ACE Funding 

I co-founded ACE Funding with Richard Evans and Lord David Evans as a growing number of clients were asking about getting their business funded. I was also curious to find out more about this world.

My role was to build investor relations and run funding events. It was here that I discovered the importance of being pitch-ready. Preparing clients who were pitching for funding was a key part of the process.

Through several events and much investor feedback I developed a keen sense of what was needed for a funding pitch/proposal to stand out from the pack. This led to me working with several interesting projects looking for funding and conversations with many investors.

For this reason I have stayed open to working with projects that do good for people and the planet, working as a pitch coach/strategic advisor for several projects since.

Mid-Life Crisis

You can't teach it if you don't know it. I thought I was having a meltdown with my own mental health. So I left my job, my home and my life to get my shit together and work out what was really important to me. This involved a lot of soul-searching, learning and travel.

I did a lot of writing, reflecting and connecting during this time. I also got myself into some very interesting and sometimes dangerous situations. My current books, courses and skillset were all birthed during this period of my life. 

It was an adventure of a lifetime which I came out of a lot happier, with a more global perspective of life and an enhanced appreciation of being alive!

I wrote my books during this period: The Lunatic Gene, and How to Deal With Your Self-Destruct Button. 

I believe that we live in a lunatic asylum and once you realise this, along with owning your own brand of lunacy, you can more easily laugh at yourself, have more fun and appreciate the lunacy of life.

I returned from Asia and joined a specialist nursing agency for a year. This was simply a reminder of why I left the health service in the first place.

After taking a career break following my Neuro-Linguistic Programming Training, which facilitated my own personal breakthrough, I knew I had to completely change my life. I found myself writing whilst travelling in Thailand with a friend. When he decided to open a bar/restaurant on Koh Samui and asked me to work with him, I decided to give it a go. The book went on hold, though a more interesting tale would be derived from my experience of business in Thailand. To say I was unprepared was a somewhat understatement.

Adjusting to a different country, language and work ethic was one of the most challenging periods of my life, and also led to a personal experience of angina! This only made me more determined to prioritise my own health and wellbeing. I resigned the day after experiencing angina and it stopped.

Operating within such an incredibly different set of cultural beliefs and values was one of the most eye-opening periods of my life. Business in Koh Samui is not for the faint-hearted. I was also there when the tsunami hit. Luckily, I wasn't on the other side of the peninsular or I would have been in a lot of trouble. 

It did, however, significantly increase my resilience, and expedite my first experience of a 10-day silent meditation retreat that New Year's Eve. That was painful, challenging and insightful in equal measure!

I ended up in nursing by accident. I had never considered it as a profession until I was handed an application.

Retrospectively, it gave me the resillience, people skills and insight as to what's really important in life.  One thing is for sure: most physical illness is a direct result of mental illness and the signs and symptoms start years before most people end up in hospital.

Working with those facing death gave me a very good insight into what truly matters in life and the ability to identify the early warning signs and symptoms of many life-altering illnesses.
