As a People & Culture Manager at Flybits, a fast-growing fintech company based in Toronto, I lead the team responsible for aligning HR strategies with the organization's vision. Collaborating closely with the leadership team, I identify the people implications for business units across Canada, USA, Brazil, UK, UAE, Netherlands, and Singapore, supporting a workforce of 70+ employees.

My role involved creating and overseeing various people programs like total rewards, diversity, equity & inclusion, employee engagement, and performance, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. I am also proficient in providing employee relations support and empowering employee and manager growth through leadership coaching and comprehensive learning and development programs. In addition, I work with senior leadership to align coaching and training efforts with the overall strategic goals of the organization, ensuring a harmonious integration of talent development with business objectives.

MaRS Discovery District

As the owner of People Operations at MaRS, largest Non-for-profit incubator in North America, I oversaw a wide range of HR functions in the employee life cycle including talent attraction, on-boarding, engagement, performance, total rewards (compensation & benefits), payroll and off-boarding. I ensured compliance with relevant legislation and collaborated on policy development for health & safety, DEI, AODA, COVID and remote/hybrid work. 

My role involved supporting 250+ employees across 4 sub entities a key role in fostering a positive work culture and driving organizational growth through effective people management strategies. I developed and maintained the P&C metrics dashboard and worked with business unit leaders to support their teams on various HR related issues.

Due to the onset of the global pandemic, my role started out as a short-term contract. Within a month, I received a double promotion and was offered a full time position.

Maropost

As the People and Culture Manager at Maropost, an email marketing SaaS company, I served as a strategic business partner, executing HR practices aligned with the organization's strategy and overseeing all HR-related functions. I facilitated end-to-end employee experience globally across India, USA, and Canada, ensuring alignment with the company's values.

My role involved spearheading various people programs, including total rewards (compensation & benefits), talent acquisition, performance management, organizational structure and learning & development. Additionally, I ensure compliance with legal requirements by facilitating company-wide training sessions, developing the employee handbook, and providing expert advice on legislation and compliance matters.

Uber

As an Asia Pacific HR administrator for Uber, a silicon valley based ride sharing app, I collaborated with HRBPs, senior leaders, recruiters, and stakeholders globally to implement process improvements and HR initiatives, enhancing overall efficiency and effectiveness in HR operations. I prepared comprehensive reports on HR metrics, providing valuable insights to management for data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.

My role involved supported a large workforce of 5000+ employees across 23 countries by proficiently managing onboarding, offboarding, and reporting processes, while providing prompt and comprehensive responses to global employee help center tickets, adhering to a 24-hour service level agreement. Additionally, I spearheaded HR Operations training by supervising a team of 15 HR Support employees in Manila, leading to a positive and inclusive work environment through proactive support and guidance, promoting employee engagement and retention.

While studying full-time with a goal to become an HR professional after graduation, I tried to take up part-time opportunities with relevant transferable skills. As a teaching assistant, I played a crucial role in supporting professors and students in creating a positive and effective learning environment. I assisted with classroom management, supervision, providing feedback and grading all assignments. 

Transferable Skills to an HR Role:

- Empathy and People Skills: I worked closely with students from diverse backgrounds, showing empathy and adaptability in understanding their individual needs. This equipped me to handle employee relations, conflict resolution, and creating a supportive work environment.

- Organization Skills: I managed multiple tasks, from assisting in classroom to office hours to grading assignments which had critical deadlines. This organizational ability translated well into HR, as HR professionals wear multiple hats while handling people programs and operations.

- Problem-solving Skills: I encountered challenges while helping students with different learning styles and needs. This helped me develop problem-solving skills, which are valuable in HR for addressing employee concerns, handling workplace issues, and designing effective solutions.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant

While studying full-time with a goal to become an HR professional after graduation, I tried to take up part-time opportunities with relevant transferable skills. As a Learning & Technology Assistant, I played a vital role in supporting students in the library by managing the front desk, providing assistance with inclusive technology tools, organizing library supplies, and offer resources to aid individuals in their academic pursuits.

Transferable Skills to an HR Role:

- Technology: I demonstrated strong tech proficiency while assisting students with using inclusive technology tools like Dragon Naturally Speaking, Read & Write, Jaws, MS Magnifier, etc.,. In HR, technology plays a crucial role in managing HRIS, applicant tracking systems, and other HR software.

- Resourcefulness: I provided students with library resources to aid in their academic journey showcases resourcefulness in seeking and offering solutions. In HR, being resourceful is valuable in talent acquisition, compliance, training, and employee development initiatives.

- Customer Service: While managing the front desk, I frequently interacted with students to provide support and assistance. This customer service experience translates well to an HR role, where HR professionals service employees and are usually the first point of contact for any questions or concerns.

Learning and Technology Assistant

Immersive Media

As an HR intern for Digital Domain (formerly im360), a media company producing VR content based in Los Angeles, I was highly motivated to learn and grow within the HR field, with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional support to employees and contributing to the overall success of the HR team and organization. With this internship, I had hands-on experience in supporting the HR functions for a diverse workforce of 200+ employees across British Columbia and California. I demonstrated ability to assist with various HR tasks, including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, HR systems, employee engagement initiatives, and HR policy compliance.

My role involved actively engaging in employee relations matters, providing support and guidance to employees on HR-related queries, fostering a positive work environment, and building strong employee-employer relationships. In addition, I collaborated closely with the finance team to process payroll, ensuring accurate and timely payments for employees, while building a strong partnership and fostering cross-functional understanding between HR and finance departments.

While studying full-time with a goal to become an HR professional after graduation, I tried to take up part-time opportunities with relevant transferable skills. As a resident advisor, I was responsible for fostering a positive living and learning environment for students within a university residence hall. I provided support, mentorship, and guidance to residents, organized community-building activities, and addressed any issues or concerns that arise. During my second year, I mentored and trained new Resident Advisors, acted as a resource and fostered team learning and growth. 

Transferable Skills to an HR Role:

Conflict Resolution: I mediated conflicts and helped residents navigate interpersonal issues, honing my conflict resolution abilities. This assisted me with handling employee disputes and promoting a harmonious work environment.

Leadership and Mentoring: As a resident advisor, I was a leader and mentor on campus which involved  guiding and supporting students throughout their university experience. This leadership quality translates well to HR, where leading teams, mentoring employees, and driving initiatives are essential to an organization's success.

Empathy & Active Listening: While acting as a resource to students, I demonstrated active listening and empathy to create a supportive environment for helping students overcome personal and academic challenges. These are critical traits for HR professionals while for understanding employee needs, addressing grievances, and maintaining a healthy work environment.

Time Management: While working a highly demanding job as a resident advisor, I was also maintaining my high academic standing as a dean's list and scholarship student and received excellent performance reviews.
