👋 Allow me to (re)introduce our Global Comms team. 2026 will be another year of rapid change, but we've built a structure and setup that's ready for it.

Last summer, as our audience mindshare continued to spread across an ever-broader, ever-faster-changing set of media, we shifted GetYourGuide's brand strategy from buying to building.

The pace and frequency of our comms had to follow suit, but our setup was blocking us. Our KPIs pre-dated the AI era, and we'd organized ourselves around a fairly strict B2B/B2C* and geo-specific structure.

(*I believe this distinction is almost always imaginary, but the silos it creates are real: duplicate work, inconsistent quality, endless alignment friction. If this wall is still up where you work, I have a hammer for you.)

So we redesigned from the ground up around shared strategic priorities—our Pillars:

🎙️ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 & 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮: The always-on engine that spins our story flywheel. Catherine Treyz and Benjy P. run our messaging house, content strategy, editorial/newsroom ops, and spokesperson program.

🧱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺: When you're a category leader, operational excellence is a must. Clare Sayas owns our data disclosures, issues management, team ops (PR & AEO analytics, media relationship management), company policies & trainings.

🏛️ 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆: Our remit extends beyond awareness; we advocate for our company and our category. Jim Bastings applies comms tools to our policy agenda, crafts messaging and proxy networks, and owns our reputation-building with institutional audiences.

Benefits of this setup:

1) Effectiveness. When you know what you own, you have agency to do what needs to be done, and to stop what isn't working.

2) Teamwork. When you know what your teammates need from your role (and vice versa), running winning plays together becomes the norm.

3.) Foresight. On my team, we have a saying: "𝘞𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘯." Time (and timing) requires leverage, and it's what defines our success, because winning with big margins > buzzer-beaters.

We've had this setup in place for a few months now. As with any change, it hasn't been a magic wand. We've had to put in work to get the wheels turning, and speak up when things break or get stuck. 

But I can feel the wind at our backs now on our Comms Island. (Cringe ceramic work is my own, our office decor needed a 2026 refresh too.)
