NORA – The Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium

NORA is a collaboration between 8 universities, 3 university colleges and 5 research institutes to strengthen Norwegian research, education and innovation within artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics, as well as other relevant research that supports the development of artificial intelligence applications. My role currently consist of the following activities:

• Contributing to political hearings on AI in the Parliament of Norway
• Leading strategy work in the consortium, written the strategy for 2023-2026 in collaboration with the CEO and the board
• Mapping AI projects across the Norwegian public sector for a national operational overview together with the Norwegian Digitalisation Agency
• Managing the work package on sustainable and trustworthy AI in the European Digital Innovation Hub Nemonoor with a deliverable on national guidelines
• Organising events with political and academic leadership, for example involving the State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Care Services
• Participating in the OECD within the AI expert group on compute and climate
• Interfacing with embassies and international organisations

Senior AI Policy Advisor

• Part of a working group together with the Ministry of Research and Education administrating the Norwegian agreement on AI collaboration with the US Department of Energy "Collaboration on Artificial Intelligence and its Applications to Science, Climate, Energy and Health."
• Building an overview of how AI is used in the Norwegian public sector to help assist coordinating research on a national level with international partners.
• Providing an overview of national and international policies relating to the field of artificial intelligence
• Writing Memorandum of Understanding documents with other international AI organisations
• Participating in national and international engagements towards ethical frameworks as a member in NORDE (the Norwegian Council for Digital Ethics), the CLAIRE working group on ethics etc.
• Assisting in the development and coordination of the Nordic AI young researcher symposium and NORA yearly conference
• Hosting webinars with NORA.startup an official innovation ecosystem recognised by Innovation Norway
• Mapping PhD courses across member institutions for the NORA research school
• Developing and coordinating AI mapping with NORA and the Confederation of Laboratories for
Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe (CLAIRE)
• Cooperating with authorities and government funding agencies in order to develop the field of AI in Norway
• Developing and reporting on indicators within the strategies and action plans for NORA in cooperation with NORA members

Nominated by Norway and appointed by the OECD secretariat as a Member of the Compute and Climate Expert Group, under the auspices of the AI Policy Observatory and Committee for Digital Economy Policy (CDEP), to help create a basic framework for understanding, measuring and benchmarking domestic AI computing supply by country and region.

I worked to facilitate a global community of 14'558 Earthpreneurs and to find out how to help accelerate the pace of change together reaching towards increased global sustainability.

"Think individually and act as one." That was our motto. I developed strategies, brands and products for mainly entrepreneurs. I helped start and run The Worst communications agency from 2015 until the beginning of 2018 when I stepped in full-time as the Chief Communications Officer at YSI. I held the position of Chairman of the board until December 2018 when I sold my shares following my decision to pursue an education in social science at the University of Oslo.

• Registered the company with the relevant authorities and ensured follow-up on commitments to the state in regards to value added tax on our services.
• Helped grow the company from nothing to four employees as the Chairman of the board and operational designer/consultant alongside our CEO. 
• Secured design distribution that landed us our biggest client throughout the years within the property technology industry. This later developed into a new distributor which then became the main source of income for the company.
• Delivered to more than 20+ diverse set of clients from small-scale to one of the largest companies in Norway.
• Built and project managed a coworking space of 4500sqm five minutes away from the Oslo Central Station and coordinated the design efforts for consistent branding across both web and signage throughout the building. Together with The Worst and external design partners, mainly architects and interior designers.
• Consulted on a 42'500sqm office project called Rosenholm Campus, previously the headquarters for IBM in Oslo, bringing in an acclaimed urbanist named Tin Phan and staying on-the-ground for four months to ensure implementation. In addition to this coordinating the development of a new website.

Interiør and design products. Listed as Norwegian ’Gaselle Company’ 5 times. It was ranked as one of the fastest growing companies in Norway three years in a row. Started as a Sales and Marketing Assistant. I was working as the Marketing Director and Designer for the company until it was sold in 2016.

As Marketing Director (2014-2016):
• Designing packaging and visuals for interior products.
• Designing, implementing, launching and marketing the new web-store and website.
• B2B sales to a portfolio of 500 wholesale clients.
• Building the PALMA brand in Norway and communicating our brand values to consumers.
• Planning and Organising PALMA events. Monthly customer events.
• Managing digital marketing channels. Facebook, Instagram, Website and Google (SEO).
• Creating campaigns stretching across both physical and digital media.

Roskilde Festival

Roskilde Festival is the largest North European culture and music festival and has existed since 1971. Every year, about 100,000 young people visit the festival from Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany. Worked with Esben Danielsen (Head of Development), a very inspiring character which became the Director of Innovation of Roskilde festival and now work developing national culture in Denmark through Lokale & Anlægsfonden.

Shift Leader (Trade) - Hovefestivalen

Responsible development and applications in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) for collaboration towards increased global sustainability is my focus. My background is a combination of programming, design, data science and social science. I have experience from commercial retail; operating a coworking space; setting up an international NGO; startup founder; and within advanced international research collaboration as well as supporting bilateral agreements in the field of AI.

I realised the possibility of digital communication building a network of 10,000 earthpreneurs from more than 100 countries, youth working towards sustainability. Previously I have built up my understanding of communications through my role as marketing director, and later running a design agency for two years. As a co-founder and board member I helped build two workplaces. After starting up YSI and reaching youth from 170 countries interested in sustainable entrepreneurship I decided to pursue social anthropology with computer science. 

I then started working in KPMG Norway as an Associate in Risk Consulting, focused on applications of artificial intelligence (AI) as well as international development with United Nations and Red Cross as main clients. I am an avid writer on the topic of climate change and technology. I did a personal project writing one new article about artificial intelligence every day for 500 days. I started pursuing my MSc in Social Data Science at the University of Copenhagen and recently working with the Norwegian Artificial Intelligence Research Consortium.

The name 莫战 (Mò zhàn) that you intermittently see in my profile was given to me during my Chinese studies by my lecturer. I am currently learning Mandarin Chinese, although I am not at an advanced level yet I enjoy exploring this new language.
