Yesterday, I spoke about finding my #Ikigai at a #WomensDay event. 
Most people still treat it like a diagram to solve. 
Here's what I've actually lived.

1) 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐚 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐧: 
It's that thing you do where: 
– You forget to check your phone. 
– Time dissolves. 
– You feel a small sense of joy, even when nobody's praising.

You keep coming back to do it because that state of flow feels like 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦.

2) 𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐝. 
Small. Private. Almost invisible. 
The more you honour it, the more it grows. 
One day it stops being 'something you enjoy' and becomes a tree that serves others.

3) 𝐈𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞. 
Building Codewave with Abhijith taught me this. The right partner. The right team. What once felt like 'passion' becomes shared purpose and suddenly the venn makes sense.

That's the thing about #Ikigai. You don't find it by just filling in a framework.

11 years ago, I was a PS3 addict, a coder, a guitarist - 'comfortably numb' with no regrets. This was the ‘calm’ before the storm—a moment that changed my life forever.

I woke up from the ‘Groundhog's Day’ of my daily job, refusing to be treated like a ‘cog in a machine’, dreaming to break free and do creative work.

2013 was a time when ‘mobility’ was on the rise, the digital space saw a revolution—mobile apps and responsive websites. Designers and Techies united like never before, appreciating the need for collaboration - to create delightful digital experiences. 

Bangalore was emerging to be a ‘Startup’ hub, where it became more fashionable to have a failed startup than climbing the corporate ladder.

My partner Vidhya & I co-founded Codewave - we envisioned an Org that runs like a ‘social network’, thriving with autonomy, authenticity, and creativity. We dumped traditional ‘JDs’ and made every job a ‘Product thinking’ job. 

We wanted everyone to ‘Start with Why’ and do intentional, purpose-led work.

We launched #ImpactIndex — Codewave’s outcome-based billing framework.

A memory from early in my career.

I was working at a travel corporate. Once during a hackathon, about 10 engineering teams built apps in 72 hours.

Some were incredibly sophisticated.
Complex architectures.
Impressive tech.

But none of them won.

What won was:

A simple CO₂ calculator that politely nudged customers to pay to offset emissions.

I was shocked. Couldn’t fathom why.

I assumed the most impressive tech was going to win.

Years later, it made sense.

Impact beats effort.
(And technology can sometimes be just a formula.)

The market doesn’t reward complexity.
It rewards change. 
What changes for the business, customers, and teams.
