Director of Content and Community Marketing

A Cloud Guru

In this position, I managed a team of 7 individuals - content creators, managers and producers located in Australia and the US to create free cloud computing training for the community. The Community Content portfolio consists of over 30 web series lines over all major cloud providers and cloud adjacent technologies, with a library totalling over 120 hours of in-house produced video content.
 
My main responsibilities were to oversee the content strategy, roadmap and operations of my team and to enable and build a high-performing team. I was responsible for setting and documenting the Community Content strategy in line with overall business and divisional goals, including creating quarterly and half-yearly goals (OKRs), creating, maintaining and communicating the content roadmap; and setting monthly viewership and engagement targets. I used data and customer feedback to drive and evolve the roadmap.   

I supported my direct reports in all aspects of Community Content publishing processes and workflows, including improving the creation, distribution, maintenance and reception of content and actively managed the resource allocation of Community Content personnel, including capacity planning, divisional hiring and staffing plans and work redistribution of work efforts.

I was involved in driving and/or participating in new cross-functional projects and initiatives with colleagues in other departments, ensuring any resulting process, systems or policy changes were sustainably delegated and managed.

Director of Community Content

In the Lead Content Manager position, I took on the people management of a team of 4 Content Managers, including 1:1, performance reviews, career development and goal-setting. My role transitioned from hands-on project management to overseeing content delivery across the team, assisting content managers in ensuring all content projects were delivered on time and to budget. I supported the team in working through delivery issues, and continuously facilitating the development of improvements in delivery practices.

I supported the Head of Content by participating in content planning and the development of OKRs and the Content Roadmap and in monitoring content satisfaction ratings and working with content managers and creators to mitigate content that did not meet standards.

Lead Content Manager

As Senior Content Manager, I continued with the end-to-end project management of content from post-commissioning stage to launch, including scheduling and task management of deliverables from project team members.

I took on the role of mentoring and coaching of other Content Managers, including devising and modelling content project management best practices. I continued building on my strong editorial skillset by copyediting and reviewing slides and videos for grammatical and spelling accuracy, layout and presentation in line with Editorial House Style.
 
I also Working with the product and engineering teams to support the content platform experience and created and maintained a content release calendar to communicate content launch information to the rest of the business.

Senior Content Manager

As Content Manager at A Cloud Guru, I managed the production of high-quality video course content, ensuring it is published on time and to budget. I coordinated and support over 30 freelance instructors in developing and delivering their content, as well as on-boarding new instructors. I devised and implement streamlined, effective and scalable content production and maintenance processes to support the growth of the business.

In this position, I supported the VP of Content by reporting on current and upcoming projects, helping to define and develop a set of content metrics and contributing to a content roadmap that is aligned to the A Cloud Guru content strategy.

Content Manager

Oxford University Press

As Senior Publisher, I took overall responsibility for the Primary Division's English,  Languages and Literacy list. I also managed the dictionaries and thesaurus portfolio for all divisions of Oxford University Press Australia and New Zealand.

My role involved setting and implementing strategies relevant to my portfolio in conjunction with senior management. My every day duties included conducting market research, scoping out new projects, commissioning authors and consultants and stakeholder management and communication. I was heavily involved in content development and assumed final accountability on all my projects. Other duties included shaping product information for sales and marketing purposes and carrying out research to evaluate the efficacy of published products. 

I am proud to have been a co-winner of the Megan Lewis Bursary (company-wide innovation bursary), which was used to commission an Augmented Reality prototype app. I wrote the trial framework and organised trialing of the app with two key user schools in November 2017. 

I was also the lead project manager of the Oxford Wordlist 2017 research, an update of the original Oxford Wordlist research conducted in 2007, with the subsequent published wordlist used in more than 50% of Australian Primary Schools.  

In addition to my key tasks, I conducted research into emerging educational technologies and was a volunteer on the office Green committee.

Senior Publisher (Primary)

In my position as Primary Publisher, I was responsible for conducting rigorous market research and competitor analyses in order to scope out, cost and propose projects. My role involved sourcing new authors and consultants, networking and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships. In briefing and commissioning content, I ensured that manuscripts were developed to a high standard and handed over in a timely manner. Overall, I was responsible for ensuring projects were delivered on time, within budget and with minimal error.

Other duties included shaping product information for sales and marketing purposes, and carrying out research to evaluate the efficacy of published products. 

Alongside these responsibilities, I was a key user trained in project and change management methodologies in the business. I continued volunteering for the office Green committee as co-writer and co-editor of the Oxford Green Monthly, an all-staff email newsletter on environmental issues. I also volunteered on the Educational Publishing Awards Australia 2016 committee.

Publisher (Primary)

In my role as a Development Editor, I structurally edited and developed manuscripts to ensure they were appropriate in tone, style, overall content, features, scope and language difficulty. I also supported the publishing team in conducting market research required before the proposal and commissioning stages of various projects. My frequent and consistent contact with authors in this role helped me to develop strong author management and communication skills.

I successfully project managed (from a publishing/content point of view) the release of 108 interactive literacy ebooks as part of the Oxford Literacy Independent Stage 2 digital release. The project was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget.

Primary Development Editor

From October 2014 to May 2015, I took editorial responsibility for 12 Primary literacy titles that were commissioned and completed as part of a collaboration project with the Oxford University Press Education team based in the United Kingdom. This project involved working closely with various stakeholders – authors, illustrators, designers, publishers and a levelling expert – at every stage, and required a high level of communication and negotiation skills to develop titles that work for both the Australian and UK markets. 

Other duties included project editing supplementary teacher content in both print and digital formats, as well as various proofreading tasks. I was also involved in the testing and digital authoring of e-activities for the company's online literacy assessment and independent reading platform. 

I also took on editorial project management responsibility for the Australian Primary Oxford Dictionary Fourth edition (published July 2015), working closely with the Australian National Dictionary Centre in Canberra to ensure accurate and timely delivery of a key reference resource for the company.

Primary Editor

Alongside concurrent Publishing Coordinator duties such as contracts administration and reprint correction duties, I collated, analysed and presented the results of a nationwide literacy survey of over 250 schools to the division to support the setting of future publishing initiatives.

As an Editorial Coordinator, I acted in the capacity of a trainee editor and edited 18 literacy fiction titles that were versioned from an import series. I assisted senior editors with various tasks, including assisting with photoshoots. I also proofread supplementary educational and promotional material.

Primary Publishing & Editorial Coordinator

In this dual-portfolio role, my Professional Support duties included assisting the Professional Development Manager with implementing a new training program that made $250,000 of product sales in its first year. I successfully coordinated more than 30 Professional Development sessions all across Australia. I administered more than 50 email, website and hard copy campaigns to over 7,000 schools nationwide. My role required me to perform all pre-event management, including registrations and invoicing, and all post-event administration to a high standard.

For my Publishing Coordinator portfolio, I performed contract administration, CiP (Cataloguing in Publication) registration and ELR/PLR (Educational Lending Rights/ Public Lending Rights) lodgements. I answered author queries pertaining to contracts, rights reversion and reprographic subsidiary income and worked with the Reprints Controller to manage reprint corrections.

Alongside concurrent Professional Development Coordinator duties, I performed sales administration duties including running and distributing sales reports, maintaining the CRM database, and assisting with bookseller enquiries from New Zealand.

In this internship, I wrote media releases and speeches for the mayor; compiled media contact lists and statistics; assisted in research projects, and used my experience in the committee of the Melbourne University Film Society to help organisae Maribyrnong City Council's Refugee Week Film Festival in June 2010.

My duties included the initial brainstorming and development of a strong curatorial vision for a fashion in film showcase, in partnership with the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in March 2009. I sourced and acquired engaging and relevant content for the showcase; complying with film licensing and legal requirements through the film rights acquisition processes.

Showcase Producer

This role involved conducting marketing research and compiling media statistics, content sourcing, reviewing and media handling in time for Portable Film Festival's showcase in August. It also included film festival promotional activities such as writing and editing copy for media releases.
