The fastest way to RUIN your speech or presentation…

Is to realize you’re short on time.

Because most people get this wrong. 

Let me explain:

Early on in my career, whenever I realized I was short on time… 

Whether it was a presentation, speech, or even a meeting…

I’d speed up. 
Stop pausing.
Try to get through all the content I had planned. 

But every time… it was terrible.

People’s eyes would glaze over.

They were clearly struggling to follow along.

And it made me look disorganized.

Here’s what I learned: 

When you rush to get through everything, the audience doesn’t think:

“Wow, he is so efficient! 
He wants me to get the most out of this!”

They actually think: 

“He clearly didn’t manage his time well. 
Now he’s rushing to compensate.”

The best speakers do the opposite.

When they realize time is tight, they continue to keep their pace under control. 

But they edit on the spot. 

They cut anything that isn’t crucial.

Speak Like a Confident Leader in 7 Days

Heart of the City Piano Program (HCPP) is a volunteer-driven non-profit organization that provides music lessons to underprivileged youth.

How I answer questions that I DON’T know the answer to:

If you hate saying “I don’t know”

This is for you. 

Step 1: 

Acknowledge that you don’t know everything. 

But in a way that doesn’t make you sound silly. 

“I haven’t looked into that much yet”
“I don’t have all the details on that yet”

Step 2: 

Say whatever you DO know. 

“But what I do know is X”
“But what I can tell you is X”

Together: 

“I haven’t looked into that much yet, but what I do know is X.”

Now you get to answer in a way that sounds polished and smooth.

Doesn’t that sound better?

I used to get talked over in meetings ALL the time. 
Until I learned to do this:

Start my points with conviction. 

Not feelings. 

❌ “I feel like this might work better" 

This creates doubt.

✅ “This is a better option. The reason is...”

This creates respect.

And when people respect you more, 
they talk over you less. 

One of the things I often help clients with is 
explaining their points in a clear, concise way. 

When they improve this, 
everything else feels easier:

- Higher confidence speaking on the spot 
- Mouth and brain on the same page
- More composure in high pressure moments

You can excel in this too. 

Because it's just another learnable skill. 

P.S. Do you ever get talked over?

I used to hate meeting people.

Now I love it.

And it’s made life a lot easier.

But I didn’t become more outgoing.

I worked on 3 skills: 

1. First impressions. 

- Confident body language 
- Focus on the other person
- The right tone of voice 

2. Small talk. 

- Best questions to ask 
- Building connections quickly
- Steering conversations in positive directions 

3. Answering questions. 

- Making boring answers more interesting
- Being confident but not arrogant 
- Knowing when to joke and when to be serious 

Having go-to answers for common questions like: 

“What do you do?”

Has been particularly helpful. 

That one skill alone has led to clients, referrals, and opportunities I never expected.

My clients experience this too.  

One of my clients ended up interviewing for a job with a 30% higher salary… 

Because of a conversation with someone he met on the train. 

The man said my client "made a great first impression"

And connected him with someone from his company. 

My client didn't take the job because they needed him in the office more than he wanted, but the point still stands 😅

The more you level up these skills, 

The more these things will happen.

I still replay conversations in my head.

I think, “I should have said that differently”

And it bothers me. 

But thankfully, it doesn’t happen much anymore.

In fact, it’s pretty rare now. 

Only because I have tools I can rely on.

Tools to:

— Speak more clearly 
— Stay more composed 
— Articulate with intention 

And most of the time, I say what I mean to say.

But when I don’t….

There are other tools that help me move on quickly. 

(The “toolbox” has grown a lot over the years 🧰) 

Because there’s a big difference between: 

1.) Being annoyed about something for a few MINUTES 

vs.

2.) Being annoyed about something for a few DAYS 

Remember this: 

You don’t need to speak perfectly.

You just need the right tools to speak at your best.

And do you ever think “I should have said this differently”?

I used to feel overlooked in conversations.
It was my fault. These 5 things fixed that.

No personality change.

Just small communication shifts,
used consistently.

1. I stopped softening my words.

→ I removed maybe, probably, I think.
↳ I spoke in clear decisions.

"Let’s test this out."

2. I cut unnecessary apologies.

→ I stopped saying sorry by default.
↳ I shifted to thank you statements.

"Thanks for giving us an extra day."

3. I ended messages without cushioning.

→ No added details at the end.
↳ No extra convincing.

Precision.
I made my point land harder.

4. I accepted praise without shrinking.

→ I stopped deflecting compliments.
↳ I accepted, then went silent.

"I appreciate that."

5. I asked for what was needed.

→ No begging language.
↳ No drill sergeant orders either.

"Would you mind sending this by EOD Tuesday?"

Respectful. 
But gets the job done.

3 Simple Things I Do to Sound
More Confident Under Pressure: 

When I learned these, 
I no longer had to fake confidence. 

1.) Stop filling space with useless words. 

- Uses pauses instead.
- Pauses show you're in control. 

2.) Slow down and show composure. 

- Most people speed up when nervous.
- Confident people take their time. 

3. Speak to a person, not the room. 

- Don’t try to impress the group. 
- Speak as if you’re talking to 1 person. 

(people will feel more connected to you)

The good news is none of 
these take long to master. 

As long as you practice the right way,

You'll improve much quicker than you think.

 ↳ Multiple ideas at once is muddy. 
 ↳ What's the one thing you want to get across?

 ↳ No structure leads to word salad.

 ↳ People don’t care unless you make them care.
 ↳ “This is important because…”

𝟱.) 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗵𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗲 
↳  Have one key sentence to capture your big idea.
↳ Should be easy to say and remember. 

𝟲.) 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘁 
 ↳ You're probably adding unnecessary details. 
 ↳ Cut them out.

𝟳.) 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗥𝗔𝗥:  𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 → 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘇𝗲 → 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲
 ↳ Record yourself explaining it on the spot.  
 ↳ Analyze weak spots. Refine until polished

Communication isn’t about 
dumping information on people. 

It’s about getting them to 
understand and resonate with it. 

And most importantly, 
take action on it.

Are you usually a confident person,

This is very common. 

I work with a lot of high-performers who are exceptional at what they do.

But when:

- The pressure’s on 
- They're put on the spot 
- Intimidating ppl are around

Their communication doesn’t always reflect that at the highest level.

They walk out of meetings thinking:

“That didn’t come out the way I wanted it to.”

Here’s the good news.

If you’re already confident most of the time, you don’t need to change much.

For example, one of my clients Kim was in a solid place in her career.

But with high-level stakeholders,

She didn’t always like how she was coming across.

She’d rush through things or second-guess herself after speaking.

And after completing my 1-on-1 program,

She doesn't have to worry about those things anymore.

Why? 

- She knows how to speak with calm authority.

It’s 2026. STOP overexplaining yourself. 
(That means no more word zomit)

Have you ever heard someone take 3 mins to explain something that should have taken 30 secs? 

How frustrating is that to listen to? 

If you want to stand out as a clear, concise speaker, try using structure when explaining something. 

Here’s an example of structure: 

1.) Main idea/message 
2.) Why you think it
3.) Example or story to support it 
4.) Restate main idea/message 

In practice: 

1.) “Communication is one of the most valuable skills to learn.”

2.) “It helps you get more respect, build deeper relationships, and advance your career.”

3.) *Example of how improving my communication made me more successful*

(Or an example of how it helped someone else)

4.) “That’s why communication is one of the best skills a person can learn.”

I teach clients how to build the skills to speak with structure like this on the spot. 

So even if you don’t have time to prepare…

(which is most situations)  

You can be confident knowing you have the skills to give a clear, powerful answer.

Most people are on autopilot throughout the day.

So we dived right in: 

Each week, we met for a 1:1 session.
And we focused on one thing.

Helping him build the skills to speak with 
more clarity, confidence, and credibility.

and in moments that feel stressful)

We do a full analysis. 

Then we start building his skills.

Here’s the real reason you overthink important conversations:

It’s not just a lack of certainty or confidence.

It’s also what pressure does to your thinking.

How do you get it back?

Here are 3 things the best speakers in the world do: 

1.) Add some vocal variety.

— Speed up or slow down your pace 
— Raise or lower your volume 
— Emphasize a word or phrase 

2.) Ask a question.

Example:

"Has this ever happened to you? *pause*

How did that feel?" *pause again*

The pauses give them a chance to answer the question in their minds. 

3.) Get them involved with an exercise.

a.) Have them turn to the person next to them.

And practice what they just learned.

Or if that doesn’t make sense…

b.) Have them trade ideas on something that you just spoke about. 

This should be quite quick.

Around 30 seconds or so. 

Summary: 

— Vocal variety
— Questions
— Exercises

(Bonus: Tell a story)

Ideally these things would already be planned in advance. 

That way you don't lose your audience's attention to begin with. 

But if it does happen… 

You need to have the right tools on your tool belt.

Most people approach LinkedIn growth like this:
 
"I'm gonna send 200 connection requests, automate my DMs, and just grow!" 👀

Okay cool... 
but LinkedIn doesn't care about your growth hacks 💀

They care about keeping their platform CLEAN,
for real humans to connect

LinkedIn isn't anti-growth.
It's just anti-lazy growth. 

Here's what will get you banned👇 

→ Spammy connection requests 
→ Copy-paste DMs that are salesy
→ Fake profiles and fake authority 
→ Automation without limits 
→ Too many "I don't know this person" flags

Basically....
If You're trying to scale faster than you're building trust. 

And in 2026... 
LinkedIn's pattern-detection is NASTY
📉 One restriction can kill your momentum 
📉 One ban can erase YEARS of work

So here's your task (better... do it today)

1. Step 1: Use your REAL identity 
   → That fake US address, is not getting you clients
2. Step 2: Slow down 
   → < 100 requests per week = 🚩 Keep it personal
3. Step 3: Write like an actual human
   → Like the way you actually speak
4.  Step 4: Earn engagement BEFORE outreach 
   → Post. Comment. 
5. Step 5: Avoid shady tools
    → If LinkedIn didn't approve it, assume they're tracking it
   
That's it.
Growth is allowed. 
Spam is not.

We'd known each other for a year online, but this was our first 1:1

and I was kinda nervous (well SG's top creators duh??)
PLUS the whole mix up didn't help much.....😅

But when he showed up, actually dressed up as a Gen-z
I was like "We're definitely vibing now💛

"Thomas Hoon taught me 2 things....

1. You don't have to quit to build something new

If they complement each other, they can grow side by side. 

As someone building LinkedIn on the side, this was exactly what I needed 😅 

So yes, my 9-5ers... you don't have to quit your job to build a brand here 
(There, I said it 🎤)

2. Stay away from transactional people

The ones that start with: “What do I get?”

(Run!!🏃‍♂️)

Real connections never nego their value
They build it… slowly… together.

"Like... just look at us! Feels like friends meeting again
(And yes, I’m still not over his hat 😂)"

And now? 
We're actually working on something together

You might see him as a top creator... 

But he's really just a humble person,
an incredible mentor and a millennial who somehow knows how to Gen-Z... 😅

Why does LinkedIn still feel like this😭

Yesterday, I got asked this question (again).....

I've seen people apologize for posting... Yes...APOLOGIZE!!
To their own network for sharing their own thoughts 🙈

Fact is: No one should feel "cringed" for building their brand...
 
So if you want to balance your 9-5 + Linkie 
 
DON'T OVERTHINK IT

You need to make them feel that 
1. This is normal and 
2. You're just sharing value... (not quitting tomorrow 🙃)

So today let's break it down👇

1... Use your breaks to build here 
Yes your coffee, lunch or even smoke ones...
Use it to connect with folks that help your career

2... Comments > Posts (sometimes)
The days I just comment? Those are my fav 💛

Because you can just share opinions,
Less pressure more visibility.

3...  Your 9-5 IS your content strategy
Stop trying to invent a new person

You can use your existing experience,
to show how you know what you know.

Instead of: "7 ways to manage a team" 
Write: "I've managed teams for 20 years and I know how brutal it is when..."

See? Pretty simple right?

So let's talk about WHY you should bother:

Building on LinkedIn gives you Career Insurance

1. You create a brand that stays, 
even when you don't have a job

2. You get waitlisted now, 
without even sending a cold DM

3. You can go global rather than staying local

the value lies not just in who you know, 
but in who they know.

When I first started on LinkedIn (linkie, for me 💛),
 
I thought the secret was copying.
 Their tones, their hooks
 
I’d even ask GPT,
 “Make this sound like Jasmin.”
 
Only to read it back and think… 
“Why does this feel so… not me?” 😭
 Every post felt so off.

Why?
 I was forcing a voice that wasn’t mine.
 
I believed if I wrote in my own voice, no one would care.
I was wrong...
 
The moment I owned my voice, people didn’t just read
 they connected, they actually remembered!!
 
That’s when it clicked:
Your story already exists.💛
 
You just need to learn how to write them, and here’s how👇
 
1. Far Past: Lessons from your past. 
→Simple stories people can relate to.
 
Example: “Funny how my part-time jobs taught me more about selling than any classroom ever did.” 😂
 
2. Recent Past: Share what’s fresh. 
→Look at your social calendar or DMs for inspiration.
 
Example: “Recently caught up with an AI founder who wanted to shut AI out completely…”
 
3. Present:  Share your thoughts and ideas as they come
→Always carry a notebook..
 
Example: “I was reading Alex’s book when this thought hit me…”🥺
 
4. Trending: Jump into trending topics. 
→Add your own take to spark engagement.
 
Example: “Reach is down, yes. But we’re still ‘growing on LinkedIn’.”
 
5. Manufactured: Pick a topic your audience finds interesting
→Learn it and then share it. It’s more effort, but worth it.
 
Example: “I thought I knew design… until I realised the most important part was never taught.” 
 
The bottom line is life happens it does with all of us… 
You can benefit by just sharing it with others
 That’s how you win hearts, not just likes. 💛

Let's first talk about:

What no longer works👇
1. "Do you agree?" and "Comment YES" posts
3. AI comments, unless you want to get restricted now
4. Fake "day in the life" posts or "hustle" advice.
5. Posting daily just to spam people's feed.

Basically, everything the gurus taught? 
Linkie hates it now😂

    2025 was about reach

• Views increased ~50%
• Follower growth increased ~59%
• Generic AI content, engagement bait, and copy-paste formulas were used
  
  2026 is about relevance
  
• The feed is won by content
• Follower count is just a metric
 
BIG SHIFT:
 
From “Who is loud?” → “Is this post actually useful?”

Here's what does work in 2026👇

1. Structure your hook for everyone

→ Broad: Go for the emotion
Example: “You want them to follow you, but you never show your human side?”

→ Niche:  Deliver a specific, action tailored to your ICP.
Example: “Three things to avoid on LinkedIn in 2026.”

→ Deep:  End with a question, not a salesy P.S.
Example: "What will happen if your next post gets 0 likes?”

2. Comments are your "new" content

→ 8x more engagement than posts
→ SEO value as AI scrapes them
→ Warm leads without cold DMs
→ Find new people with just 10 comments/day

3. Move toward "Live, not organic sales"
   
→ Use LinkedIn Live  
→ Add limited-time offers 
→ Create urgency
 
People are literally selling within minutes of launching.

4. Use the “Pre-Hook”
   
→ Pin comments to get content ideas 
→ Announce upcoming events and build a waitlist

FOMO now beats the actual surprise

• Optimal: 3–5 posts/week
• Posts now live 2–3 weeks in the feed
• Daily posting = kills your reach
 
2. Format Preferences
 
• Text-only posts are back 
• Especially mobile-optimised (88% of users)
• Infographics > carousels for saves
• Carousels still work—but only when insight-dense, not “mini-courses”
 
And yes… the list goes on.

Because in 2026,  
Linkie doesn’t care who follows you.
It cares why your post matters now.

So if your content is not performing
maybe its converting this year ❤️

These days, we're out here spending 60% of our time searching or designing that perfect visual.
 
Adjusting colors. Testing layouts. Adding gradients.
and upscaling that blurred image...(canva☠️)
 
Meanwhile, the actual writing? 
The hook that's supposed to stop the scroll?
 
Hmm. That gets 10 minutes and a prayer.

But you see the most viral posts on LinkedIn?

They're just… text.

No fancy graphics. No stock images.
Just writing that actually speaks to us
 
Here's what makes them work 👇
 
• A strong opening. 
• One short, bold sentence.  
• Short sentences. Under 12 words.  
• A second line that pulls you in, not explains.  
• Simple formatting. Wave or 1–3–1 works best. 
• No lonely words on an empty line of sentence.
• One idea at a time, with spaces for your audience.
• And a gentle question at the end, for them to engage.

The engagement might come in one like at a time.
But then? All at once 💛

I've literally spent the last 2 hours analyzing business cards of famous leaders 😩
I know, I know... who actually does that?
 
But hear me out because what I found actually blew my mind 🤯

Steve Jobs?
Minimal white background, Apple logo, contact details. Done.
 
Bill Gates? 
Started with 70s neon colors. 
Now? he sticks to minimalism
 
Mark Zuckerberg? 
Two versions one professional, 
one that said "I'm CEO, bitch."💀
 
Walt Disney?
Literally, hand-drew a cartoon of himself at his desk.
 
Here's what was common in all of them👇

None of them were trying to impress anyone.

They weren't chasing the fanciest design or any trend.
 They were just being... intentional.
 
The pattern?
 
• Clear identity over complexity
• Functional designs over flashy ones
 
These leaders used their cards to represent who they already were.
 Not who they thought they should be.
 
Your brand works exactly the same way.💛
 
So.....Stop chasing trends. 
Just show up as yourself. (yes just you!)
 
P.S. f your business card could only say ONE thing about you, what would it be? 
Mine would probably say "just another ADHD person" 😂

You might have to show your art board for your next big project

So here I am showing up mine!

Watch me design a space launch sticker from scratch and here we go....🥹

This was for a SpaceX rocket launch
where one of the satellites went up (yes we in space 🥹)

Lately I've noticed 1 thing that makes designs resonate...
You need to show the story behind them
the messier your story = the stronger their emotion

So how do you actually do that?

1. Show them WHY you chose that theme
   "Why that color?" "What does it make them feel?" 
   
   Went with blue neon theme for this one
    Bold. Electric. A little futuristic.
   
   See how sharing the "why" makes you pause? 
   That's what clients need✨
   
2. Layer the steps to show the progress
   Am I saying show every step? 
   
   Nope... compile them
   
   → Just the before/after doesn't show the struggle
   → But showing 3-5 key moments? 
   That tells the REAL story
    
   PLUS... when people see the process, 
   they understand the value 👀
   
As creators, 
we could keep designing forever.  
 
But its important
we start sharing the story and the emotion behind it ❤️
