Sabbatical

Taking some time to travel, kickbox, angel invest, and consult before exploring startup ideas.

A few things I've done so far:
-Roadshow of Pakistani startups with Khyber Venture Partners in Karachi and Lahore (shortly before the sabbatical started), which led to a May investment
-Backpacked ~75 miles of Patagonia/Torres del Paine's O Circuit
-US southwest road trip to Guadalupe Mountains, Carlsbad Caverns, White Sands, Petrified Forest, Mesa Verde, and Great Sand Dunes National Parks
-New Zealand (Queenstown, Aoraki/Mt. Cook National Park, Fiordland National Park) and Australia trip (Sydney, Adelaide/Kangaroo Island, Melbourne)
-Finished skiing all the Ikon Pass Rocky Mountain resorts (Snowbasin, Deer Valley, Eldora, Sun Valley were the new ones this season)
-2.5 months of muay thai training and sparring at Easton Training Center + a few hours in Thailand
-Completed wildland firefighter training (S-130, S-190, L-180, ICS-100, IS-700) and NOLS Wilderness First Responder certification
-Some travel through Asia. Wuhan, Vietnam, Thailand, KL, Singapore, Bali
-Backpacked ~30 miles of the Teton Crest Trail from the Jackson Hole tram to Jenny Lake Visitor Center
-Hiked around Idaho's Sawtooth Wilderness, Telluride, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park
-Freediving classes in San Diego and spearfishing at the Coronado Islands
-GTM consulting for early stage AI startups and international SaaS startups
-Portuguese intensive classes while living in São Paulo (5th overall time to Brazil). Trips to Santos, Rio, and Floripa. Realized my Portuguese still wasn't good enough to start a company with Brazilian friends addressing the Brazilian market
-Watersports in O'ahu, Hawaii. E foiling, wing foiling, more spearfishing, more freediving (finished Molchanovs Wave 1 certification)
-Skied Kitzbuhel (& watched the Streif downhill), the Dolomites (Val Gardena, Sella Ronda circuit, Cortina D'Ampezzo, Arraba Marmolada) and Chamonix
-Read 60 books

Led lean startup/customer discovery efforts, technology assessment, and user trials within the consumer GORE-TEX® space to prove out new technologies for new markets.

Served for two years on Gore's East Coast Diversity Council, leading initiatives for millennial and minority recruiting and career development.

Developed new protective apparel products for military, structural firefighting, CBRN defense, arc-flash rated rain-wear end users.

My main interests outside of work include muay thai (Thai kickboxing), skiing, hiking, and learning Brazilian Portuguese.
