PhD student in the Scientific Computing Research Unit in the department of Chemistry at UCT. Using programmable graphical processing units (GPU) and the CUDA toolkits (cuda-fortran) to accelerate electronics structure calculations. 

Developed GPU code to accelerate some of the routines used in performing Density Functional Theory calculations in packages such as GAMESS-UK.

Tutored for the Chemistry, Physics and Maths departments respectively. 
Assisted 1st year Chemistry students with their laboratory work in 2014.
Tutored introductory physics for 1st year medical students in 2015 and 2016. My work consisted in assisting them during the labs and tutorials sessions.
Marking labs books at the end of each session.
Tutored MAM 1000W (first year calculus) and MAM 2085/2083F a second-year course on multivariate calculus, jacobians and multiple integrals.

Rhodes University, department of Physics and Electronics

Assisted Prof Makaiko Chithambo of Rhodes University with his research on the luminescence of solids. 
Preparing samples for measurements, taking optically stimulated and thermoluminescence measurements. 
Assisted with the statistical analysis of the experimental data.

Research Assistant

Completed my graduate research in experimental solid-state physics under the supervision of Prof Chithambo. 
Studied the luminescence properties of natural quartz using a combination of optically, thermally stimulated and radioluminescence techniques.

Tutored for the Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics departments respectively. 
Tutored a 1st year introductory course for computer science students in 2010. My role consisted in assisting students with their practical’s (Basic excel, Computational thinking and Python programming).

This project, under the supervision of Prof Francesco Petruccione, was my introduction to the world of quantum computing. Learned about qubits and basic quantum encryption algorithms.

My area of expertise includes crafting algorithms and making use of machine learning to mine and make sense of data, and then using data visualization to present said data to decision makers. 

My formal training equipped me to work at the intersection of physical and computational sciences. Bridging the gap between maths, physics, computing and the humanities. I am naturally interested in Data Science, AI, Physics and Maths. However, I have grown also to appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of things. I am also passionate about Philosophy and the use of language for conveying emotion and finding meanings.
