I started as a LinkedIn ghostwriter for a CEO.

Three months later, I was running their entire digital marketing operation.

Here's what happened:

The CEO hired me to write LinkedIn posts. Simple job.

I delivered PURE GOLD. They performed well. Engagement went up. Everyone was happy.

But I noticed something.

Their blog hadn't been updated for a while. Their email list was sitting there collecting dust. Their website copy was barely converting.

I could have kept quiet. Just collected my cut and stayed in my lane.

Instead, I sent a message:

"Hey, I noticed a few things that might be holding back your growth. Can we jump on a quick call?"

That video call changed everything.

I walked them through what I saw. The gaps. The missed opportunities. The revenue they were leaving on the table.

Here's the strategy I've used over and over since then:

Your first project is a lead magnet, not the end goal.

Some people think: Get hired. Do the work. Wait for the next project.

I think: Get hired. Do the work. Find the next problem. Solve it.

Always be looking for what else is broken.

When you're inside a client's business, you see things they don't. Blind spots. Inefficiencies. Untapped potential.

Point them out. Some clients have no idea these problems exist.

Video calls close deals.

I can't count how many times I've gotten on a call to "discuss ideas" and walked away with expanded scope and more ka-ching.

Why? Because when you show genuine interest in their success and can articulate solutions clearly, they want to work with you more.

Don't just stay in your lane.

If you're good at one thing, you can probably learn adjacent skills fast. For this client, I started with LinkedIn. Added blog writing. Then email marketing. Then SEO. Then full digital strategy.

Each skill opened the door to the next upsell.

Deliver value first, then expand.

I never pitch upsells before proving I can deliver on what they hired me for. Once they trust you with the small thing, they'll trust you with the big thing.

Today, most of my highest-paying clients started with a single small project.

The ones who only wanted that one thing? They stayed small clients.

The ones who let me keep solving problems? They became my biggest revenue sources.

Your initial project is JUST your entry point. Go for bigger things. Never forget that.

Employee: I'm resigning. I accepted an offer elsewhere.

Manager: Wait. How much are they offering?

Manager: Don't leave. We'll match it. We value you.

Employee: Really? Okay, I'll stay.

Manager: Great! Crisis averted.

Here's what just happened: they were paying $5,800. The budget was always there.

Management celebrates. HR marks it as a "retention win." Problem solved.

Except it's not.

The employee stays. But something changed.

They know the truth now. The company had the money all along. They just didn't think they needed to pay it until forced.

Trust? Shattered. Loyalty? You're joking, right?

Over a decade ago, I discovered freelance writing and made a choice: share it with everyone.

I trained thousands of writers. Watched them go from broke to making $400+ per week. Celebrated their wins. Answered their questions at all hours.

But on October 31, 2023, I retired both my courses.

Some people asked why I'd walk away from something successful.

Here's the truth:

For 10+ years, training freelance writers was incredibly fulfilling. I helped people escape poverty, land dream clients, and build real careers.

The success stories still mean everything to me.

But AI changed the game.

When ChatGPT launched, I watched things shift. Writers who once needed courses could now ask AI to train them, assess their work, and give feedback, all for free.

YouTube exploded with tutorials. Blog posts multiplied. Information became abundant.

I realized: My courses weren't the only path anymore. They weren't even the necessary path.

Plus my career path was headed more towards digital marketing instead of just freelance writing.

Here's what I learned from that transition:

Sometimes the market tells you when it's time to move on

The need I filled for 10 years? AI and free resources filled it better. Fighting that reality would have been ego, not strategy.

The income I got from courses? It was nothing compared to other things I was doing.

Your skills compound in ways you don't expect

Everything I learned training writers, understanding client psychology, building systems, creating processes, directly applies to the digital marketing I do now at Contact.

Closing one door opens a bigger one

Today, I'm driving 7-figure revenues for clients through SEO and digital marketing. The impact is bigger. The scale is greater. The challenge keeps me growing.

Timing matters more than nostalgia

I could have kept running the courses while the market shifted. I could have refused bigger opportunities out there.

Instead, I went all-in on where the opportunity actually was.

Sometimes the smartest move is walking away while you're ahead.

Want to get promoted fast?

Stop waiting to be asked.

The people who rise quickly don't just do their job well.

They make their manager's life easier.

They solve problems before they become fires.

They don't wait for permission.

Here's what actually gets you noticed:

→ Communicate your impact clearly (not just what you did, but what changed because of it)

→ Build relationships across teams (your network is your net worth inside a company)

→ Make your work visible to the right people (if leadership doesn't see it, it didn't happen)

→ Take initiative on high-visibility projects (volunteer for the hard stuff everyone else avoids)

The pattern is simple:

See the problem → Fix the problem → Show the impact

See the gap → Fill the gap → Document the win

See the opportunity → Seize it → Make it count

Being quietly competent at your assigned tasks won't cut it.

You need to be loudly valuable on work that matters.

You need to deliver consistently on things people care about.

You need to make yourself impossible to ignore.

The fastest promotions don't go to the best workers.

They go to the most visible solvers.

The most reliable deliverers.

The easiest to promote.

Make your manager look good.

Make their job easier.

Make the choice obvious.

"I don't know how to do content marketing"

Start seeing it as a game and start from level 1.

To-do lists create stress. Game levels create excitement.

When you reframe your content marketing project as a 9-level game, you'll become addicted to levelling up.

Here's my content marketing game structure:

Level 1:
Foundation Audit - Review existing content, identify gaps, analyse what's working, document brand voice.

Level 2:
Audience Mapping - Define ICPs, create buyer personas, map pain points, document buying journey stages.

Level 3:
Content Strategy - Build topic clusters, plan content pillars, set publishing frequency, choose formats.

Level 4:
Distribution Planning - List owned channels, identify partner opportunities, research syndication platforms, plan promotion schedule.

Level 5:
Content Creation - Start with repurposing, batch produce new pieces, build content templates, establish workflows.

Level 6:
Amplification - Share across channels, engage in comments, build email list, activate employees as amplifiers.

Level 7:
Lead Capture - Add CTAs to content, create gated assets, build landing pages, optimise conversion paths.

Level 8:
Analytics Setup - Track engagement metrics, measure conversions, attribute revenue, identify top performers.

Level 9:
Optimisation Loop - Refresh underperformers, double down on winners, test new formats, refine messaging.

Completed all levels? Start again from level 1.

The content marketing game never ends.

Before you believe the noise, look back a little.

Every few years, the same panic spreads:
