One of the worst pieces of advice I keep seeing on LinkedIn is: Follow the big accounts and learn from them.

I also tried it in the beginning, and honestly… it was terrible advice.

Here’s why:

Creators with lakhs of followers will get likes, comments, and visibility on almost anything they post. They’re playing a completely different game.

But you?
You’re new.
You don’t have that kind of reach yet.

If you copy what they’re doing, your posts won’t get the same traction, not because you’re bad at content, but because the strategy doesn’t match your size.

What helped me more was following creators with similar follower counts who were getting genuine engagement.
Creators who were growing steadily.
Creators who understood the stage I was in.

That’s where the real learning happens.

Big accounts show you what success looks like.
Small and mid-sized accounts show you what success requires.

I learned that the hard way.

For the longest time, I avoided talking about a phase of my life because I thought it made me look inexperienced and “not ready.”

Everyone on LinkedIn talks about wins, growth, and success, so I assumed admitting my failures would make people take me less seriously.

But when I finally shared it, something unexpected happened, people related to it more than anything else I’d posted.

I talked about the phase where nothing was working. Where I was showing up, trying hard, and still hitting a wall. And being honest about that taught me something important:

- People connect with the part you’re hiding, not the highlight reel.
- Your struggles make your wins believable.
- Your doubts make your growth relatable.
- Your vulnerability makes your journey feel real.

We think being vulnerable weakens us. But the right story, told honestly, does the exact opposite.

One of the most irritating LinkedIn trends I’ve seen is people commenting under their own posts.

Before you judge me, let me explain why.

I’ve noticed a lot of creators leaving multiple comments on their own posts.
Some add value, fair enough.
But many do it just for the sake of doing it.

And some overdo it so badly that if you want to read genuine comments from other people, you can’t.

You end up scrolling past 10+ comments from the creator themselves just to find one real conversation.
By the time you get there, you’re already annoyed.

I don’t know if it actually helps engagement, but it definitely makes the experience worse for everyone else.
Thankfully, this trend seems to be slowing down now.

So here’s my question:

Total time? 30 minutes. No, it won’t make you go viral. But in 6 months, you’ll be hard to ignore. Stop assuming people who win online are smarter. They’re just louder, faster, and unbothered.

After all, it’s not about being the best. It’s about being there.
