Alvin Wang Graylin (汪丛青) is a distinguished author, corporate leader, investor and technology pioneer, with over three decades of experience at the forefront of the AI, XR, and semiconductor sectors. He held the position of China President at HTC from 2016 to 2023 and has transitioned to the role of Global VP of Corporate Development. Additionally, Graylin is Vice-Chairman of the Industry of Virtual Reality Alliance (IVRA), comprising over 300 corporate members, and President of the $18 billion Virtual Reality Venture Capital Alliance (VRVCA). He recently co-authored "Our Next Reality," a significant work published by Hachette Book Group, exploring societal transformation driven by AI and XR convergence. Graylin's tenure at HTC was marked by significant achievements, including being named the top VR company in China at the World Conference of VR Industry three times in the last four years, and he was recognized as the most influential figure in the VR/AR industry in China from 2016-2022. His early VR research, conducted under Prof. Tom Furness (Godfather of VR) at the HIT Lab, laid the foundation for his extensive career, which also includes specializations in AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) from the University of Washington and MIT. With a rich background as a serial entrepreneur, Graylin founded four venture-backed startups in diverse tech sectors like AI-based natural language search, mobile social networks, ad tech, and big-data AI analytics, across China and the U.S. As an investor, he has been involved in funding over 100 startups, and he played a pivotal role in establishing of HTC's Global VR accelerator and SOSV's mobile internet investment incubator. His corporate journey also features significant roles at global giants like Intel, Trend Micro, WatchGuard Technologies, and IBM. Graylin is a sought after keynote speaker, frequently featured at leading international conferences and media on topics relating to immersive computing (AR/VR/MR), artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, venture investing, and insights on the China market. He graduated with an M.S. in Computer Science specializing in AI from MIT, an M.S. in Business from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, and garnered top-of-class honors with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington, where he focused on VR, AI, and CPU architecture. Born in China during the Cultural Revolution and educated in the U.S. during the digital revolution, Graylin is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and various programming languages.
