People felt it.

Calling out names in the choir.
Requesting the full song.
Begging for it on Spotify.

“I’ve never skipped a GAP ad once.”
“This is one of the greatest commercials I’ve ever seen on YouTube and Pinterest.”

This is what “native brand content” actually means.

Just wrapped up a little Thanksgiving with my partner in crime, Alyeska (my daughter, and we don't do any crimes). 

We kept it simple – some ham, chicken, mac and cheese, and fresh green beans with a great sauce. 

It got me thinking about how we approach building better relationships. And that can apply to business, especially in the B2B and service sectors. 🚀

Wouldn't it be great to stop the constant "selling" environment, and start creating a "buyers environment"? 

It’s where people naturally gravitate towards those they know, like, and trust. 

Building that connection is key. When people feel comfortable and confident, they're more inclined to engage. ✅


🤷🏻 So, how do we cultivate that trust and positive environment?

★ 1.  Solve their problems or alleviate their pain points:
This is the foundation. Show them you understand their challenges and have the solutions. That is real value. And you can even break the types into a 3-Tier Value Structure©️.

★ 2.  Let them get to know you on a more personal level:
Sharing a glimpse into your world, like our simple Thanksgiving, builds rapport. It humanizes the professional.

Why we built a business software tool for LinkedIn first.

As a Linkedin business consultant, I simply saw a gap in the market on this platform specfically. On LinkedIn there are 2 main areas for doing busienss for consultants and B2Bs. 

That is the DMs (LinkedIn Direct Messages) and the content (ie. posts).

The DMs, for the most part stopped converting. 

So at one time, they converted really well, and then everyone used automation, like you said, automation or something, and they were just selling, selling, selling, and it became very saturated. 

And so there was an opportunity to personalize (or even better hyper-personalize). 💪🏼

We perviously created a server system that sent videos. It was very similar to the LinkedIn phone app and it sent out baked video. Baked video is like one video for everything through automation, and it worked a lot better. 

Then we looked at it for personalization and said, you know what, it would be great to have a tool right on top of your browser. That I can do a video, click a button, boom, send it, and also be great to store and have instant access to the predetermined most common message replies (that way we can start with the subject and make changes thus saving time and adding clarity).

💡 Personalization is the key to build relationships in today's saturated market. 

Finding ways to stand out and connect on a more human level can make all the difference.

Kondo passed 500k ARR last month 📈

What has and has not changed since launch a year ago:

1. Early on, you had to do a 1:1 onboarding call to get access. I've done 1000s. It's still an option, but most self-serve. Don't do free trials anymore, so that leaves 10-15 calls / week with folks serious about our product.

2. Back then, we tracked activation by booking a follow-up call with users 1 month after signup. With ~100 weekly signups and ~1,500 customers, that's no longer realistic. So we've beefed up a lot on ANALYTICS and I now obsess over numbers like every proper PLG founder should (was slow to learn this 🫣)

3.  First 50 users came from outbound. Next 100 inbound from word of mouth. The next 1000 the same way. That's GREAT, but also a PROBLEM. We've tested a bunch of outbound and paid channels over the past few months, but still haven't cracked a scalable growth engine yet. Fingers crossed.

4. We grew our headcount from 2 → 3 by hiring Anastasia as our first employee. One of two best decisions I will ever make in life. Also brought on Gaurav as an advisor. Two of two. 

5. Still no plans to sell away chunks of the company to VCs. Not running a 🦄farm here. Trying to grow fast but profitably has been a great lesson because every $ we spend on something could be $ in our personal bank accounts (!!) so it better get us $ back fast (!!!). 

6. A year ago I would actively hunt for posts saying "LinkedIn's inbox is SOOO BAD HOW DOES ANYONE FIND ANYTHING IN IT." I don't do that anymore because folks now tag me on posts like that (thank you, friends 🙇‍♂️) so I just see where I'm tagged and run to the post and holler "Yo, I fixed it → trykondo.com" 

7. LinkedIn can still build a Kondo overnight with <10% of the resources they spent on Zip or Mini Sudoku but still has not. So, I am still here helooo 👋

8. Every time I read other startup founders' posts that start with "we hit 10m ARR in 3 months" I still feel sad because I realize I'm missing a few zeros : (  

Any advice for me for the road ahead?

2⃣ Pre-Date Research: 
Just like in real dating, do your homework. Look at their profile, their posts, what they’re talking about. Find common ground.

3⃣ Value-First Conversations: 
Instead of pitching, focus on genuine conversation. Ask questions. Listen more than you talk.

4⃣ Offer Support (No strings attached): 
Find a way to help them, even in a small way, without expecting anything in return. This builds immense goodwill. ✅

5⃣ Build Rapport Over Time: 
Real connections aren't built in a single interaction. Nurture the relationship. Stay top-of-mind by continuing to provide value.

By treating business development like old-fashioned dating – with patience, genuine interest, and a focus on building trust – we were able to bring in clients. 

It’s about connection, not just conversion. 🚀

The fastest way to achieve any monumental goal is to find a pack or a group that's already doing what you want to achieve. 

This goes for B2B services as well as SaaS products. 

Although my main business is creating sales and relationship systems for B2Bs and service based professionals (coaches, consultants, sales etc...), when I founded Skoop - Instant Video, trying to scale that solo feels like hand-to-hand combat. 

Although our SaaS is a tool for our main consulting business - it is in fact an entirely different business modle in itself.  As selling low cost software tools you need volume. 

😅 My SaaS product, SKOOP, and it is still in the early days. The one-on-one onboarding calls is absolutely crushing me (although I still do that as it can lead to partnerships). But it is just meeting after meeting (for now), diving into the nitty-gritty details.

At $47 a month, some people would question the cost. But I'd always flip it back to them: "How much is one client worth to you?" Especially when our tool can boost conversion rates about six times better. That's the kind of ROI that makes even a small monthly fee disappear. 💥

The fastest way I've discovered to hit those monumental goals? 

Again, find a pack, a group that's already doing what you want to achieve. 

This was a massive lesson for me. By connecting with other small yet growing SaaS products for integration (I had what they were missing mentality) and resellers partners those right people understood out journey. 

Working in this way allows us to see the direct path forward for SKOOP. It wasn't about reinventing the wheel, but about learning from those who had already mastered the road. 🚀

This is why I'm so passionate about sharing actionable strategies and insights. We're always looking for ways to maximize conversion and streamline growth. It's about the  smarter, not just harder working route (when possible).

Creating a 1-page portfolio design and why it is so important for your business. 

Recently, we have updated our 1-Page PDF. Feel free to download it if you like it.

And we used some older artwork of projects and a few screen captures of current ones, then a simple Canva design template. 

The update took 45 minutes. The original may be 2 hours total-ish 💁🏻‍♂️

A 1-Pager has several advantages. 

✅ Tells an entire story on a single page. 
✅ Easy to understand in a short amount of time.
✅ Visually impressive.
✅ Separates you from your competition (more memorable)
✅ Portable as it can be emailed, text to a phone (would convert to a PNG), sent by link, like a file on a Google Drive, and of course, looks gorgeous as a printed piece.

Before SKOOP, we dove into some seriously cool projects. 

2️⃣ Remember ISO Interactive? That was our gamification website before the rebrand. We're currently working with The Troy Agency and have tackled specific client projects for high-end coaches and consultants, too.

3️⃣ We've had the chance to work with big names like Coca-Cola, Candy Sports (Xbox Mobile), Skittles, and about 15 different virtual worlds. It's been incredibly fun building everything from websites and designs to full-scale applications and sales systems. 🚀
