Consultants now live in the big deal making era. Thought leadership, relationships and risk management are the future. Better get good at selling then! Why are you reading this? You’re a partner or director, most likely in a big B2B consultancy. You’ve also seen what lies ahead. After reading my content you thought, ‘wow, I need someone who rants about selling!’ That’s good, ‘cos I only work with motivated, coachable, and jolly nice people. It gives me a warm glow when I see you win. Mindset, deal selection and strategy are what I coach. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. A coach tells you home truths as well as stroking your ego. I deal in facts not could, would or should. The King’s plain English is better than corporate speak, tongue in cheek humour and political incorrectness better than being beige. I don’t ‘do’ micro-management or admin. Despite being told by teachers I’d never amount to much, flunking exams and being dumped by my first girlfriend I’ve done some stuff since. Still heartbroken BTW! I paid for my MBA at IMD in Switzerland (get me, fancy, eh?). It’s one of the world’s best business schools. Harvard and Stanford were kind enough to help me as well. My mother can’t quite believe I met a Prime Minister at Downing Street, nor other ministers, Lords and CEOs or Top Gear’s Hamster on a plane from Vienna. Or do DIY or ironing. T-shirts and scars come from personally winning $3B of deals. The biggest was $1B and nearly killed me! Fuzzy feelings come from coaching others to $12B of wins and counting. This poacher became a gamekeeper for a while, running $300m business units – delivering and operating. That makes you think about what you’re selling a little more. Undertaker, builder, and kitchen fitter – proper jobs my mates have. They can’t figure out what I do. We won loads of hockey matches and still ski together. Ask my kids how often I repeat the same stories. Name an 80s hit and I’ll sing it, but I walk into rooms and forget why. All that means that your considerable investment in me gives great returns and you’ll be entertained along the way!
