Hey, I’m Alli 👋

I’m hyper-focused on finding authentic and strategic ways to make and repurpose product-centric, data-driven, audience-focused, and conversion-minded content. 

I’ve grown content teams from the ground up and created processes that secure consistent site visits, encourage community engagement, increase product usage, and generate free trials and demo requests.

Most recently, I worked at one of the most well-known B2B content marketing agencies, Animalz, as a Senior Team Lead. There, I managed a team of 13 Content Managers and provided strategic direction for 15 of the world’s best enterprise companies, startups, and VC firms.

I’m also a working mom to an energetic toddler, a dog mom to two fur babies, a peloton lover 🚴‍♀️, and a RPDR aficionado 👑.

I applied for jobs while pregnant, and, started more new jobs than I'd like to admit before my daughter turned two 🙈 👶. 

But now that I look back, I did not handle my job searches as well as I should have.

I always saw these beautiful posts on LinkedIn of women hired while very pregnant, and thought, "𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔. 𝐼𝑡'𝑠 𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑏𝑙𝑒. 𝐼 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑑𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠!"

When you try to make an April Fool's Day video for Shifting Priorities, but your co-host is a three-year-old...

🖐 Five learnings, five episodes into creating my own show, Shifting Priorities.

1️⃣ Most of my guests don't need to review the audio before it's live, but I've officially started sharing it. I've found it's helpful to include them in the creative process.

 2️⃣ There is an ART to promotion 🎨  - not too much, not too little - one video, one graphic, one with just text. (I think Jess does this well for That's Marketing, Baby if you want some inspo!) 

 3️⃣ I've seen each episode complete a different, exciting goal. For example, one episode increased my follower count, while another episode got a TON of downloads. Evaluating results from different angles, and switching out goals when needed is KEY. 

 4️⃣ The community we're slowly building (𝐼'𝑚 𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑙𝑢𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑦 𝑔𝑢𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠, 𝐼 𝑓𝑒𝑒𝑙 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑦 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑎 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑡𝑜𝑜) is the BEST part. 

 5️⃣ Holy cow this is a LIFT. I so clearly see the benefit of hiring a media brand agency after doing so much of this myself. Sweet Fish is accepting new clients if you're thinking about it 😉 .

I miss hanging out with Alli Tunell and Alexandir Tunell in the office everyday. Awesome getting to spend some time with them tonight!

Great conversation about the challenges of being working parents, much of which I 100% relate to. Make sure to check out the podcast!

In the last few years, I've considered COMPLETELY changing my career. Because of so much turbulence in tech - I started to reach my breaking point.

And OF COURSE, this all started happening around the time I became a mother.

But I've felt so much comfort recently, knowing that I'm not the only one who has considered it. 

One of my favorite takes on this was from Chelsea Castle. 

Chelsea had this moment too, but acted on it in a way that was tactful and strategic. She created a spreadsheet that listed the values she wanted to see from a company and then identified how each company acted on those values.

And because her ultimate goal is to optimize the time she spends with her daughter, but still focus on her career - she is able to keep that mentality front and center through this spreadsheet.

Chelsea talks about this process in this week's episode of Shifting Priorities at around the 22-minute mark.

She also covers other amazing topics like optimizing a flexible childcare schedule, giving yourself grace when returning from leave, the best way to work through mom guilt - and so much more.

Some of the most strategic people I've worked with have been experts at calendar blocking 📆 🙅‍♀️ . And many of them are parents.

And Jessica talked about how key it is to protect your calendar during pregnancy on Shifting Priorities 🤰.  

ESPECIALLY when you're in your first trimester. Because most of us tend to hide our pregnancies then - but we're also NOT at peak performance during these times. 

It can be HARD to be on back-to-back calls when you're dealing with morning sickness, migraines, etc. 

But instead of canceling calls at the last minute because you're not feeling up to it - Jessica suggests taking note of the time of day when you normally don't feel the best, and blocking your calendar then in advance. 

Your first trimester is also a good time to ask your teammates if they want to create "user manuals." (another great tip from, Jessica 🎉 !) 

By asking them how they work best - you can create an opportunity to explain how you work best, too. 

When do you start and end your day? 
When do you like to have focus time? 
When do you like to have meetings? 
What's your preferred communication method?

You can save these preferences in your Slack profile, and encourage the rest of the team to do the same. 

Time blocking is not as simple as one, two-hour block a week that says "FOCUS TIME." It's ALL ABOUT being strategic. You can DO this 💪 .
