- Handled my own caseload of pre-litigated Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) files in the Industrial Disease Defendant Insurance department.

- Defended claims from inception to settlement and negotiated the Claimant's costs for each file. 

- Worked on behalf of major insurers and corporate clients.

This role involved liaising with both claimant and co-defendant solicitors, insurers, insurance brokers and insolvency practitioners whilst reviewing and analysing the strengths and weaknesses of each case in accordance with medical evidence, breach of duty, limitation, quantum and causation.

Assisted a Senior Fee Earner on a shared caseload of over 400 Personal Injury files including NIHL, EL/PL, RTA Pedestrian and Slips & Trips. These included a small number of litigated files.

Specialised in the area of Noise Induced Hearing Loss claims.

My main responsibilities were:

- Vetting and setting up new cases after speaking to clients, as well as failing and closing cases. 
- Attendance on clients in order to take witness statements, obtain information and make medical appointments.
- Liaising between clients, medical agencies, experts and with the defendant’s Insurers and Solicitors.
- Dealing with defendant and client queries and reporting to the appropriate Partner or Fee earner.
- Preparing and filing standard legal forms and court documents. 
- Deal with incoming cheques and write to cashiers to pay disbursements.
- Fixing dates for Court hearings by liaising with Counsel and Court to find mutually convenient dates.
- Arranging conferences with Counsel and liaising with client, solicitor, barrister and experts.
- Preparing bills on settled files and negotiating with the costs lawyers to recover the firms Costs.
- Perform relevant searches with the Employers Liability Tracing Office (ELTO) and request Inland Revenue Schedules from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
- To undertake other duties such as researching law, opening new post, searching old files, obtaining documents, writing off costs, running errands and supporting other fee earners when required.

- I completed a summer placement at this firm which specialises in Immigration and Asylum cases. 
- I liaised with other professional bodies such as the UK Border Agency and interviewed clients claiming asylum or appealing against a refusal decision from the Home Office. 
- I also took witness statements and analysed important documents such as reasons for refusal given by the Home Office; attention to detail here was necessary in order to look for any discrepancies.
