→ Hope you don’t get hung up on
→ Force fake small talk about the weather
→ Ask 1–2 weak softball questions
→ Get grilled for free advice
→ Vomit answers to feel smart
→ Then cave in and put all the vomit in writing
→ Log it in as a “lead” (when it's really a "lie")
→ Call
→ Chase
→ Chase more
→ Borderline stalk
→ Convince yourself it’s “relationship building”
→ Hope
 → Pray
 →Repeat

That’s how good humans start to hate selling.

It drains your dignity. 

It trains prospects to see you as a vending machine.

Here’s the (un)Selling path instead:

👉 Connect only with people who are highly likely to have the pain you solve

👉 Drop an illumination hook that joins a secret conversation going on in their head so clearly they flinch a little

👉 Tease a hypothesis of how you solved that problem for people like them and then poke the bear a little

👉 Make it clear that this isn't for everyone -  invite them to say 'no' - and declare you might say 'no' also. 

👉 If the pain is real and the stakes are high enough, then continue

👉 Decide next step: Nurture, Continue, or Run like hell. 

No chasing. No weirdness. 

Doing less, Getting more.

Repeat with your next group of 40. 
Then your next. 
Then one more.

Now review your data. 

Run this play every quarter. 

You’ll reach about 400 people per year. 
At a 3% close rate you’ll land 12 new clients. 

So what is a client worth to you?

5 hires
£12k per hire 
50% fill rate

Thats £30k per year. 

12 clients worth £30k each = £360k

So why you’re team aren't hitting target? 

I'll tell you...It’s one of three things

1. Not doing the numbers
2. Not hitting the right people
3. Not saying the right stuff. 


And with 76% of recruiters saying they have no clear plan for BD, it's clear most recruitment team are under-perfoming.

This may be my least business focused post of the year. 

My son has been through some roller-coaster emotions this term at school. 

He works so hard and puts a lot of pressure on himself - well a lot for a seven year old at least.  

It's hard to know what's normal as your eldest child grows up but this has felt tough. 

Hearing him this week, come home from school, doing Christmas crafts, playing with his sister, and generally being calm and happy is just the best feeling. 

The tears and fights seem to be behind us (for now) and it's made such a huge impact for all of the family. 

Feeling really blessed.

EARN £100k IN YOUR FIRST YEAR IN RECRUITMENT”

It’s BS.

The way most recruiters approach bd if you do make it you’re very, very lucky. 

But there is an approach that sets you up to make £100k in year 2 without leaving too much to chance. 

It’s not easy - most won’t make it. But there is a plan. 

The best news is it compounds. 

To make £100k you need to bill £360k. 

That’s £90k in 90 days. 

Or one client worth £30k per month

To do that you usually need to contact 100 people per month And contact them 6+ times. That’s 30 attempts per day (emails, calls, dms). 

Could be fewer, depends how good you are. 

Now if youre consistent, and do your daily activity of 30 touches per day every day for a year, you’ll get pretty good. 

So long as you stay at it… you’ll be set for year two. 

But you have to have a plan. 

So heading in to another tough year, do you have a plan to finally break the six figure earnings mark.

Delivery won’t win 2026. Direction will.

Until mid‑2021, recruitment was a delivery game. The best sourcer won. Your candidate was your calling card. 

That changed.

In 2026, if your edge is “we can find candidates,” you’ll be working in Talent Acquistion by next Christmas. 

Meanwhile, most clients still hire like it’s 2019. 

But they’re waking up.

And right now they want a recruiter who can help them correct course, not just send CVs. You can still pull deals by peddling resumes, but you won’t win quality clients. 

Dream clients want direction, and they pay for it.
