Almost three years ago, the ground shifted.

Storm. Fire. Flood.

Home was gone,
not metaphorically,
𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺.

When everything familiar disappears, survival stops being theoretical.

You do not chase vision.
𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.

That was the moment I planted something small in damaged soil.

Picture a beanstalk.
Not the fairytale kind.

The kind you climb 
with no ladder, 
no safety net, 
no applause.

Just bark on your hands and gravity reminding you what is at stake.

Here is the part people skip.

The climb is not about the door at the top.
It is about what each step pulls out of you.

Patience 
you did not know you had.

Faith 
that only shows up when certainty leaves.

Discipline 
to say, “𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘨, 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺.”

What most people do not know is this.
The business did not start as an idea.
𝘐𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥.

I needed help navigating uncertainty 
while protecting what little stability remained.

Structure when everything else felt fluid.

Someone to walk alongside growth while life was still burning.

That revealed something simple.

If I needed this to survive and grow, other business owners did too.

The crisis did not pause the work.

This March marks nearly three years since we lost our home.

Now we are about a month away from stepping back inside.

And that is not the miracle.

The miracle was choosing to climb when the math did not work.

When the timeline made no sense.
When hope felt thin but necessary.

We rebuilt walls, yes.
But the deeper work lived between exhaustion and trust.

Between fear and obedience.
Between planting and waiting.

The beanstalk was never magic.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴.

That lesson shows up everywhere.
In families rebuilding after loss.

In founders staring at numbers that refuse to cooperate.

In anyone climbing something heavy in silence.

Growth rarely looks impressive while it’s happening.
𝘐𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘧𝘶𝘭.

Maybe broken and becoming are not opposites.
Maybe they belong together.

And maybe the real win is not getting back what we lost,
but becoming someone who knows how to climb when it happens again.

Walked away from LinkedIn this past week. 

𝘐 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵.

Not because I ran out of things to say. 
The words are there, lined up and ready.

But writing is simple.
True engagement costs something.

If I post, I want to read my friends.
Sit with their ideas.
Leave real comments, not drive by likes.

That takes real energy
and eventually, you have to ask the harder questions about how you are spending it.

When does consistency become compulsion, 
discipline turn into distraction, 
showing up slip into simple consumption?

At some point, the honest questions have to be asked.
How much is too much, 
how much is too little, 
and when does what once served us begin asking more than it gives?

I watched a post peak for a moment, then disappear into the feed. 

A couple likes. 
Then silence. 
I felt nothing. 

𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘐 𝘬𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭.

What became clear to me was that even offline, life stayed connected.

More conversations happened face-to-face, 
some walking city blocks, 
sharing meals. 

Others came through Zoom screens or long phone calls
and many of those people, clients, partners, friends, were first met on LinkedIn.

The medium changed, but the substance did not. We talked about real things, business, family, faith. 

No algorithms. 
No notifications. 

Just people showing up for one another.
It was a reminder that the platform is never the point. 

The people always are.

𝙎𝙤 𝙄’𝙢 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙. 

The rules don’t apply to me any different. 
But I’ve learned this, I follow my own rules.

Not quitting.
Not retreating.
Just stepping back enough
to see clearly again.

Choosing to tend to the parts of life that do not require logging in.

Even Jesus stepped away from the crowds to pray. Luke 5:16 (NIV). 
Not because the work was finished, but because the soul needed tending.

Here’s the lesson I’m holding onto.

Health is not just physical. 
It’s mental. 
It’s spiritual. 
It’s knowing when to push and when to rest. 

𝘕𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘩𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶.

Your work deserves your best, not your left overs. 
Your people deserve your attention, not your exhaustion 
and no platform gets to decide your pace.

Sometimes the most faithful move is to pause, breathe, and return when you‘re steady. 

Grounded.

One in color.  
Bright, playful, loud in its own way.

The other in black-and-white. 
The same scene, simplified, different temperature.

Same Robin.
Same expression.
Same ridiculous pool of yellow balls.

And yet… the story changes depending on the frame.

That’s the thing about people:
we make assumptions fast.

We fill in the blanks 
with our own history, 
our own wounds, 
our own filters.

Some folks look at the color shot and see joy.

Others look at the grayscale and wonders what I haven’t said out loud.

But neither version tells the whole truth.

That’s exactly what I see every time a business owner walks through our (virtual) door.

They hand us a snapshot of their finances

a report, 
a balance, 
a mess, 
a mystery box of receipts
and think that single frame is the whole story.

𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦.

What’s on the surface never tells you what’s underneath.

Behind every clean ledger or chaotic spreadsheet,
there’s a human being carrying something:

fear, no hope, burnout, courage, survival, a dream they haven’t spoken in years.
