I'll never forget the dream job I thought I had locked down. And then ghosted. 


Four rounds of interviews. Met with the hiring manager twice. Presented to the team. 

Even had a final conversation with the VP where he said, "We're really excited about bringing you on board. You'll hear from us this week."

Four weeks later, No call. No email. Not even a generic rejection.

I followed up once. Then twice. Then realized I was chasing people who clearly didn't respect my time enough to send a two-sentence email.

Here's what made it worse: I'd turned down other interviews because I thought this was a done deal.

That experience taught me something I'll never forget: How a company treats you during the hiring process is exactly how they'll treat you as an employee.

And companies wonder why they can't attract top talent.

Here's the reality: Every person you ghost tells 10 other people about the experience.

If you're hiring: Send the email. Even if it's a template. Even if it's bad news.

Candidates deserve basic human decency, not radio silence.

And if you're job searching: Remember that ghosting tells you everything you need to know about that company.

The most inspiring story I've been part of this year wasn't about a 25-year-old founder.


It was about Margaret, my client who started her coaching business at 68.

After spending 40 years as a nurse, raising three kids, and surviving a divorce that wiped out her savings, she came to me ready to build something of her own.

No business degree, No email list, No idea how to start a Substack or sell coaching.

Just decades of experience helping people and a refusal to let age define what she could build.

We started from scratch. Built her Substack and then launched her pilot coaching program. Figured it out step by step.

Today? She's at 1,000+ subscribers and her coaching program is slowing booking out. She's making more than she ever did as a nurse doing work that finally feels like hers.

But you won't see Margaret on any "30 Under 30" list. You won't read her story in business magazines celebrating "young disruptors."

Because we're obsessed with early success. With people who "made it" by 25. With the idea that if you haven't figured it out by 40, you've somehow missed your window.

But some of the best work happens after 50. After 60. After life has given you the wisdom that only comes from actually living.

The 55-year-old who finally published their book after years of rejection.

The 62-year-old who started a business after being laid off and told they were "too senior."

The 70-year-old still learning, still growing, still proving that ambition doesn't retire.

Those are the stories we should be celebrating.

Age isn't a deadline. It's just more experience to build from.

I've watched too many people torture themselves staying in places that are slowly wearing them down.

Their mental health is suffering, confidence is shot, skills are stagnating.

All because someone convinced them that leaving "looks bad" or that they need to "stick it out."

Here's what actually happens when you stay too long in a toxic place:

I've had clients stay in toxic jobs for three, four, five years because they were scared of what leaving would look like on their resume.

And sometimes growth means knowing when to leave.

Stop sacrificing your mental health to avoid an awkward conversation in an interview.

Staying in the wrong place doesn't make you loyal. It makes you unavailable for the opportunities you actually deserve.

Six years in the same role. Zero promotions. Zero growth opportunities.


Jessica had been at the same company for six years.

Same role. Same salary range. Same empty promises about "future opportunities."

She was good at her job. Actually, she was great at it. But there was nowhere to go.

What’s changed in outbound in 2026?

The environment.

Messier data.
Faster role changes.
Imperfect domains.

Most teams are trying to force old structures into new conditions.

Activity has spiked.

Someone else’s progress doesn’t diminish our own.

Most of the useful signal is hidden in plain sight.

We naturally lock onto the guy moving down the escalator.
But the real decision maker is a few steps below him, blending in.

Once we notice it, we see it everywhere.

In complex, engineering-led sales, the same pattern shows up.

Teams default to the most visible role.
The title that feels safe to sell to.
The person who looks like they’re in charge.

That’s how role and title drift starts.

Instead, we anchored to JTBD and one year of clear win and loss data. We stayed disciplined about who we were actually building demand around, even when the tools made it easy to broaden the audience.

That’s why we work from Total Relevant Market (TRM), not TAM.

TAM answers who you could sell to if time and money were unlimited.
Very few companies live in that world.

TRM is about who you can realistically sell to right now, under real constraints, with real buying behavior. It forces tradeoffs. It makes priorities explicit.

Our stack isn’t exotic.
Maildoso, Clay, HubSpot, Instantly.ai, Make.

The difference isn’t the tools.
It’s how the system decides who gets attention and who doesn’t.

That only works if the system is strict about data ingestion and even stricter about signal interpretation as volume increases.

When your grandparents use Sora to create content,
nothing about signal volume feels surprising anymore.

We are swimming in signals.
Enough that they slow movement.
And trust in them is waning.

Watch how the hummingbird flies.
First, it steadies itself.

Stability enables precision.

Most GTM systems do the opposite.

More has to happen now
for the same outcome to occur.

Signals refresh constantly.
Outreach never really stops.
Decision time elongates.

Not because we’re not smart.
Because system complexity has outpaced judgment.

Teams add activity to compensate.
Longer sequences.
Deeper scoring.
Longer review cycles.

Not to go faster.
To feel safer.

Then it shows up on the buyer side.

Buyers are not overwhelmed.
They’re defensive.

As complexity rises, the cost of being wrong goes up.
So they add constraints.
They slow decisions.

Both sides arrive at the same point.
More motion.
Less conviction.

Confident teams do something different.

They simplify system inputs.
They remove what no longer matters.
Judgment lives at the point of decision.

When we try something new,
we usually talk about the upside.

The quiet feeling in the pit of our stomachs when we realize it’s all on us.
If this goes south, no one is coming to save us.

What I’ve noticed is that this moment shows up right before work actually changes.

Especially in GTM, when the meeting is over and we wonder if everyone shares the same problem definition.

Some teams respond by tightening their control.
More check-ins. More escalation paths. More presence, just in case.

What works better is deciding earlier.

The teams that solve and adapt name the boundaries before they’re apparent.
They’re explicit about where intervention helps and where it only adds friction.
You can recognize it later by what doesn’t happen.
Decisions don’t keep reopening.
Deals don’t wait for the right person to jump in.
And the Notion doc closes the feedback loop, instead of reopening it next week.

Leadership feels easier in those systems.
Nothing is technically broken. It just doesn’t work the way it used to.

The opposite usually looks busy.
Busy. Inefficient. A lot of effort covering ground that should have been firm earlier.

That isn’t control.
It’s what latency looks like once everything else speeds up.

In the last 60 days, something shifted inside GTM teams.

They became faster.
Not smarter.
Or more reliable.

The hand-offs became tighter.
But decision quality stayed flat.

The gap isn’t AI model quality.

It shows up when sequence is learned mid-execution instead of at release.
When teams scale a GTM motion before they agree on sequence.
When speed appears before anyone owns the outcome.

Across engineering-led scaleups, the pattern is consistent:
Tech amplifies the existing structure.
If the system is coherent, output improves.

Treating AI as the strategy.

Outbound usually works fine.
Until it doesn’t behave consistently. 

When that happens, it’s hard to catch.

Deals slow down.
Replies thin out.
No alert tells you why.

It's almost always infrastructure.

It’s the entry that changed.

From 2023 to the end of 2025, here’s what moved.

→ Total venture dollars stayed high while global deal count fell to one of the lowest levels of the decade (Crunchbase, Q4 2025)

→ A larger share of capital flowed into fewer, larger rounds, with late-stage and AI-heavy deals pulling up averages (PitchBook–NVCA, Q4 2025)

→ Working products and demos became baseline expectations, with differentiation moving to traction, positioning, and durability (HBR, Q4 2025)

The water is less forgiving.

Sometimes our stomachs tighten

Remember “AI won’t take your job”?

What they’re not saying:
AI isn’t infrastructure.
It’s labor.

When we use AI to write outbound, qualify pipeline, or respond to customers, it’s not sitting under the work.

Every time we integrate AI into a workflow, we’re encoding how work gets done.

Adrenaline peaks
when we stand up.

That moment feels like relief.
We’re in motion now.
But that’s also when optionality wanes.

It’s true for launches, hires, pricing, and autonomous systems.

Before we stand up, time is cheap.
Changes are reversible.
If it’s not this wave, it’s another one.

After we commit, we live it.
Small adjustments turn into workarounds.
Cleanup replaces clarity.

This is where GTM teams lose time.
Not because we moved fast.
Because we entered before uncertainty was understood.

Later, it shows up as surprise.
“Why did this take so long?”
“It felt close when we started.”

I wasn’t asking for excellence.
I wanted him to take the trash out.

He did something unexpected.
And completely missed the point.

I laughed at first.
Then it stuck with me.
Because I have watched the same thing happen inside GTM teams.

A decision came out at the end of the Zoom.
No one pushed back.
Or asked for clarification.

Someone said, “We’re good.”
A few heads nodded.

Time ran out.
Leadership made the call.

The meeting ended. 
We all went back to our day.
That’s when interpretation split.

By the next morning, work was already underway.

Product shifted priorities mid-sprint.
Marketing rewrote messaging late, trying to give shape to an idea they hadn’t fully named yet.
Sales answered questions with careful phrasing.
RevOps adjusted fields so nothing broke outright.

Nothing stopped.
Everyone was doing what made sense from where they sat.

The gap between decisions and execution shrunk.

A week later, in the standup, it was obvious the pieces didn’t line up.

Nothing was broken.
It just didn’t add up.

The meeting was expensive.
Everyone still walked away with a different meaning.

When did it stop feeling like we were behind
and start feeling like we were being watched?

Most of us aren’t overwhelmed by work.
We hesitate to decide before the week takes over.

We feel the unrelenting surge of the current before our day begins.
The moment we open our laptops on Monday morning.

This isn’t because we’re behind.

It’s because the pace changed.
