This man was known as the "Greatest Banker of his Generation" - He made $40 Million trading at 16 and founded a Multinational Banking Empire 
But, here's a fascinating lesson from his story:

His Bank lost 45% of its' Net Income on a "Risk Free" investment

Edmond Safra was only 15 when his dad sent him to establish a presence in Milan, Italy.
The teenager, fluent in 6 languages and unlimited potential, surpassed expectations with his eye for Value and knack for managing risks.

The $40 Million trade was just the beginning.

Over the next years, he built a Global Financial Empire across 3 continents. 
A key piece was Republic National Bank of New York (RNB).

By the early 90s, he was multi-Billionaire. But, he wasn't done.
Russia was in the process of transitioning from Communism to Capitalism and there were nearly unlimited opportunities.

Alongside 2 other partners, he founded Hermitage Capital Management which became one of the largest Western investors in Russia.

RNB also played a key role in Safra's expanding footprint in Russia:
1) It was the preferred correspondent bank for most Russian Banks
2) It had significant investments in Russian Bonds.

Government Bonds are debt obligations and considered some of the "lowest risk" investment types. 
Especially if they are in the country's currency, since the Central Bank can always print money and repay it.

If history has taught us anything it's that there is no such thing as Completely Risk Free.
And even the most successful of investors can make grave miscalculations.

By the late 90s, Russia was heavily dependent on Foreign Investment and was struggling to control Government spending.
Foreign Investors, already spooked by the Asian Financial Crisis happening, started to withdraw money from emerging markets (including Russia).

This put pressure on the Ruble (Russia's currency) and by 1998 the Russian Government had to abandon the exchange rate it had tried to maintain.

This caused the Ruble to devalue.

The Russian Government defaulted on it's Rubble denominated debt (even though many assumed they would just print more money and repay it) and announced a suspension of payment on foreign debt.

Safra's Republic National Bank of New York lost 45% of its Net Income and a massive chunk of its investments.

Edmond Safra, by then in his late 60s, sold the bank to HSBC one year later.
The Book Red Notice mentions this ordeal as one of the main reasons why.

Not even the Greatest Banker of his generation was immune to hidden Risks.

Telling someone struggling financially to stop buying coffee isn't help
It's telling them to give up one of their last affordable joys
(And it doesn't work) 

I get it. 
Coffee at home is cheaper.
The Food in the Fridge is surely healthier.
Walking instead of cabbing it is good for me.

I get it. I agree. And, for the most part, I apply the above.
But, here's the thing:

When someone is holding down a job, hustling to get their business off the ground or drowning in Life responsibilities AND STILL struggling, the last thing they want to hear is "Just don't buy the Latte."

Because what they're hearing isn't simple cost saving math. 
It's "Cut out the few rewards and pleasures you're treating yourself to"
and "You have major money problems but yea... Coffee"

(Even though, technically, it would lead to cost saving)

Many won't agree but cutting back on spending habits gets much easier AFTER getting on track with your Finances.
Good Habits create more Good Habits.
Momentum creates more Momentum.

The Million Dollar Question is: How do you get on track ? How do you start ?

The answer will be different for everyone but I can share 3 tips that worked for me:

1-Have a Why

I know. I know... It's a cliche but it works! 
Why do you want to improve your Finances ? To reduce stress ? To retire in a few years ?

It's a tired piece of advice but it will go a long way in shaping your first steps.

2-Understand the things that Enrich your Life and make them part of your plan. Cut out those that don't, first.

I had a friend whose perfect Friday morning includes scrambled eggs before work in his favorite spot ("Food Game" for my Dublin peeps).
He literally looked forward to it all week long. 

Let the man have his Food Game eggs!

3-Accept it won't be Easy but it's worth it!

This man was the World's Richest 29 year old with a fortune of $26 Billion - Now, He's sentenced to 25 years in Prison

The details are Netflix documentary worthy.

Here's what you need to know 👇

It was good to be Sam Bankman-Fried in early 2022.

In just 3 short years:
His Crypto Exchange, FTX was the 2nd largest in the World
A-List Celebrities and Athletes were his biggest endorsers
Politicians consulted him on the future of Crypto
 
The 29 year old was on top of the world... and he couldn't seem to care less.

The Media was baffled by his simple way of living and his humility towards what he had achieved: "No one aside from Mark Zuckerbeg had gotten so rich so young".

By November 2022, it all came crashing down.

SBF was mostly known for creating FTX, a Cryptocurrency Exchange.
Basically, a marketplace where clients buy and sell Crypto.
FTX makes money from fees.

But, he also owned Alameda Research, a separate Crypto Trading Firm.
Alameda essentially bets on Crypto going up and down and if they get it right they profit. (Or Lose...)
To say the least, their trades were risky.

The 2 entities are supposed to be separate. Unfortunately, behind the scenes they weren't.

It seems SBF was taking customer funds from FTX and using them to fund Alameda Research bets.
Towards, the end of 2022, Alameda had massive losses from bad trades.

A rumored $8 Billion hole existed.

When whispers about FTX's financial health surfaced, customers panicked and tried to withdraw their money. 

However, FTX couldn't pay because the funds were tied up in Alameda's risky trades. 

This triggered a Bank run, leading to FTX's bankruptcy and leaving billions of dollars in customer funds inaccessible.

The $32 Billion Exchange collapsed within days.

SBF was charged with Fraud and Conspiracy and convicted to 25 years in Prison.

The court also ruled FTX depositors will be repaid the $ value of their assets on the date of the collapse.

(ie: if you had 1 Bitcoin in FTX worth $50K on November 2022, you will be repaid $50K. Not 1 Bitcoin.)

Many are not happy with this due to the recent surge of Crypto prices and their belief in its long term potential.

This chart's message is clear: 0% of Investors have lost money holding the S&P500 for 20+years 🤯 
But here's what it doesn't tell you:

The chart's headline is true. 0% of investors who have held on to the S&P500 have lost money.
That's a HUGE win for those who prefer long term investing.

Especially if you're like me and:
-Hate the idea of watching prices and charts every day
-Want a solid investment strategy that doesn't require constant attention

But there are 2 things to keep in mind:

1) This doesn't apply to ALL investments. 
There are stocks and indexes which have lost money in the past 20 years.
Some have even went broke.
You still have to pick a winner.

2)  You still need a strong stomach and conviction.
If you've been invested for 20 years, you held through the 2008 financial crisis and 2020 crash.
Easy right... ?

Long Term Investing is Simple and allows you to leverage the 8th wonder of the world: Compounding.

Just keep in mind:
Simple isn't Easy.
Make sure your investment is compounding in the right direction.

You'll never guess 2024's best performing US stock
Its' share price jumped 240% in one day 🤯 
(It's not Nvidia or an AI company)

Let's get this out of the way: a one day 240% jump in stock price raises eyebrows.
My first reaction is "A lot of people are jumping on a trend"

When you see it happening, it's usually a combination of Hype around the sector and Rumored/announced Great News 

Extra factor: it's usually not a very large business yet. 
(It's much harder to move a $500 Billions company's market cap than a $4 Billion one)

In the case of this company,all of the above converged: 
-Weight Loss therapeutics have gained popularity recently with many major companies either with or developing their own.

-Investors are looking for little known opportunities in the sector.  

-They found this "clinical stage company" with a promising, but not yet approved, solution called VK2735

This was enough to send the stock up 351% in 1 year and 240% in one day!

I guess investors figured IF the solution is approved and IF it can capture a tiny share of the growing weight loss solution market, this will make the investment worthwhile.

Otherwise, there's a high chance it will bust.

Very High Risk, very High Reward.

How can You invest in the World's biggest Start Ups including OpenAI, SpaceX and Stripe ? This Fund wants to do it for you 👇  
The Destiny Tech 100 launched 12 days ago and is up 1,000% 

Here's what you need to know 

A common Finance headline is "If you had invested $100 in Nvidia at IPO, you would have $100,000." (or something...) 
But some investors got in earlier.

Much earlier...

The thing is IPO stands for Initial Public Offering ie: when the public is allowed to buy and sell its' stock.

Imagine the gains if you had shares of Nvidia BEFORE it went public.
Your returns would likely be multiple times higher than buying at IPO.

But, as members of the public, we're unlikely to get access to pre-IPO companies. (Much less in multiple at once)

The Destiny Tech 100 Fund wants to change this. 

The Fund itself trades on the Stock Exchange but invests solely in Pre-IPO companies.

Interesting.

They have apparently acquired shares in some impressive start ups including: 
SpaceX
OpenAI
Stripe
Revolut
Epic Games
The goal is to invest in 100 hot start ups (currently at 23)

They did this either by: 
-brokering deals with the companies to buy shares 
-signing "Forward Contracts" with employees to receive the shares at a specific price once the company IPOs

As you can imagine, investors were quick to jump in as soon as the fund became available. The price skyrocketed 1,000% in mere days.

The potential upside of being this early on the "Next Big Thing" is massive.

But there are key risks to consider:
-There is no guarantee when/if the start ups will IPO
-There is no guarantee the fund WILL invest in 100 Start Ups
-You don't own a share in the start up, you own a share in the Fund.
-Investing in Start Ups is very risky (they won't all be Amazons and Nvidias)
-The Value of the Fund itself is already multiple times the value of its Assets
-The "Forward Contracts" are legally controversial

If yes, then you have a solid base.
Otherwise, forget about it.

A stock is a share in a business.
Would you invest in your local grocery just because someone said it's a good idea?

Stocks are usually cheaper than a share in a small business and you can easily buy and sell them.

So, it’s easy to FOMO into them.

If you're investing for the long term, imagine you're committing to becoming a partner in a local business.

Instead of buying an abstract thing you panic sell at the first sign of trouble.

He’s a firm believer in less is more when it comes to quality investments:

And once you’d punched through the card, you couldn’t make any more investments at all.

Facebook (Meta) is up 1250% since and worth $1.3 Trillion
But here's what the article got Right (and Wrong) 👇 

Instagram was acquired for $1 Billion.
It brings in over $50 billion per year.

This is one of the most successful acquisitions of all time.
And, Meta is one of the best investment of the past decades.

But, the Forbes article brings up a key point about how fast Social Media and Tech move: 

Instagram was created in 2010. Just a year and a half before it was acquired.

The author states:
-"In a mere 18 months, a company with 13 employees created a photo sharing experience that cut at the heart of the networking giant's product."

-"Which of the other top 50 companies in the world could feel existentially threatened by a 13-person startup with zero revenue? Verizon? Wal-Mart? Coca-Cola?"

-"There's too much Churn in Social Media"

In essence, he's saying "it's only a matter of time before the next big thing comes along"

He's right. There's no other industry like Tech where innovation can go from idea to hundreds of millions of people in months!

ChatGPT is one of the latest examples.

However, he underestimated how large the overall industry would get and how Good Meta would be at growing their share.

These 15 Stocks created $16 Trillion in Shareholder Wealth in 10 years 🤯 
But did you know there are 3 ways Stocks create wealth ?
Here's a quick breakdown:

1-Change in Market Cap: stock price increase/decrease.

90% of the time a Stock makes headlines, it's 1 of 2 things:
The stock went dramatically up or down.
It's also how most of the Wealth is created.

2-Share repurchase: company buys back it's own shares. 

In theory, less shares available = boost to the stock price.

3-Dividends: company distributes share of profits to its' shareholders.

This wealth creation avenue is the only one of the 3 where you directly receive gains.

The other 2 are "paper" gains (ie: not money in the bank until you sell). 
Oh, and Dividends are usually taxable...

As this chart by Morning Star writer Amy C. Arnott, shows: change in market price is the major driver of Wealth Creation (or Destruction).

But, Dividends and Share buybacks play a key role.
