Before that, I spent years in the creative and communications space at a large multi-campus church, overseeing everything from weekly service production and brand overhauls to live event management and volunteer coordination. Eva Rose Daniel

For the first three years of my business I worked from my laundry room on an old Mac computer.

A “standing desk” meant flipping over a laundry hamper.

Every time I had to pee I would either have to crawl under the desk or move it out of the way.

I used to post about it. I thought it was hilarious and it was my Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, or Dave Ramsey in a garage or folding table humble beginnings story.

But then an internet jerk literally said that if I couldn’t afford an office maybe I wasn’t ready to start a business. 😵‍💫🤯😳.

I’m not sure why it insulted me so much but I have to say I love proving people wrong. 

Usually when I start new jobs or things I feel totally underestimated.

I now make 3x more what I was working my last job and believe I’m just getting started.

Now, I have an awesome home office. Complete with a Dolly poster and a copy of the Man in the Arena (the GOAT of speeches).

I still can’t quite figure out how to arrange books by color. 😅

I’m not telling you this to brag…my house is still small and my 7 year old now gets to share a room with her 4 year old brother (she is underwhelmed and suggested I put him in the laundry room 😂). 

I tell you this to inspire you to hold on to your humble beginnings. Everyone has one. Take more pictures of it. Keep going. And don’t let internet jerks get you down.

Today is my 43rd birthday — but it was on the cusp of my 40th that I had a catalyst moment.

I was in the middle of a long run, training for a half marathon, listening to The Power of Regret by Daniel Pink. In it, he shared survey results from over 18,000 people on their biggest life regrets.

The biggest finding?
People usually regret more the things they didn’t do than the things they did do.

It stopped me dead in my tracks.

It’s not that the concept was new — but that day, I heard it in a new way. 

And I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I was going to quit my job and take a bet on myself.

I’d spent way too much of my 20s and 30s chasing other people’s dreams and expectations for my life.
I let insecurities make my choices.
I let comparison steal a lot of my joy.

Both of those decades are gone.

Now, I’m squarely in my 40s — and so far, I love it  (even if half of all conversations with friends now revolve around supplements and how we need to do more strength training. 😄)

I’ve found more of myself in the last few years.

Sometimes I wonder if most of our lives are just spent discovering and rediscovering who we are — and who we were always meant to be.

So today, and in the year to come, I’m leaning into what I’m calling my decade of “Yes.”

Yes to risk.
Yes to generosity.
Yes to new dreams.
Yes to living lighter.
Yes to new opportunities.
Yes to seeing more of the world.
Yes to the work that lights me up.
Yes to creating what I wish existed.
Yes to more wonder and less worry.
Yes to showing up before I feel ready.
Yes to starting over — again and again.
Yes to voices that make me think bigger.
Yes to what scares me because it matters.
Yes to growth that doesn’t look glamorous.
Yes to fewer “shoulds” and more “want tos.”
Yes to being honest about what I really want.
Yes to grace for who I was and who I’m becoming.

16  years ago while writing wedding vows I came across a poem by Robert Browning that I love and always find fitting on birthdays:

“Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
the last of life, for which the first was made.
Our times are in His hand who saith,
‘A whole I planned, youth shows but half;
Trust God: see all, nor be afraid!’”

Here’s to 43! 🥳

P.P.S. Did I do this post as a shameless plug for more birthday wishes? Absolutely. I am the youngest of three and according to my sisters will never change. 😆

You shouldn't be spending 15 hours to prepare a 5 minute presentation.

And let's face it, out here in the real world often you're told today that you're presenting tomorrow morning (or this afternoon).

Instead of freaking out, ask a few questions and use my SPARK framework to outline your talk.

You'll still need to develop out the content and practice the delivery, but you can create a well-ordered presentation on a tight deadline. 

Your time is too valuable to be spinning your wheels for hours trying to organize what you're trying to say.

How to Create a Presentation Faster

I’ve spent the last few days at a Women Doing Well event in Jackson Hole, WY and it’s been amazing!

It was fun to connect with a former client Julie Wilson, a few members of my Speak School membership including Mary Shaw, Jean Park, and Cindy Halsted, and meet so many other amazing women like AJ Bishop-Andrews, Ruth Malhotra, and DeLayna Michele Elliott.  

One of my biggest takeaways from the conference is that generosity is the key that unlocks your life’s purpose.

(And a huge highlight was hiking in the Grand Tetons!)

Last night it was fabulous to see my client Kristin Parks crush it on the stage at the Show Hope fellowship weekend.

Founded by Steven Curtis and Mary Beth Chapman, Show Hope does amazing work to provide adoption aid grants, pre and post adoption support, and medical care grants.

This was my third year getting to work with Kristin for this event and it’s been awesome to see her grow as a speaker.

(It’s also a fun event filled with live music and so much more! I always get so caught up in the event I forget to take many pictures 😅).

A lot of my life looks like zooms with clients or watching them speak on stages.

Today was one of those where I got to lean back on the 15 years I spent in radio and podcasting. 

It was amazing working with Theresa Harper Bruno recording a couple episodes of her show. 

(Also fun to meet Lindsay Lawler and Dave Barnes and to see the Dark Horse recording studios!).

Today made me miss my first professional love of producing interviews deep in my soul.

Vocal Variety 

I recently began working with a new client, and we started where a lot of my clients start: with a blank page and tons of ideas.

In his case, he has years of newsletter content, podcast episodes, and even a book.

He asked me, “Where do I even start?!”

He was overwhelmed.

I get it.

You may have a lot to work with (like my client does), or maybe you’ve been asked to speak on something and you're drawing a blank.

Maybe you have months to prepare, or maybe you only have an hour.
Regardless of your situation, you have to start with a brainstorm.

The question is, what does that even look like?

How do you have a productive brainstorm that leads to clarity and great supporting content?

Giving a speech by yourself can be hard but you're in control. Giving a speech with someone else can bring on another whole set of challenges.
