I'm currently Deputy Dean (Internationalisation) for the School of Medical and Life Sciences, Sunway University, Malaysia. I am also a Professor at the Department of Psychology within the same School. As Deputy Dean (International), my role encompasses developing new and existing global partnerships and linkages for various types of stakeholder engagements, which include research collaborations, staff and student mobility, cultural exchanges, as well as the internationalisation of curricula and developing global learning initiatives. I also facilitate the positive integration of international students within the School's academic programmes. Basically my portfolio covers anything international within the School of Medical and Life Sciences (SMLS), including international university reputation and ranking exercises. With regard to research, my main interest areas are in mental health literacy, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy and cross-cultural aspects of mental health intervention. I also teach in the BSc (Hons) Psychology programme - usually Introductory Psychology, Abnormal Psychology / Psychological Disorders, Behaviour Modification and History of Psychology. I also supervise MSc Psychology and PhD Psychology candidates. I'm currently Programme Leader for the Master of Applied Behaviour Analysis program that's the only one of its kind in Southeast Asia. While a clinical psychologist by training, I'm now a full-time academic. I'm passionate about promoting clinical psychology as a mental health profession especially in Malaysia where it is still in its infancy. I helped found the Malaysian Society of Clinical Psychology in 2010, where I was also the Founding President (my membership number is CP1-0001). In my 23 years as an academic, I've given over 400 talks to organisations, the public and at conferences - usually on psychology and mental health topics. In my free time, I enjoy doodling - mostly my cartoon owl named Owlvin, and his friends. I'm still looking for a keen publisher for a manuscript I've written and illustrated called "When Owlvin Almost Spoiled Christmas".
