If I walked into your company today as a new associate, how would I know what to do? How would I learn my job? What other departments do? What your customers care about? How your company makes money? You’d probably introduce me to a few people, pair me with a buddy, and tell me to read your embarrassingly outdated intranet. We’d have lunch together and that would be it. Or would I be put through an onboarding process where I learn the company business, its values, its customers, where to find answers to questions (on an awesome intranet), and meet all the members of my team in a department meeting? You can hire like crazy and invest in expensive software, but without good processes people don’t know what to do. And with work from home, this problem is 3X worse than it used to be. Running a business without reliable processes is like operating a public transit system without maps. Sure, you can rely on the same handful of A-Players to get stuff done, but that doesn’t scale. And it wears them out. That’s why I build reliable processes. I like to get stuff done. And for things to work well, so I use processes to be efficient and achieve excellent results. I engineer processes by combining my analytical problem-solving skills with my LEAN/AGILE experience. I see how a process fits into the bigger business picture which enables me to create the vision and get alignment. But my real superpower is creating process from the end user point of view. Businesses that use standardized processes are more cost efficient, produce higher quality results, more innovative, manage risk better, allocate resources more effectively, and make better decisions than ones that don’t.
