Zoronto was my first attempt at starting up.

While I was in college, I faced the issues of finding accommodation quickly and easily. There was no internet-enabled review based platform that could list out all the available places for accommodation.

I used my tech skills and created an online portal that could be used by accommodation seekers to search for verified places to stay.

I, along with my brother, worked on the business for over a year before calling it quits. We were faced with issues such as low adoption of the internet, cash flow inconsistency, and lack of funding.

I worked on product development, marketing, and sales.

Zoronto, was an excellent learning experience and a deep dive into what takes to build and scale a startup.

Yes, I failed, but the lessons learned were immensely powerful.

You will lose the tracking information Klaviyo collected while you used it.

That’s why we do this 👇

One of our strategies for e-commerce DTC brands is to coax users into the repurchase or first-time purchase funnel.

And the best way to do this is by showing them a good deal.

So, we show them the easy-on-the-wallet products.

And it becomes a no-brainer for them to click for more information.

The more low price products we show, the more interested users are in exploring more.

This email is a good example.

Here’s what we did:

▸ We added affordable top-selling categories
▸ Added price under products to influence quick decisions
▸ Used GIFs on main banners to show a variety of products at a glance

What are your thoughts on the strategy and the design?

I hate to break it here.

You don't have an "owned audience."


Irrespective of your definition of "owned audience," it essentially boils down to controlling the audience - the data, messaging, and the channel.

Let me break it down one by one for you in hopes of busting this age-old lie.

🔸 Data
The information the audience has provided is actually not given for eternity.

It is most of the time rented.

Yes, your audience can ask for their data to be removed from your systems.

And you have to comply with it.


🔸 Messaging
The message you craft has to pass through the gates of the tech overlords.

They may decide not to show the message to the audience or even block the sender from sending messages.

There goes your control over messaging.

🔸 Channel
Just like messaging, the tech overlords also control the channels you want to use to send the messages.

You have to play according to their rules.

Divert, and you are kicked off the playground. 

There is nothing like an owned channel, audience, or marketing.

It is essential to understand that whatever is given or available to you has an expiration date and many rules.

Use them with utmost respect and care.
