I thought wildfires only happened in California and Australia.

I was wrong.

New research from Imperial College London just coined a terrifying new term:

"Firewaves"

Multiple urban wildfires erupting simultaneously in UK cities.

Here's what shocked me most:

→ After just 10 dry days, city vegetation becomes critically flammable 
→ July 2022: London Fire Brigade had its busiest day since WWII 
→ One fire alone destroyed 37 buildings, evacuated 88 homes 
→ The risk has DOUBLED in the past decade

But here's the thing...

This isn't about remote forests burning.

This is about parks next to your house. 
Green spaces beside schools. 
Heath land adjacent to residential areas.

When multiple fires ignite at once, emergency services get overwhelmed.

The solution?

Fire services are already adapting:

-> Drone surveillance for real-time mapping
-> Off-road vehicles creating firebreaks
-> Predictive modeling for high-risk periods

Professor Guillermo Rein's warning hit hard:

"Northern European cities don't have institutional experience dealing with wildfires. Climate change is making vegetation that was never flammable extremely combustible."

The reality check:

Urban wildfire risk isn't coming.

It's here.

Now.

Cities need to rethink emergency planning, infrastructure design, and climate resilience strategies.

Because the next heatwave might bring more than just uncomfortable temperatures.

Be honest…
Do you secretly dread feedback?

I used to.
Last week, at a workshop led by Ruth Visick-Evans from Moringa Leadership, I heard a phrase that completely changed how I view criticism: “Feedback is a gift.”

We kicked things off with a simple question:
“How do you feel when someone gives you feedback?”

My first reaction?
Uh-oh. Here comes the list of everything I did wrong. The way I spoke, the deadline I missed, the KPIs I fell short on...
Sound familiar?

But what if we turned that narrative around?
What if feedback wasn’t about picking apart weaknesses, but about highlighting strengths and unlocking growth?

Instead of saying,
“Hey, I have some feedback for you - here’s what you did wrong,”
What if we said,
“Hey, I have some feedback for you - here’s what you did well… and here’s what you could do differently?”

Suddenly, it feels encouraging. Forward-looking. I’m not just bracing for criticism, I’m ready to learn.

Ruth also taught us something simple but powerful about receiving feedback:
Don’t just accept it and walk away worrying.
Thank the person for the feedback.
Ask questions to really understand, like:
“Thank you for sharing that. Can you help me understand which part of my approach missed the mark?”

One more tip:
Avoid words like “but” and “however.”
They’re tiny words, but they change the whole energy of the conversation. They signal contradiction, sometimes even defensiveness. The goal is to keep things open and constructive.

Here’s what I’m taking away:
💚 Feedback isn’t a test; it’s a gift.
💚 Frame it positively - highlight strengths, offer suggestions.
💚 When you receive feedback, thank them and seek clarity.
💚 Leave out “but” and “however” - invite growth, not defensiveness.

So next time feedback comes your way, will you treat it like criticism - or unwrap it as a gift?
