My only son was diagnosed with autism in December 2022 at the age of 12. The stigma he has faced and the barriers to access to care have been startling and heartbreaking. This journey has changed who I am as a person but it has made me stronger and more prepared to fight for change. My primary goal is to use my prior experience and knowledge in the behavioral health space to breakdown the barriers that we faced in getting a timely diagnosis and linkage with therapists and providers. How do we do that? Education, awareness and advocacy. Education - to the general public on the barriers that still exist and how to push back against those barriers. Education - about stigma and misconceptions related to behavioral health. Education - to families on how to navigate these complex systems. Education - to providers on how to best utilize their resources to fully maximize their financial potential so they can provide more access to care. Awareness - that many individuals are not receiving timely diagnosis or access to care. Awareness - that treatment providers are suffering due to needlessly complex layers of funding rules and requirements. Advocacy - to have a voice for those who can not speak for themselves. Advocacy - to fight for equal treatment, care and funding for behavioral health issues. How can you help?
