Is a Weather SaaSpocalypse in the forecast?

The big AI companies are clearly going to market sector by sector, starting with the $30billion financial information market. Factset, MSCI, Moodys, my old shop LSEG, all acknowledging it is better to partner than be disrupted. Could the AI guys have built their own financial info business, yes, but it would take a long time and they recognize there are unique data sets & expertise that these guys can bring to the table. They will also bring their existing clients!

We will see the same in weather?  I think so. Not as a standalone sector, but integrated within client verticals. I was disappointed no weather data sets are in the initial Claude for Financial Services partner program.  No doubt we will see Claude for Energy, Claude for Ag, Claude for Govt. etc… in due course, all of which should have weather data sets. The cloud data marketplaces of the last decade will get squeezed by these emerging GTM ecosystems.

Pre built connectors will enable ease of discovery, ease of analysing alongside secure in house private data, ease of value discovery, ease of onboarding .....

Could the AI guys build their own ensemble weather models with a small team of meteorologists, maybe, but that is not their business model. They want to get across all industries asap and get as much usage as possible. (Alphabet may be the exception)

Forecast accuracy will likely get more scrutiny as a result of these models, but sources of weather differentiation and value will increasingly come from (real time) weather derived impact data, particularly where moats can be created within an industry.
