One of my favorite holiday traditions? Grocery shopping for Thanksgiving with my mom and sister. 

It might sound simple, but it’s become such a special part of our year. We turn a routine trip into a little fun, catching up on life, reminiscing about past holidays, and joking around in the aisles. 

There’s something about those moments together that really grounds me, a reminder of what the season is all about. 

This year, H-E-B sold these adorable Santa hats, and suddenly, the grocery store felt more festive than ever. 

What’s interesting is how H-E-B used branding here, without even putting a logo on the hat. The hat itself captures the spirit of H-E-B and Christmas all in one. Anyone who buys the hat, takes a photo in their store, and posts it on social media is promoting the H-E-B brand naturally, without even realizing it. 

When we saw them on the shelf, we put our hats on right away and couldn’t stop smiling and giggling. It was like a little reminder that the holidays are about joy, connection, and having fun with the people we love. We also got a lot of smiles and compliments from other shoppers who asked where they could find the cute hats! 🤠

So, whether it’s shopping with family, decorating your home, or just taking a moment to breathe and enjoy the season, I hope everyone finds time to cherish those small, meaningful moments.

The scent of Mission burritos tangled with gentrification.

This city holds it all

𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦?

I’ve offered aloha with a smile to strangers, waving them into my lane like it was nothing.

I’ve also cursed at the guy who cut me off two seconds later.
I’ve poured kindness into people I barely know.

I’ve brought silence home.
After giving my best to work.
When my family needed my words most.

𝘐’𝘮 𝘣𝘰𝘵𝘩. 
𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘺.

Maybe broken and beautiful aren’t opposites.
Maybe they belong together.

Maybe comedians have it right.
We need to laugh more

Sometimes the only way past the walls we build…

is through the crack of a joke.

Maybe self-interest isn’t just selfish.
Maybe it’s bound up with everyone else’s…

woven through its crooked streets 

This city is a mirror.
It shows fragments.
Never the whole truth.

Here’s the lesson:

This city has always been one of reinvention…

Most folks forget that about the 1993 flick.

They think it’s about time loops and alarm clocks.

But it’s not about the clock
it’s about 𝙬𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙪𝙥.

Every morning, Bill Murray opens his eyes to the same cold day in Punxsutawney.

Same song. 
Same faces. 
Same stale buffet.

At first, he fights it.
Tries to manipulate it.
Tries to win.

But the loop doesn’t break when he wins.

𝘐𝘵 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴.

Not into someone flashier or more successful.

But into someone present.
Someone who listens.

Someone who serves 
without keeping score.

Someone who learns how to love, not just others, but life itself.

That truth sits a little closer these days.

I’ve been thinking about how we build something lasting on LinkedIn,

It’s easy to get caught in the loop.

steady hands,

and a hunger to understand what’s in front of you.

From building relationships the long way, 
not for leverage, 
but 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚,

and for the people you’re becoming in the process.

For the joy of learning who someone really is
beneath the titles,
the routines,
the highlight reels.

Because people aren’t bullet points.
They’re stories.
Textures.
Contradictions.

A whole landscape you only see if you slow down long enough to look.

Not just what they do,
but what they’ve carried.

Not just where they are,
but where they’ve walked.

Not just their success,
but the little things that shaped them.

This is the part we forget:
Relationships aren’t built by strategy.

By the willingness to notice.

This Thanksgiving, I wanted to tell you a story about partnership, 

the kind that doesn’t make headlines

Steven lives on Pawleys Island, South Carolina, by way of London.

When I was a kid, every day after school came with a dilemma.

Walk straight home, 
up three steep hills, textbooks 
weighing down my backpack like a cruel oversized ruck sack… 

or head the opposite way, a mile down, toward the comic book store.

And if I went there, it meant one thing…

Empty the wallet. 
Maybe grab a few singles.
Definitely read more than I could afford.

Then hike back uphill with a heavier bag, physically and emotionally.

But it was worth it.
Because in those pages, I met him.

Matt Murdock.

Before the Ben Affleck movie (which we’ve agreed never happened).

Catholic guilt,

Fighting in courtrooms and alleyways alike.

What hooked me wasn’t the superpowers.
It was the contradiction.

The daily wrestling match between justice and mercy. 

Strength and sorrow.
Order and chaos.

His greatest weakness, 𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, became his strength.

But for all his heightened senses, 
he was still blind to the war within. 

The torment.
The belief systems that chained him.
The inner noise louder than any criminal he faced.

Today, I’m not rocking red leather or leaping off rooftops. 

But I do work with lawyers.

And that internal tension?
Still very real.
