So glad to see you here. A little about me!

I’m the Senior Clinical Supervisor of The Better Center, which is a group private practice/therapy center. I help manage and direct all clinical aspects of the center, including interviewing potential hires, policy, trainings and providing supervision for all Clinicians. Reach out with any questions or to collaborate!


Additionally, I have a small private practice. A little about that! I’m extremely passionate about everything therapy-related. I love working with people and helping people. And that comes across in my work!  My style is interpersonal and friendly, warm and supportive. Additionally I’m known to be a goal-oriented and focused therapist who gets results! 


Some areas of specialty: Anxiety, Mood Disorders, Emotion Regulation, OCD, Parenting, Relationships, Panic Attacks, Phobias and Trauma.  I’m also honored to provide therapy to other therapists and Clinical Supervision as well. Modalities that I’m well trained in include CBT, DBT and Schema therapy and also Mindfulness, EFT, EMDR, ACT and Gottman. 


I have also been employed at Chemed Health Center for over 12 years and enjoy being a therapist and supervisor there.

My shortest session ever?

I think it was something like 2 minutes. Maybe 5 minutes.

Was with a teen ( of course!) Stormed out.
And you know what? Totally my fault.

Of course I didn’t do anything “bad”. But you gotta know your population! Different wording, affect, body language.

I don’t remember exactly what I said. Probably something about why they came, or things to work on. Doesn’t matter. I could have done better. First sessions with these kinds of situations the stakes are high, gotta be smart.

Now, it’s true that he was extremely oppositional, defiant, impulsive, and really struggling. And been to other therapists with no success. So could be unlikely would go anywhere. But none of that matters.
My job is to know all that and be smart. Know how to relate to teens.

BH many years later there is little that fazes me.
I’ve gotten more smooth, more confident, more flexible, more humble. And like anyone who works with teens knows, more irreverent.

And I very rarely have sessions that result in the client getting explosive and storming out.
And if would happen, unfortunate but also ok.
We can only try. 

So important to reflect on our journey and appreciate the growth. And still be growing.

But is it as interesting and captivating as a picture of a steak?! Or chicken sandwich 

It’s interesting to see people complain about LinkedIn. They say it’s boring. Or doesn’t help or lead to business.

Then you take a peek and see they don’t even engage with the comments.. Someone took the time to engage with you. They took a chance.
Their reward? Being ignored. Lost opportunity 

Here are some benefits of LinkedIn:

1. Great chance to express yourself. Journal 

2. Get to know people. Relationships. Network 
And those can all lead to business 

3. Learn from others. Teach others and sharpen your own knowledge 

4. Business and career opportunities. Job opportunities. Hire candidates 

But all of these require investing some time.
To understand the platform. Thoughtful and relevant contact. Engaging with people.
Creating relationships.

Have fun with it! But have some understanding and strategy.

And yet all that are connected with me know exactly my style, my jobs and what I offer.

What is one thing you find helpful about LinkedIn?

Many years ago I volunteered to accompany a Meshulach door to door in my neighborhood to help them collect much needed funds.

At one house a small child gave us each a can of soda “here, take this”. Such a well-raised child, clearly a product of tremendous Chinuch.

I didn’t really want it and tried explaining to the child I live a few blocks away and I’m good. Plus would be hard to carry and not practical. He insisted I should just take it so of course I did.

And had absolutely no idea what to do with it!
A warm can of soda? If anything would have preferred water. I think I just stuck it in my pocket. 

I would like to highlight 2 valuable lessons from this story. One, need to give people what they need. Not what you have or what you want.
Yes, it’s such a beautiful thing to give out drinks. But cans of soda are not practical.
For the same price and effort, buy water!
This can be true for customers, with parenting, anything. Don’t just do what works for you. Or what you’re used to. Do what’s wanted and needed.

And two, sometimes you need to take even if it’s not wanted or needed. It’s for the giver. By being a taker, you’re actually being a giver.

That actually reminds me of another story which I’ll put in the comments.

What’s your takeaway from this story?

Should parents be present in the therapy room together with their kids?

Of course the answer is.. it depends!

But for most kids the answer is no.

Let’s look at the pros and cons of each.

One of the reasons why therapy is successful is because it’s a fresh start. A chance to change.
Also, it’s a neutral setting. It’s NOT home.

So if a parent is present:
1. You lose some of those benefits 
2. The child may “act out” or put on a “performance “ for the parent. Harder to change.
3. The parents own issues are present. And gets blurred who is the client. If the parent struggles with anxiety, and the kid feels it in the session, mitigates the effectiveness.

On the other hand! If the child is anxious having the parent there can help regulate them. But often that’s only first session or two. Then the kid is fine and totally comfortable.

Having the parent present can help with having more information. Can help to work on family dynamics. Can work on the child’s behavior, work on changing or improving their relationship or their interactions. Increase attachment ( let’s keep in mind not all therapists are trained for a lot of this. The more people in the room, family therapy, the more complex. If not trained in family therapy, best to not be reckless)

In summation, most kids do great coming alone. And we need to make sure if the parent is present, it’s for a reason and the therapist agrees with it and it’s helping. ( of course if the kid is very anxious and asks for their parent first session or two that’s totally fine. And if the parent is present and helps them feel more comfortable about the process, that is important as well)

Most parents assume their kid will be more or less coming by themselves. If they ask if they will be present, I always say I’m equally comfortable either way and whatever is clinically best for their child.

I also stress the importance of working together, knowing what’s going on, joining sometimes and for parenting sessions.

We all love how agreeable and positive it can be.. apparently has some backbone!

I asked something like “When CBT is done in compassionate way is it similar to IFS”?

Did not love the comparison!

Agreed that there are similarities: Both can feel warm, validating, and non-judgemental. Both can help you notice your emotions instead of feeling fused to them ( me, not ChatGPT: IFS talks about SELF, in CBT it’s a core belief, in DBT it’s Wise Mind) 

Both have aspects of being curious, gentle and of course healing.

But said they are still fundamentally different.
CBT is liked because clear, structured and practical. IFS has its own advantages.

What do you think, do you think when therapy is done in humanistic and compassionate way many modalities are similar and have over-lap?
Or not going for it?

Does ChatGPT ever talk back to you?

Or scheduling with with calendly?!

We live in a fast-paced world. Often both husband and wife work, kids, life stressors.

It’s a real challenge to spend quality time.
But it’s so important to invest in that.

I’m not one who says “date night” is the most important thing with marriage. But some version of that is definitely part of what’s important.

Quality time. Talking. Checking in with each other. Validating. Sometimes having real conversations and even deep ones.
Every couple is different and have different wants and needs.

But connection is always important.
And always a good idea to get away every now and then, whether once a day, week or go away for a night or longer!

PS there is a great book “Together” coming out soon. I was asked to review and write a few words of endorsement. Not quite yet but keep a look out!

Do you think couples find it challenging to spend quality time?

Push that cart!!

Much of the time the shopping carts in stores don’t work great. Usually one wheel is a little broken and hard to push. But we get there.
We complete the shopping and have the items 

I had the following thought:
We are like that cart sometimes!
Rolling along, making moves. But not easy!

One wheel broken, something not working properly. Hard to push through. Frustrating!

But we push!
And do our best to make it to whatever the particular finish line is. 
Even to successfully complete another week doing the best we can.
