You can’t afford being depressed!

Here are three things that will help you moving forward despite the odds!

1- Meaningful action towards a goal you burn 🔥 to achieve! Break the steps down in small tiny steps. At this stage progress and direction are more important than perfection.

2- Having a clear purpose that is larger than you, something that gives your existence higher meaning. Something worth fighting for, that will act as an engine in the hardest times!

3- Acknowledging the blessings in your life and practicing gratitude for all the blessings in your life! It’s the hot air balloon that will pull you out of the rut and out of darkness!

In 2023 I learned a big lesson about letting go!

Control is an illusion!

Last year I learned the lesson the hard way.

My visa appointment was moved back, causing a complete collapse to my planning! I would miss 
1- an important training event with Flipmonday 
2- CIRCYOULAR® certification
3- High performance coaching High Performance Institute (HPI) 

I tried everything, and it didn’t work.

I stressed myself more and more, but nothing worked!

Until I faced the situation!

There’s nothing I can do!
I did everything I can!

It’s time to let go!

So I let go!

Immediately I felt a relief.

I called the visa service provider to ask them something and the lady on the other side said:

Oh, Mr Aly! 
Thank god you just called me.
I was going to call you now!
A spot opened up, can you take it?

You can’t imagine how I felt in that moment!

The rest is history!

I lead the training
I got certified
I got certified again 

And I had a blast in China with one great client and their great people!

This is a message to myself!
A message to :

Do my thing

Let go of my expectations 

And watch the magic happen !

I am travelling back home!

A sentence I say when I am 

- travelling from Munich to Cairo
- travelling from Cairo to Munich

And if I was living in another country I would have said the same thing to that place, home!

Growing up in both countries, both are home of wonderful memories with friends and family.

Wether it is culture, education, work experience and life experience, I am grateful I can build on the best of what these countries have to offer.

Writing this also reminds me how fortunate I am, unlike many brothers, sisters and fellow human beings who are being displaced and call a tent home, unable to go back to their homes!

I am truly blessed, like many of us, having a roof over my head and a place I can call home!

8 months have passed quickly!

In this time I had the pleasure to work with a great team, support them and learn from them.

It has been an absolute blast to see them deliver such great performance and grow stronger as a team.

It’s one of the few times where parting with such a great team feels so hard!

I know that this team will achieve so much more.

Who has not been diagnosed with ADHD / ADD? (Yet)

You’re looking at two who have been diagnosed!

My daughter was diagnosed when she was 5!

I was diagnosed when I was 45!

The question remains, was our diagnosis the right diagnosis?

There is evidence that there is a general over prescription of ADHD medications. 
(both of us are drug free)

There was a time when I was determined to understand the root cause of my failures.

When I was diagnosed with ADHD, I thought suffering has come to an end, but I was starting a new type of suffering.

In fact, these failures included me working in some of the most prestigious companies across the globe, achieving a great standard of living for my family.

I did get better though!

- I got better and moved on when I stopped looking at my past experiences as failures.

- It got better when I started to learn about my strength and bank on it.

- It got better when I started working on improving myself.

- It got better when I started shifting my mindset.

- I got better when I started counting all the blessings in my life.

There are too many labels and too many ways to Google self diagnose.

Our confirmation bias just makes it so much worse!

I helped myself when I stopped looking at the labels and started looking at what works for me and how can I make the best out of what I have.

My daughter doesn’t even remember the diagnosis and is also coping and learning to handle the cards she has been dealt.

I can only recommend all of us do the same!

Some thoughts on the 1% better each day!

1- 1% better means 37X better not 37% better after 365 days. We are growing in so many ways that it couldn't be quantified in one sentence.

2- Same same does not exist, you either improve, or you fall back. The whole world is moving forward at such a high pace, staying still is equal to falling back.

3- 1% worse means falling to zero in a scary way. Add to it the fact that the whole world is moving forward, you will find yourself in the negative.

From a practical point of view, you have to do the following.
1- Pick a direction
2- focus on making small progress towards that direction
3- focus on making small steps every day
4- focus on making tiny improvements every day
5- Time, effort and progress are your friends


This is mainly a reminder to myself!

Your symptoms:

Too much to do - too little time

Endless sticky notes - almost zero productivity

To Do list is getting longer and longer and longer and longer and longer.

Anxiety, pressure and overwhelm!

Hundreds of emails unread

Thousands of emails in your inbox

You wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall back asleep

Mohammed, your handwriting is horrible!
A sentence I heard from the moment I could write.

For years it haunted me.
I beat myself up because of it!

But one day something happened:
A manager dropped by and asked me:
Mohammed, did you run a workshop last week?
I said: yes, I did.
Manager: I saw your flip chart in production and said, yes, that’s Mohammed leading a workshop!

It clicked in my head.

In her head it wasn’t: 
His handwriting is horrible!

It was:
Mohammed did a workshop!

Maybe it was horrible handwriting but the first thought was about working and adding value!

Throughout my journey, I am learning to accept myself!

I am learning to accept myself, my voice, my shape and to accept my handwriting!

And it is taking so much pressure off my shoulders and it’s giving me the energy to do the things I love.

And that is, to help people have a better life, leave a good mark and be more fulfilled!

What is the one thing you are learning to accept!

A simple thing! 
Told my team to present their work in front of the company!
Yet I could see one of them getting a panic attack on stage!

Thankfully, it was just the rehearsal and I did not push her.

Off stage she experienced the whole bandwidth:

- crying
- shortness of breath
- shivering
- hands shaking

The whole team pulled together and supported her.

Other team members outed themselves, they were uneasy and didn’t want to stand in front of the whole crowd presenting their results!

In day to day settings, they were hard working, competent and confident persons.

But public speaking is another thing! It wasn’t their thing.

Instead of pushing them, we learned to appreciate their other strengths.

There is too much focus on improving your weaknesses, which is something one could do.

But that’s the beauty of working within a team.

The sum of their strengths will outweigh their weaknesses.

To my 2021 self:
 
While your daughter is in tennis practice, you are about to take a life changing decision.

I can see you sitting in that rental car in the car park in front of the supermarket, talking to Christoph. 

Your mind is sold about high performance coaching, but your heart is racing.

You are afraid.

Not only the financial load, but there is something much more concerning.

You are questioning yourself.

You are questioning your own commitment.

You are afraid that you will not pull through the program!

All the concerns and BS aside, the one thing you are afraid of is the following!

You are afraid that you will let your own self down, again!

It’s the weight of the unkept promises to our own selves, that is pulling us down.

Forgive yourself, let go of that weight and see how far you will shoot up!

Three years later, I want to thank you!

You did not break your promise to yourself.

You made me the man I am today.

And our 2027 years old self will be something, you and I can only dream of.

And he will thank us too.

For not breaking our promises to ourselves!

It’s not getting better for many of us.
The technological advancements even make it worse!

Here is a story about solving the right problems!

The good old plastic lid is 

Germany’s move to ban plastic straws and lids was aimed at mitigating waste, yet it sparks a critical dialogue on the real impact of such measures. 

Despite its minor contribution to global pollution, Germany’s localized ban on plastic items like lids brings into question the effectiveness of focusing on small-scale prohibitions in addressing a global crisis.

The core issue with bans is their simplicity as a solution; they often hide rather than solve the problem, potentially stifling innovation by removing the incentive to develop more sustainable alternatives. 

Germany, with its advanced recycling systems for plastics and glass, exemplifies that enhancing and simplifying recycling processes could be a more efficient way forward.

This episode serves as a reminder of the need for environmental policies to be both impactful and widely accepted. 

It stresses the importance of identifying the right environmental challenges to tackle, advocating for innovative solutions over superficial actions. 

Ultimately, it calls for a shift towards enhancing recycling and encouraging innovative solutions that align with public acceptance and environmental sustainability.

Giving up on yourself!

The one pain I see many former high achievers experience.

They give up on their dreams.
They lose self confidence.
They form a negative image of themselves.

And it breaks my heart when I see it, cause I know exactly know how it feels.

It’s workshop time!

All I do is:

- Take their knowledge

- Visualise it physically 

- Teach some concepts

- Ask some questions 

- Keep them focused

And then I step back and watch the magic happening.

It’s one of the most rewarding things I am grateful for!

"We've always done it like that!" is not a good strategy!
Equality isn't always good either!
The other day I was in the mall, it was not even a crowded day, and not even lots of people walking around. It was a Tuesday at noon for god's sake!

Going to the restroom, I saw the classic image: 
a long que for the lady's restroom and an empty men's restroom. 

It's fair to say that the restroom area for men and women is the same, yet the needs for men and needs for women are different.
Because of that space equality, women have to "suffer" more.

And nobody is addressing it. 

And why is that?

Because we've always done it like that!

The "we've always done it like that" mentality isn't serving us, not only in this case, but many others.

We hide behind it, because

- We don't see the problem.
- We don't want to face the problem.
- Don't know how to solve the problem.

It's also a declaration of failure that people don't want to acknowledge:

"We've always done it like that!", which if we translate into it's actual meaning would be: 

"So you think you are better than us with your new idea? 
Get in line smartypants and do it the inefficient way that we have been following for the last two decades!"

I don't know the solution to the lady's restroom dilemma, giving them more space would be my go to solution, but I am no architect. 

Let me ask you a question:
What is your: I've always done it like that ?

(I have seen one airport so far in the world, where they have efficiently solved that problem in a space saving and human dignifying way!)

You're the average of the five people you spend the most time with!

In my final year of engineering school, I learned this firsthand. 

Joining a group of dedicated and driven peers was a turning point for me. 

This crew wasn't just about individual brilliance; it was about mutual support, sharing notes, and pushing each other to new heights. 

Their blend of friendly competition and collaborative spirit created an environment where everyone thrived. 

This experience taught me a valuable life lesson: Whether in school or in the professional world, surrounding yourself with the right people can propel you towards success.

It’s educational!

And above all, it promotes collaboration!
