To this day, I still have no words. Except maybe: ‘The plant died.’)

You know what I did when people said this stuff?

Mostly smiled, nodded, and internally cringed/cried.

Because at the time I thought:

 – That’s just how business is.
 – Being young = automatic imposter syndrome.
 – Saying nothing is the “professional” thing to do.

Except the beanie situation. That got a write-up LOL.

Maybe just maybe the real lesson is this:

Running a business gives you the confidence to stop entertaining nonsense, start charging for your time, and say “no” faster than Outlook loads on... any given day.

Most brands don’t need bigger discounts.
They need bigger TASTE.

2025 Black Friday winners SO FAR are =

⭐ creators who know exactly what their people want (Karrie Locher)
⭐ founder emails that feel like texts (De Soi / Scout Brisson)
⭐ experiences people actually want to interact with (poppi's site, right now)
⭐ a free gift that feels intentional (Primally Pure)
⭐ brands that know when to sit it out

Black Friday used to reward volume.

Now it rewards creativity.

Our inboxes and SMS notifications are feral at this point. Most people are shopping practically... and mostly from the brands they already love.

When it comes to promos (especially ending this year and going into 2026) the question is NOT: “How much do we discount?”

It’s identifying “What’s the one thing our loyalists would actually be excited to see right now?”
