Forget New Year’s resolutions. Ask better questions.

You don’t rise to the level of your goals.
You fall to the quality of your questions. 
 
Most people skip reflection.
But goals without reflection = movement without direction.

I used to do the same.
Start the year fast. New plans. Bigger goals.
All without stopping to ask if any of it actually fit the person I was becoming.

It looked productive. But it wasn’t aligned.

So how did you set your goals this year? 

Did you stop to reflect first?

Did you sit with what worked, what didn’t, who you became and what you’re no longer available for?

Or did you default to more goals, more plans, more motion?

Most people build lives, businesses, and identities that look good on paper but don’t actually fit.

Before you write a single goal, ask these questions  👇
They create the clarity everything else gets built on.

If you set goals before asking these, it's ok.
Pause. reflect. recalibrate.

This isn’t about planning harder.
It’s about getting honest so what you build actually fits.

18 questions to design a year you're proud of

I read 52 books last year.

Most people ask: “Which ones were the best?”

Wrong question.

The real question is: 
What changed because I read them? 

Consumption is easy.
Action is rare.

And over time, the world doesn’t reward what you know.
It rewards what you can apply, build, and repeat.

I'm not building a bookshelf
(though a home library is on my vision board)

I'm building better decisions, better filters, and better systems.

That’s why I think about books this way:
Books are tools.
The value isn’t in owning them.
It’s in using them.

I'm curating my 2026 reading list now and only adding books that earn their shelf space through real-world use.

And call it a year well spent?

Most people don't fail. They repeat.

Repeating days that don’t reflect what they say matters.
Repeating calendars that reward busyness, not clarity.
Repeating habits that keep everything running, but nothing moving.

They call it being realistic.
But let’s be honest...it’s settling.

Ordinary isn’t neutral.
It’s just the version of life we stopped challenging.

You don’t drift into an extraordinary life.
You choose it. Over and over again.
In your standards.
In your habits.
In what you tolerate and what you no longer do.

Extraordinary isn’t bigger or louder.
It’s more aligned.
More intentional.
More honest.

So ask yourself:

→ Are you building momentum or maintenance?
→ Are you designing your days or reacting to them?
→ Are you becoming the person you said you would?

The goal isn’t to live the same week 52 times.
It’s to live each one a little more on purpose.

What do you see when you look in the mirror...someone on autopilot or someone becoming who they're meant to be?

At one point in my career, I was averaging 37.5 hours of meetings per week.

That’s 90% of my Monday through Friday.
I’m not exaggerating. 
I did the math.

Yes, I was working well over 40 hours.
But almost all of it was spent talking about work.
Not actually doing it. 

No time to think. 
No space to lead.
No capacity to do the job I was hired to do.

When I showed my boss the breakdown, they were shocked.
But I wasn’t.

Because the real problem wasn’t my calendar.
It was the culture behind it.

“If you’re not in the room, you’re not important.”

We don’t say that out loud.
But it drives how we show up, how we schedule, how we burn out. 

So we accept meeting overload as a badge of visibility.
When what we really need is permission to opt out.

So I started asking better questions:

→ What are we really doing here?
→ What value does each person add?
→ Can this be an email or async instead?

And if a meeting had to happen, I used this lens:

The Meeting Audit 
There are only 3 reasons to meet:

1. Decode & Debate
To surface insight, risks, and blind spots together.
If it’s just info, send an email.

2. Decide
To make a choice and move.
If there’s no decision to make, cancel it.

3. Team Build
To align, reset, or strengthen the team.
If we’re not deepening trust, we’re wasting time.

If a meeting didn’t hit one of those, I declined it, made async, or cut it in half.

Here’s what happened when I did:

→ I reclaimed 10+ hours a week.
→ I got more done and stressed less.
→ I stopped mistaking visibility for value.

Meetings aren’t the problem.
Pretending they all matter is.

Here's a gut check for the next invite:

Will this decode?
Will this decide?
Will this build the team?

If not, decline it.
