~Developed “Understanding by Design (UbD)” lesson plans for 9th & 10th grade English
        Understanding by Design is an approach that uses Enduring Understandings and Essential 
        Questions 
     to frame a unit of study
~Designed units around the schoolwide themes of identity (9th grade) and systems (10th grade) 
9th Essential Questions: Who am I? What influences my identity? How do I interact with my world? 
10th Essential Questions: How are systems created and defined? What is the role of the individual within the system?
~Designed a creative project inspired by weekly individual reading which encouraged individual reading and allowed for unique student expression
~Created assessments for growth and mastery Accepted resubmissions on major projects based off teacher feedback
~ Designed project-based assessments through quarterly student projects such as creating a graphic novel, a dystopian story, a children’s book, and an imagined supreme court case and trial.
~ Structured class as a dialogic classroom focused on student-led conversations
~Collaborated with year-long mentor Matt Kay, author of Not Light but Fire: How to Lead Meaningful Race Conversations in the Classroom
~ Taught four classes of thirty-four students (136 students total)
~Crafted lessons that attended to essential questions regarding identity and systems such that minoritized voices were heard
~ Responded to the diverse cultural identities of my students by including writers from varying backgrounds Curated readings such as Sold, Poet X, Native Son, Girl in Translation, excerpts from Malcolm X’s biography, and Americanah among others
~Accommodated learning differences such as autism, dyslexia, behavioral disorders, emotional disorders using scaffolding techniques to help drive student growth
~Adjusted to disturbances in learning due to asbestos and COVID-19 through weekly check-ins, modification of lessons, and creating a book club

~Taught two classes of fifteen high-achieving students (30 students total) daily for a two-hour class period
~ Developed the 10th grade literature & writing curriculum for Breakthrough Pittsburgh
~ Designed a six-week unit based on The Handmaid’s Tale with preparation for AP English built-in through scaffolded writing lessons on analytical writing
~ Fostered a sense of ownership through student-led discussions
~ Student-centered approach built from a gradual responsibility release where I weaned them off teacher-participation in discussion to fully transition to a collegiate-style discussion
~Developed content and taught a mini-course titled Be the Change
~ Engaged different identities on discourse pertaining to racism, sexual assault, and homophobia to empower student voices

~ Designed collection of camp experiments such as CAD designed lanterns, 3D printed keychains, soldering LED programmable robots, and graphic designed t-shirts
~ Instructed fifteen campers aged 7-15 daily from 8am-4pm
~ Supervised an instructional team of five camp instructors through weekly meetings to ensure staff support
~ Led instruction on machinery pertaining to student experiments to ensure safety such as laser cutters, 3D printers, heat presses, & sewing machines
