Good ideas don’t fail.
Friction does.


I recently led an experiment 
rolling out a LinkedIn Advocacy Program across teams.

The goal was simple:
help individuals build their LinkedIn presence
while strengthening the company voice.

On paper, it made sense.
In reality, adoption was limited.
And that result was the learning.

From a marketing psychology lens, the reason was clear:
the starting effort was too high.

To participate, people had to
decide what to post,
write content from scratch,
research ideas,
and worry about getting it right.

That’s high cognitive load.
At the same time, the reward felt distant.

Personal branding compounds over time.
The effort is felt immediately.

Add the fear of posting publicly,
and inaction became the safest default.

This wasn’t a motivation problem.
It was a friction problem.

The next phase is obvious:
front-load the effort for users,
provide ready-to-use resources,
and make the first step effortless.

Armed with these learnings,
the next phase is being designed
to remove friction from day one.

Because in marketing, effort is the real conversion rate.
This experiment didn’t fail.

It revealed the bottleneck.
And fixing that bottleneck
is where the real work begins.

I was trying to change a business email on Meta.
Turns out, I was in the wrong place.


The task sounded simple:
Update the main business email used for access and ownership.

Naturally, I opened Meta Business Suite.
That’s where most day-to-day work happens.

But the option wasn’t there.
Nothing was broken.
I was just in the wrong section.

Here’s the part Meta doesn’t make very obvious:
Meta Business Suite and Meta Business Portfolio are connected.

They are not separate platforms.
Business Suite is the workspace.
Business Portfolio is the control layer you access from it.

Also important to know:
Meta Business Portfolio is the new name for Meta Business Manager.

Same system.
New name.
Once this was clear, everything made sense.

What each one is actually used for:
Meta Business Suite
For execution.
Posting content.
Replying to messages.
Checking insights.

Meta Business Portfolio (Business Manager)
For control.
Business emails.
People access.
Permissions.
Ad accounts.
Billing.
Ownership.

So when I needed to update the business email,
the correct place was Business Portfolio,
not the main Suite dashboard.

In simple terms, the process looked like this:
Open Meta Business Suite
Go to Settings / Business settings
Access Business Portfolio
Update or add the business email
Adjust roles and permissions as needed

One clarification that’s easy to miss:
Changing a business email
does not change your personal Facebook login.

Your Facebook credentials stay the same.
Only business access is updated.

The rule I’ll remember:
If it affects access or ownership, it lives in Business Portfolio. If it affects daily work, it lives in Business Suite.

Sharing this because many Meta “issues” aren’t bugs.
They’re misunderstandings of structure.

Knowing where things live
makes working on Meta much easier.
