As a veteran, I’ve seen firsthand the discipline, leadership, and resilience our community brings into business and civic leadership. What often gets overlooked is how powerful that network becomes when it’s intentionally connected.

My focus in this role will be simple:
• Strengthening the operational foundation of the chamber
• Expanding meaningful partnerships across the private sector, government, and community organizations
• Creating more opportunities for veteran-owned businesses to grow, collaborate, and lead

The 70% Rule for Decisions
If you have 70% of the information you want…


Make the decision.

Why?
Because waiting for perfect clarity creates three problems.

1. Lost Momentum

Momentum compounds.
Every delayed decision slows execution across the company.

2. Competitors Move Faster

Markets reward speed.
The company running experiments usually learns faster.

3. Teams Lose Confidence

Teams don’t expect perfect leaders.
They expect decisive ones.
Indecision creates uncertainty.

Great operators understand something simple:

Most decisions are reversible.
So they move fast.

Test.
 Learn.
 Adjust.

Because in business, speed creates learning.
And learning compounds.

Growth doesn't stall because of effort; it stalls because of diffusion. 

Most leaders respond to slowing momentum by adding more initiatives, more meetings, and more urgency. However, expansion without focus creates drag rather than acceleration. The real leverage point lies not in removing constraints but in operating with decisive clarity within them.

When time is limited, priorities surface. When capital is tight, waste becomes visible. When teams are lean, accountability sharpens. Abundance hides inefficiency, while constraint exposes it.

This week, I’m sharing a framework for cutting through the noise: The Leverage Filter. Here are four questions that force strategic clarity:

1. What single initiative would create disproportionate impact if executed exceptionally well?
2. What are we currently doing that creates motion but not measurable leverage?
3. If resources were cut in half, what would we protect at all costs?
4. What outcome must move this quarter for us to say we are progressing confidently?

Set aside 30 minutes for uninterrupted thought. Focus on full sentences and one priority.

Most founders are not losing because they lack effort.

They’re losing because they’re executing without a system.

Hard work without structure creates chaos.

Here’s the framework I use when evaluating a business:

The Execution Stack

1️⃣ 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆

What problem do you solve better than anyone else?

If this isn’t clear:

 • Marketing becomes random

 • Sales conversations lack focus

 • Teams pull in different directions

Strategy determines what deserves attention.

2️⃣ 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

Most founders run businesses with 20 active priorities.

High-performing organizations usually have 3–5.

If everything is important, nothing is.

Priorities determine where energy goes.

3️⃣ 𝗢𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽

This is where execution usually breaks.

Tasks exist.
But no one truly owns outcomes.

Real accountability sounds like this:

“This metric is mine.”

Ownership determines who drives results.

4️⃣ 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀

If success depends on heroic effort, the system is broken.

Strong organizations rely on:
• repeatable processes
• simple dashboards
• clear workflows

Systems determine how work happens.

When these four layers are aligned:

Execution becomes predictable.

When they aren’t:

Founders stay busy…

But the business never compounds.

Clarity and structure are the real growth engines.

Why Most Founders Stay Busy But Never Scale

Most founders try to scale their business by doing more.

More marketing.
More meetings.
More tools.
More ideas.

But scale rarely comes from more activity.

It comes from fixing the right constraint.

Here’s a framework I use when evaluating businesses.

The Founder Constraint Framework

Every business bottleneck usually lives in one of these four areas:

1. Market
You may not have a marketing problem.
You may have a market clarity problem.

Questions to ask:
 • Is the target customer clearly defined?
 • Is the problem urgent and valuable?
 • Does the market actually have the budget?

If the market is wrong, nothing else fixes it.

2. Offer
Many businesses sell things that are too generic.

Strong offers clearly answer:
Why this?
Why now?
Why you?

The clearer the offer, the easier the sale.

3. Distribution
The best product rarely wins.
The product with the best distribution does.

Ask yourself:
 • How do customers consistently find us?
 • Is there a repeatable lead engine?
 • Are we relying on referrals alone?

Distribution creates predictable growth.

4. Operations
Even when demand exists, growth stalls if operations break.

Common signs:
 • delivery delays
 • inconsistent customer experience
 • founders stuck in every decision

This is where systems matter.

Most founders attack the wrong problem.
They try to improve effort instead of identifying constraints.

The fastest way to grow a business is simple:
Find the bottleneck.
Fix the bottleneck.
Repeat.

4. Execution Cadence: Are your meetings producing decisions or just updates?

5. Growth Leverage: Do you know exactly where your next 20–30% revenue comes from?

Here's a quick exercise:

Rate each pillar 1–10. Be brutally honest.

If anything scores 5 or below — that's your bottleneck.
Most founders find 2–3 pillars in the red zone.

That's not failure. That's the most valuable information you can have.
The companies that scale predictably aren't working harder.

They've identified their constraints. Then removed them — one pillar at a time.
