At Alphabet Lease (part of BMW Group), a leasing company, my role involved developing modular components for a complex system and leading several frontend projects. As a Chapter Lead I spearheaded technical innovation within our eco-system. This included conducting Angular upgrades and enhancing the codebase for better performance. The frontend team, comprising 10 members, was responsible for overseeing and managing 20 separate Angular projects, each an individual application.

I also contributed to the refactoring of a key application, transitioning it to a monorepo structure with Nx to improve maintainability and scalability.

To facilitate the exchange of patient data among countries, the European Union collaborates with member states on an international infrastructure known as eHealth Digital Services & Infrastructure (eHDSI). The Netherlands is integrating into this system of national contact points with its own national contact point called the National Contact Point for eHealth (NCPeH). Through the NCPeH, healthcare professionals can digitally retrieve patient summaries from patients in EU countries requiring unplanned care in the Netherlands.

Working while being a student

During my studies, to gain practical experience, I wanted to work. I faced the challenge that no company was willing to hire me part-time. Driven by resilience and determination, I didn't let this stop me. Instead, I chose to start my own freelancing 'company' as a way to gain that experience. I've worked on a variety of projects, ranging from small websites for local artists to large-scale applications like a planning system for a major transportation company. This experience has given me a versatile skill set, making me broadly deployable in various IT roles.

The tech stack I've used includes: WordPress, PHP, Laravel, JavaScript, AngularJS, Angular, React, HTML/CSS, and React Native.

I post too. Some people mock me for it. Fine. I see results, so I keep doing it, but *in my own voice*

Those fake-authentic posts stitched together by the famous ChatGPT emdash you wouldn’t be able to find on your own keyboard, probably do more harm than good. 

If a post could have been written by anyone, it will be remembered by no one.

Replacing hope with conviction for Enterprise GTM

I’m joining Rembrandt as co-founder and CRO.

Since my Bluebird exit I made four angel investments. Rembrandt was one of them. Vincent is a long-term friend and I’ve always been convinced he’ll succeed. He could have asked me to invest in a subscription service for gluten-free ice cubes and I probably would have said yes.

But he took it further.

After spending more time with the team last year, Vincent and Bob secretly planned a trip to Bali. I had no clue. Suddenly they were sitting at my favourite table at my favourite restaurant.

The moment I saw their smiling faces, I knew what was happening.
I also knew what my answer would be.

They thought I needed convincing. Little did they know, I was ready to get back into the arena and build.

Saying yes was easy for two reasons.

First: Rembrandt fixes the thing that quietly kills enterprise quarters: wrong bets made 6 to 12 months earlier.

You run the wrong play, into the wrong buying unit, at the wrong time. Once that becomes obvious, you can’t win that quarter back.

That’s why DIY Claude setups, AI SDRs and generic black-box ‘intent’ are mostly useless for serious enterprise GTM. They don’t solve the hard part in complex enterprise motions: judgment across use cases, stakeholders, timing, and plays.

Rembrandt is built for that gap. It continuously turns the external reality around your target accounts into decision-grade conviction, and tells you (i) where the next opportunity is forming (even before it’s in your pipeline), and (ii) which play to run to turn it into a winnable deal.

Second, and more important: saying yes was easy because of the people.

In the good times, everyone’s around. The real test is who shows up when things get ugly. Vincent and Bob are those people. I want to build with them.

It’s going to be hard work. It will get messy. Plans will change.

Good. Hard is the point.

Retirement is boring.

I used to think ‘freedom’ meant the absence of work.

Then I sold my business, moved to a sunny island, slept without an alarm, and learned how quickly freedom without purpose turns into a feeling of emptiness. Rest is good, but unstructured freedom, week after week, quietly eats away at you.

Last year I had a few calls with people I used to work with. Smart people in great jobs. They told me how “nice” my situation was. The grass is always greener. They had a hard problem, a team, and a reason to get up and win the day.

People warned me this would happen but I didn’t listen. Such a cliché now that I think of it.

I won’t go full Dr. Phil on you, but I will say this: work matters. 
Not the busywork but the real kind.

It gives shape to days and allows you to build things that last. It gives you purpose, and when chosen wisely, genuine satisfaction.

Last year I remember sitting on the beach, doing nothing, reading Cal Newport’s Deep Work, and feeling one line land hard:

“Human beings are at their best when immersed deeply in something challenging.”

It was a mirror. And I knew what I’d been missing. 
I actually missed the game.

I missed the thrill of a deal.
I missed chasing a win.
I even missed the feeling of having to work hard to prevent a loss.

But more than that, I missed doing it with the right people. The kind of team where you look at each other after a crazy week and think: this is worth it. 

The most profound thing I learned last year is this: 

You do not work your whole life to retire, you work to build a life you do not need to escape from.

So yes. I’m unretiring.
