Friday confession:
I miss my daughter.

She’s off at college, out there living her best life… while I’m at home doing very normal, very sane things like:

• pausing mid-sentence because I 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘳 I heard her laugh in the hallway
• scrolling through old photos like I’m an unpaid archivist for The Museum of Our Family
• buying her favorite snacks “just in case she stops by” (she lives 300 miles away, but sure, Viveca)
  
They say absence makes the heart grow fonder.
And yes. Absolutely.

But can we also acknowledge it makes the brain grow…slightly unhinged? (Just me?!)
Because the missing is weirdly specific.

I don’t just miss “my daughter.”
I miss:

• the random drive-by commentary from the other room (“That’s a choice.”)
• the kitchen pop-ins that start with “I’m starving” and end with me losing half my lunch
• the way she can roast me with one sentence and somehow still be adorable doing it
• the noise. The mess. The 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.
  
Now the house is calmer. Peaceful. Mature.
And honestly…suspicious.

Like…why is it so quiet? Who approved this? Where’s the background sass?

Here’s the part no one tells you:
Missing your kid isn’t only sad.

It’s also kind of hilarious - because you start realizing how much of the joy was in the tiny, ordinary stuff you didn’t think you’d miss.

So yes - my heart is fonder.
But my fridge is also fuller (for no reason).
And my phone storage is at 2% because apparently I’ve decided to become the CEO of “Rewatching My Own Parenting Highlights.”

Thursday night. Good food. Loud restaurant. One friend I hadn’t seen in over a year.
 
You know the kind of dinner where the first 10 minutes are catch-up logistics…
And then suddenly the real question lands.
 
“So,” she said, leaning in,  “what are you actually focused on now, in 2026?”
 
Not 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮.  Not 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳.  Not the tidy version.
 
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙤𝙣𝙚.
 
I laughed, because yes, like most humans with a calendar and a pulse, I’ve done a little navel-gazing lately. Looking back. Looking ahead. Trying to name the thing beneath the thing.
 
And here’s what surprised me:
 
The answer wasn’t LinkedIn.
 
LinkedIn is the channel. The vehicle. 🚗 The microphone. 🎤
 
What I actually do is quieter - and bigger.
 
I help people make sense of their story. 
➛ Your unique message. 
➛ Your positioning. 
➛ Your authority.
 
The 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 version finally matching the 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 version everyone already trusts, refers, and wants in the room.
 
My sweet spot?  Digging into what sets you apart when you’ve been too close to see it.
 
The career twists. The lived experience. The judgment calls you’ve made a hundred times that others still struggle with. The thing you assume is “obvious” because it’s 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴.
 
I’ve spent a decade building tools, asking better questions, and having thousands of conversations to surface that.  Then position it - clearly, honestly, and without the cringe.
 
So I told her, simply:
 
“I discover, resurface, and position who you are, what you do, and why you do it.”
 
Because when people have choices - and they always do - they choose professionals they trust and connect with. And, I hope, make them laugh (or at least smile) - another content pillar of mine! 
 
And here’s the part I didn’t expect to say out loud, but felt true as soon as I did:
 
This year, I want more real life. 
More rooms. 
More stages, of any size. 
More conversations that don’t start with a profile view.
 
Still strategy. Still clarity. Still visibility.
 
Just with more eye contact.

Years ago, l I felt extremely stressed running errands on the local highway. Pressed for time, I'd sweat in panic: Can I make it back in time for school pickup? Is my waiting child crying? I desperately needed a way to plan my route more efficiently, to feel in control of time. This anxiety led my creation of the very first highway directory.

I’ll never forget… that it was immediately clear that I wasn’t the only one that was seeking a handy aid for their outings. That first guide prompted more HandyGuide requests for many highways and towns.

And before you knew it… I was commissioned to re-image all types of collateral; all with the objective: to make experiences easier for visitors. To make even the most complex information easy to digest. Today these info guides have been appreciated by hundreds of thousands of people.

A flashback memory . . .
I'll never forget the day my sons came to me, while they were in high school and thanked me for having a business (HandyGuide).  Maybe you'll agree, that's it's really rare for a teenager to offer thanks to a parent! You see they explained that they liked I had something to focus on other than their daily lives :)

Of course to them it went unnoticed that I also wore these hats:

• Supply coordinator on home renovations; this led to the HandyGuide launch
• Family experience travel coordinator for several trips to the EU
• Mama bear years to Antony Orsini (Senior Product Engineer) and Richard Orsini (Senior Industrial Designer)

I am super proud and very secure in the knowledge that my sons have extra strong problem solving skills as well as multiple capabilities to thrive in today's ever faster evolving world.

As Product Manager I recall the astonishment when I borrowed a Macintosh for a weekend in 1986. That's before there were laptops peps! I had a vision and was determined to demonstrate that a pricing catalog could be typeset in-house on a digital word processor. Back then it used to cost gobs plus take weeks by an outside vendor to paste paper lines of copy onto a huge board as a pre-press layout printing step. Of course the labor fee to making a change to the copy was huge and catalogs didn't change much from year to year either.  My action saved a large expense and changed the company's catalog production method going forward.

My start at that post college job was as a bench researcher in the biomedical lab. I will always remember that I had to end a popular, yet fruitless, product enhancement inquiry. I took weeks for me to recognize, accept and communicate the flawed hypothesis in my assigned holy grail experiment.

The universe was teaching me a lesson in acting as fast as possible, when a path is a dead end. Have had to learn this one over and over as it is an essential business (and life) skill.

It's important to mention that the Apple OS on the original MAC was welcoming; laid out clearly with the logical program drop down menus.  Grateful to Steve for his vision of a personal computer and his execution to bringing his product collaborations to the masses. Also grateful to have learned NOT to fear tech.
