As a freelance UX/UI designer I have built a rewarding and dynamic career that has allowed me flexibility, creativity and the opportunity to work on a variety of different projects with clients from all over the world. Projects I have worked on include industries from Fintech, fashion, e-commerce, start-ups, healthcare, wellness, climate-tech and the construction industry.

My expertise in UX fused with my experience in working across a range of sectors has enabled me to have a vast understanding of how various industries work and how UX design can help facilitate the success of products and digital experiences to reach a desired future state that is future-proofed and designed to scale.

As a freelance UX/UI designer, I am responsible for designing and improving user experiences and user interfaces for websites, mobile apps, and other digital products and platforms, regularly creating wireframes and prototypes, user journeys, user personas and other key UX exercises to address user needs and solve business challenges.

UX UI Designer

Yugen Agency 🌍

My responsibilities within Yugen Agency consists of working closely with the creative directors to support on various projects, providing a wealth of UX design expertise to take the projects from concept to completion throughout the project lifecycle. I leverage a range of UX practices and processes, as part of an overall design thinking approach to unpack business goals, understanding target users and ideating design opportunities through wireframing, prototyping and high fidelity visual design.

I support running various collaborative workshops via Figjam to work through a range of exercises appropriate for individual use cases, including user personas, empathy maps, customer journey maps, stylescapes, task flows, red routes and much more.

Design phase day to day consists of working through lo-fi sketches, to wireframing, prototyping and creating design systems through Figma and Sketch.

UX/UI Designer

ODEON Cinemas Group

As a Guest Experience Supervisor at Odeon Cinemas, my primary responsibility would be to ensure the smooth operation of the cinema and to provide a positive and enjoyable experience for our guests. My role would involve managing a team of cinema staff and overseeing their work to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Another important aspect of my job would be to ensure that all customer service needs are met. This would involve working closely with other staff members to ensure that customers are greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner, that they are provided with accurate information about movies and showtimes, and that any issues or complaints are addressed promptly and satisfactorily.

Another important aspect of my role would be to program films for the upcoming week. This would involve scheduling the films and adverts in accordance to the guide supplied to us, making sure to avoid any clashes. Overall, my role as a cinema supervisor would be to ensure that the cinema operates smoothly and that customers have a positive and enjoyable experience. This would involve managing staff, overseeing cleaning and maintenance tasks, providing excellent customer service, managing inventory.

Guest Experience Supervisor

University of Oxford

Working alongside the Graduate Accommodation team, my duties included researching and developing an online social media presence with the core purpose to inform and expand interaction between university student accommodation tenants. Projects include conducting and facilitating student focus groups, formulating reports from user research and online surveys, which were undertaken through consultations with existing students, the Graduate Accommodation team and the student union. This initial research was crucial in creating an effective and informative social media presence, by means of visually appealing social media campaigns tailored towards the key demographic of students and the student union. Conducting user research has been a core part of the role in order to ensure an accurate level of information has been cascaded across the University organisation.

Another key aspect of the role includes creating initial prototype designs, user journeys, storyboarding and wireframing in anticipation of ultimately designing and delivering an exceptional standard of visual and graphic design campaigns based all on feedback from the key demographic within the prior research phase.

Social Media Specialist

Hawkin's Bazaar

My core role with Hawkins Bazaar as the Assistant Manager involved dealing with customer service and members of the public on a day-to-day basis. Duties ranged from sorting and processing in store deliveries, to managing a range of temporary and permanent staff. Recruitment was also a key role and I conducted a range of interviews and training for a range of retail sales advisors of all ages.

In addition, I would accommodate a wealth of new store openings in the form of ‘shop fits’. I would travel the country setting up new stores and hiring for said location. Similarly, I would also facilitate the closing down of various store locations for many temporary seasonal locations.

Visual Merchandising was also a key aspect to the role which I found to be extremely fun and rewarding. This speaks volumes for my creativity and passion for visual design and display.

Assistant Manager

Oxford University Press

My role as part of assisting the administrative duties within the Oxford University Press included excel data manipulation, maintaining relations across the business via a wealth of communication platforms, maintain audio script integrity and accuracy, evaluating and facilitating recording amendments, compiling a list of props and costumes, events management,  magazine demographic research, compiling press releases into visual web pages via HTML format, removing books from the soutron website and creating new barcodes and cataloguing new items that come into the library.

In addition, a core role within this position was maintaining the social media presence via means of social media platforms such as Twitter. Duties would include responding to a range of queries and complaints. It is important to note that the public persona always ensures the information and communication delivered is relatable to the key demographic.

Hello! 👋 My name is Amy, and I am a User Experience Designer with over 5 years of experience in the field. I am passionate about creating engaging and intuitive experiences that provide value to users while fulfilling business objectives.

Throughout my career, I have worked on various projects across different industries, ranging from e-commerce and healthcare to education and entertainment. My approach to design is user-centered, meaning that I strive to understand the needs and goals of users through research and analysis before crafting solutions that meet their needs.

My skillset includes a range of design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Sketch and Adobe Creative Suite. 

In addition to design skills, I have excellent communication and collaboration skills, which enable me to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. 

Overall, I am a curious and creative problem solver who enjoys tackling complex challenges and delivering impactful solutions. I am always looking to learn and grow as a designer and stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in the field.

I can’t be the only designer who finds auto layout in Figma scary, right? 🥲🤯

It's SUCH a powerful tool, but why do I find it so intimidating!?

I've been playing around with auto layout for the best part of 6 months (I know, I should have done this months and months ago 🙃) and I don’t know why I put off learning how to use the tool for so long!

Yes, it's SO intimidating to start out with, and it did slow me down initially while I was getting used to it. But does it speed up your design process? Of course, it does - and I feel like such a fool for putting it off for so long.

If you are also intimidated to start using auto layout, this is your sign to try it out during your next project!

Is it really worth my time to sit in a strategy workshops? 

Hell yeah! There is a ton of value in carrying out these sessions and is something I always look forward to at the start of a project, not only does it get us stuck straight in with a project but it is a chance for me to build a relationship with clients. 

There are sooo many benefits to carrying out these sessions. Here are a few👇🏻

→  Gain alignment with key stakeholders
→  Unpacking of requirements
→  Getting a clear picture of what needs to be done
→  Allows us to focus on your user needs
→  We can identify and limit any potential issues in the project
→  Help create an effective roadmap 
  
In short, invest that time in strategy workshops, it is 100% worthwhile!
