With multiple design and engineering awards, including the James Dyson Award, Philips Innovation Award, Robotdalen Innovation Award and Sprout’s 25 under 25, Julian passionately believes in the ability of robotics to help humans live happier and healthier lives. Binder was founded during the honours course 'Personal Leadership' at the University of Technology Delft with the mission to help every student to have his or her literature at hand disregarding the financial situation.

This way people who don't use their books can earn some money and help co students. Whereas students who are looking for their literature can now get acces to their books in a cheap way.

Hoeveel hebben we er vandaag verkocht? Maar...

Eerlijk, de cijfers liegen niet, maar de magie verdwijnt. Want elke bestelling is bij ons een bijzonder verhaal, iemand die haastig op zoek is naar meer rust, ontspanning en beter slapen. Als je dan een pallet ziet met de producten die er dagelijks uitgaan, besef je pas wat voor impact je maakt en wordt het écht tastbaar. Belangrijk om te doen. 

Dat realiseerde ik me vandaag bij het bezoek aan onze productiefaciliteit in Nederland  in Bleyswijk, waar Somnox op duurzame wijze in elkaar wordt gezet en met liefde wordt ingepakt voor een nieuwe klant. Komt een mooie behind the scenes aan! 

Wat mij betreft mogen we met veel meer trots laten zien dat we gemaakt zijn in Nederland. Dat kunnen weinig merken zeggen.. Ja je betaald meer voor de kostprijs, maar de kwaliteit, duurzaamheid en iteratie-snelheid is onmeetbaar.

Maar *(heel) eerlijk. Dit is nog maar het begin. Het doel is om miljoenen mensen te helpen aan meer rust in een wereld vol chaos en prikkels. En die missie hebben nog we laaaaaaaaaaaang niet gehaald.  Werk aan de winkel!

Today we’re excited to introduce a small but powerful update to the Somnox app: you can now connect and manage multiple Somnox breathing companions from a single account.

We’re seeing more and more households with several Somnox devices at home; for example, a Somnox Bear for the kids and a calm color variant for Mom. With this update, every device can be easily managed in one place, with personalized breathing profiles, sound settings, and status insights for each family member.

This also opens the door to an important use case in professional care environments. Many clinics, sleep coaches, and care institutions work with multiple Somnox devices side by side. With multi-device management, everything can now be configured, monitored, and adjusted centrally from one app, making both deployment and daily workflows much easier.

A small update with a big impact for families, caregivers, and professionals alike.

Can we reduce anxiety through… a cuddly robot?

New research from the University of Amsterdam shows that breathing is a much more powerful emotional signal than we think.

Researchers had participants hold a soft, ‘breathing’ robot while watching a scary movie. The robot either did not breathe, breathed calmly, or breathed quickly and anxiously.

Striking outcome: when the robot breathed anxiously, participants’ heart rates increased significantly. People even described the robot as ‘afraid’.

Breathing alone influences our physiology – even when it comes from a machine.

What does this mean?

Calming technology that offers a soothing breathing rhythm could potentially help people regulate stress and anxiety.

As the founder of Somnox, I find this particularly relevant. We work every day on technology that uses breathing and touch to help people regain calm. This research underscores how fundamental that approach is, also for reducing acute anxiety – provided it offers a slow, calm rhythm.
