I specialise in helping women recover from narcissistic and toxic abuse - in relationships, families, and the workplace - so they can rebuild confidence, reclaim their identity, and feel safe being themselves again.

When honesty is not the best policy.


Many of us were raised to believe that honesty is always the answer - that if we just explain ourselves clearly enough, things will improve.

But when you’re dealing with someone who is emotionally unsafe, honesty can become a liability.

In healthy relationships, openness builds trust.

In toxic ones, openness becomes information - and information gets used to: 

• undermine your confidence
• twist your words
• weaponise your vulnerabilities
• rewrite history
• push your buttons more efficiently next time

If you’re starting to realise that a partner, parent, sibling, boss or colleague leaves you feeling confused, guarded, drained or constantly on edge, it probably isn't because you’re bad at communicating - and certainly not because you need to explain yourself more.

It may well be because you’re communicating with someone who doesn’t play fair.

One of the hardest (and most empowering) lessons many high-functioning, emotionally intelligent people learn is this:

You don’t owe everyone full access to your inner world.

Being discerning is not being dishonest.

Being private is not being manipulative.

And choosing what to share - and with whom - is not “playing games”.
It’s self-protection.

Playing your cards close to your chest doesn’t mean becoming cold or calculated.

💡It means noticing patterns.
💡It means stopping over-explaining.
💡It means resisting the urge to justify your needs to someone who repeatedly dismisses them.

Sometimes, wisdom looks less like honesty…and more like discernment.

which can make us feel a bit pressured, and sometimes overwhelmed.

So today, I want to offer you a very gentle invitation...

...to do just one small thing.

Something that nudges you a tiny step closer to the person you want to be this year.

Here’s the trick that makes it work without willpower:

🪄Pair it with something you already do.

👉For example:
• Take three slow, grounding breaths just before you brush your teeth
• Do a few toe or heel raises while the kettle boils
• Say one kind sentence to yourself while putting your shoes on
• Drink a glass of water before your first coffee
• Time-block tomorrow's tasks in your diary before you close your laptop for the day (this one is a total game-changer for me 🌟)

Nothing too dramatic or time-consuming.
Just a small act of self-respect, repeated often enough to matter - and to move that needle.

These little habits re-teach your nervous system:
“My needs are important and I’m choosing myself.”

And that’s how change actually sticks.

You don’t need massive amounts of motivation.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You just need to begin - gently.
