Worked with the early team to launch the first version of the Perplexity app to the Google Play Store (launched beta in May 2023), and built an internal AI coding assistant tool using GPT-4-32k & RAG to rapidly reimplement iOS app features into the Android codebase - which started my obsession with LLM coding agents.

TikTok

Most senior Android engineer on the US team. I set standards and technical direction for our growing department & led several major features for our 1 billion+ users.

•	Tech lead for new media formats: Audio Mode and Photo Mode
•	Tech lead for the Discover Tab; shipped Top Categories and Top Sounds
•	Founded the Static Analysis Working Group, setting our first company-wide Java & Kotlin code standards; led a project to enforce these standards as well as code generation to standardize event tracking
•	Mentored junior teammates on architectural best practices; identified and coordinated efforts to resolve common developer pain points and infra issues across our global engineering org

Staff Software Engineer

Airbnb

At Airbnb's Experiences business, I built native implementations of key app features and UI components. I worked closely with designers to implement beautiful pixel-perfect flows that delighted our 150 million users and served their needs. 

I was part of several working groups; notably, the New Language Working Group, which defined processes to add & deprecate languages at Airbnb, and the Experiences mobile code quality working group.

And, following the impact of COVID-19 on the global travel market, I worked with my team to launch Online Experiences, a completely new product generating over 11,000 bookings in the first week alone.

Senior Android Engineer

Skip

As Skip's fourth engineer, I led the Android side of the company, taking over the main client app our riders used to rent scooters as well as the internal Android app used by our field operations team. 

I joined on the day of the San Francisco launch and we quickly dominated our home market; in the first 6 months, 90% of all scooter rentals in SF were Skip scooters (according to the official SFMTA report on the scooter program).

In addition to a UI & design overhaul of our mobile app and an architecture migration to MVVM, I also built and launched key features like Google Pay, a Google MLkit-based QR scanner, and a fully native implementation of Ranger mode, which allowed freelancers in the field to make money charging our scooters!

Android Lead

Postmates

At Postmates, I helped build the world's biggest on-demand platform with the most efficient deliveries, by making sure our couriers have the best app possible. Our Fleet app enabled our couriers to make over 3 million deliveries a month in over 50 cities. 

Some cool projects I worked on as a senior engineer on the Fleet team:

•	Implemented a total redesign and overhaul of the app into a single-screen/activity design. 
•	Introduced Kotlin to the company and made it the standard language for all of our new Android code.
•	Rearchitected onboarding experience to be totally flexible and server-driven, drastically lifting conversion of new users at both ends of the funnel.
•	Led localization and globalization efforts on mobile to achieve our first international launch: Mexico City!

GiveNow

Launched an “Uber for donations” app that let users request pickups of physical donations from their homes in Berlin, Germany to help address the Syrian refugee crisis, in coordination with Landesamt für Gesundheit und Soziales, the largest refugee center in Berlin.

• Built the Android app and the back-end
• Assembled a team of iOS engineers to launch the iOS version
• Won $5,000 grand prize for MVP implementation at CodePath

At Airy I led development of the Android app and the back-end for Airy Messenger, a new chat platform for customers who want to message businesses. We launched our beta in the Play Store in March 2016.

And spending years as a technical leader at some of the biggest consumer-facing mobile apps (TikTok, Airbnb, Uber) gave me a very sharp product sense for how to make new tech widely accessible to all (I consider TikTok to be the most successful AI-powered product prior to ChatGPT).
