RHODE’s email copy is better than 90% of beauty brands 👇 ☀️ 

A lot of now clients came to me saying the same thing

“Our old agency was fine… but they never really got our brand voice.”

Brand identity is important.

And if you want that cool, modern, editorial energy RHODE nails so well, here’s what they actually do right.

1) They know exactly who they’re writing to.

RHODE doesn’t write “for women.”

They write for a very specific kind of woman:

Understated.
Confident.
Modern.
Slightly cool-girl.
Not try-hard.
Aspirational  

Most brands are way too vague here and the copy shows it.... it's just DULL AI copy. 

RHODE is aspirational (beautiful people, perfect light, aesthetic life) but also relatable. 

That balance is a huge part of why it resonates with 18–40 women.

2) They practice real editorial restraint.

No over-explaining and no corny, AI-sounding fluff and onvious sentence structures. 

Restraint is what makes them feel premium.

Most brands are scared of this and try to “fill space.”

3) They align copy + visuals perfectly (this is underrated)

RHODE’s copy never feels like it was written in isolation from the imagery.

If the image is

beach → the copy feels beachy
glossy lips → the copy feels glossy
golden light → the copy sounds warm

Most brands rely on Chat GPT to heavily and have a disconnect

editorial image + generic copy
or strong copy + weak visuals

RHODE makes them feel like the same creative mind made both.

The best copy feels like an extension of the photo. 

4) They have a consistent micro-lexicon (their own “house language”)

This is their is a clear repeating vocabulary.

Across emails you’ll see words/ideas that quietly recur, like:

“glaze”
“flush”
“barrier”
“golden hour”
“everyday”
“fresh”
“sun-kissed”
“your routine”

They’re intentionally building a brand language over time.

6)  Their product names do heavy lifting and this is often overlooked.

Barrier Butter
Peptide Lip Treatment
Fresh Beach Flush
Lemontini by the Sea
These are already editorial.

That means the copy doesn’t have to work as hard, the product itself feels poetic.

6) One clear theme per email.

After-sun care.
Beach glow.
Summer edit.
Fresh flush.

Most brands try to say too much. Choose a theme and stick to it. 

The reality is...... you can’t speedrun taste.

Care deeply about the brand and the audience and that’s where the magic comes from 🛸

I love the clean, editorial approach to this sock brand.

Here’s a design lesson that took me years to really understand.

The best eCom emails use short sentences.

And lots of white space.

Some of the very best brands barely use two sentences in a paragraph.

Sentence.
Space.
Sentence.
Space.

It feels easier on the eye.

And it appeals to the lazy part of the human brain.

If your email looks like a chore to read… people will bail.

When you get this right, you don’t just improve design, you get clearer copy and better engagement.

Great emails are closer to a visual picture book than an essay.

Strong visuals.
Complimentary  copy.

eCom email copywriting tip for multi-million pound brands 📧💰

Principle One:

Make the customer the subject of the email.

Most brands write like this:

“We designed this product.”
 “Our material is premium.”
 “Our team worked hard on this.”

That’s brand-centric. And it doesn’t convert.

Great email copy is customer-centric.

The simplest shift that changes everything?

✅  Use the word you more.

When you write in the second person, something subtle happens...

The reader feels seen and the email feels personal.

It changes the psychology of the email.

People don’t care about your brand first.

They care about themselves.

So stop talking about what you made.

Start talking about what it does for them.

If your email doesn’t make the customer the main character, you’re leaving money on the table.

One of the biggest mistakes I see in eCom email marketing?

Treating every brand like it runs on the same engine.

They don’t.

From experience there are fundamentally three types of e-commerce businesses, and each needs a completely different email + lifecycle approach:

1️⃣ Acquisition-Led / High Consideration Brands

Examples for this category would be luxury jewellery, premium electronics, big-ticket items, sporting equipment etc.. 

 Here, education > urgency.
 Assumptions > hard sells.

 Multiple touch-points pre-purchase build trust and are required before conversion. Longer welcome flows work well here. 

2️⃣ Retention-Leverage Brands (the “in-between” category)

Fashion, accessories, lifestyle.

Replenishment isn’t built into the product but profitability is unlocked through great email systems here. 

Increase first time conversions pre-purchase 
Cross-sells.
Upsells.
Returning customer rate.
Campaign cadence + post-purchase experience decide whether these brands win or just coast.

3️⃣ Replenishment Businesses

 Skincare. Supplements. Consumables.

 Post-purchase for these brands should NOT be just “thanks for your order.”

 It’s actually more of a customer onboarding.

 Education. Habit formation. Timed reminders. Lifecycle placement.

Subscription logic baked into flows from day one.

This is where most brands get it completely wrong.

If you’ve ever looked at “guru flow templates” and thought, “why doesn’t this make sense for my brand?”

This is probably why.

The system has to match the business model.

Familiarity will be the strongest growth lever in retention marketing for brands in 2026.

There’s a concept in cognitive psychology called processing fluency.

The easier something is to mentally process, the more trustworthy, valuable, and credible it feels.

When something is easy to recognise and decode, the brain releases micro-dopamine simply for the speed of understanding.

That’s why the brands that feel premium and memorable often aren’t using fad tactics, they’re more predictable.

Same tone.
Same structure.
Same content patterns.

Your audience open predictably when their brain goes:

“Oh - I know what this is.”

That’s brand conditioning.

Most brands are doing the opposite where every email is a new experiment.

Every campaign has a different format and every week feels like a brand reset.

So the audience never forms a mental shortcut.

And without shortcuts, there is cognitive friction.

Without friction removal, retention and engagement dies slowly.

This is why I am SOOOO hot and see a big pattern in recurring features.

Not random campaigns recognisable segments your audience can anticipate.

This is what creates memory structures around your brand.

Some examples I’m seeing work extremely well right now:

• Health & Wellbeing Wednesdays - weekly authority anchors
 • Same's Collection Edits 
 • “Bioactive 101” by Amra – education that becomes a brand asset
 • Monthly founder interviews
 • Recurring customer stories
 • Fixed-format product breakdowns

These become incrediby strong brand impresions that occupy valuable mental real estate.

Once your audience knows the format, the open becomes more automatic and engagement with your brand and products increases consistently. 

2026 is about building content your audience can recognise in the first frame.

That’s how retention compounds.

But the problem is most people over complicate it. 

Heading into 2026, it’s clear the marketing landscape is shifting fast. 

AI is changing how people discover content, privacy rules are tightening, and the usual channels like email, social, and push are more crowded than ever.

SMS matches how people communicate now. 

Especially younger audiences who prefer quick, authentic, and relevant messages.

Here’s what high-performing SMS actually looks like now:

• Drops, restocks, SMS exclusive offers, last-minute updates
 • Light cadence - a welcome text, with offer, then only when it matters
 • Quiet hours baked in (nobody should hear from your brand at midnight)
 • Schedule by local time
 • Always include STOP and HELP trust compounds revenue
 • Stop blasting everyone the same message. Segment based on what they looked at or signed up for.
 • Use Names 
 • Create FOMO 

SMS works when it feels like a human message at the exact moment someone is already paying attention.

This should be apart of a broader more holistic email strategy, but it has high ROI when used tactically.
