After completing an Employment Law degree in Spain (Graduado Social) in 1994, I moved to the UK. A couple of years later I started working in asylum and immigration when I became a casework assistant at the now defunct Refugee Legal Centre (RLC). During my time at the RLC I started a law conversion course with the intention of becoming a solicitor. I joined Wilson Solicitors in April 1999, initially as a caseworker in time progressing as a trainee solicitor, qualifying as a solicitor in July 2003. All of my training was done in Immigration, Asylum, Nationality and Human Rights Law. In 2010 I became a partner. At the beginning of my career, I focused on publicly funded asylum cases, human trafficking and victims of domestic violence. As time went by I became very interested in all aspects of Immigration Law including personal and business immigration. I still do a great deal of asylum cases. These days most of my asylum clients seek protection for being LGBTI, transgender or apostates. These have become my main areas of asylum expertise, although I still represent clients fleeing political persecution. European Law cases were a big part of my caseload prior to Brexit when I became very involved in assisting individuals to remain in the UK via the EUSS. Although due to funding cuts I am not in a position to undertake pro bono cases, I donate my time to a number of organisations supporting vulnerable migrants. I have also provided pro bono training to Local Authorities all over the country on human trafficking, British nationality and the various immigration avenues available to regularise the immigration status of foreign nationals in their care. As a result I am regularly instructed to draft bespoke Legal Expert Opinions to be used in care proceedings in the Family Courts. As a lawyer, I am very passionate about my clients and strive to provide the best possible service to meet their individual needs and resolve their legal issues - in a practical and cost-effective manner. I try to be as flexible as possible in order to support my clients during challenging times, always with respect and compassion. At Wilson Solicitors I lead a team of very talented lawyers who also secure successful outcomes for most of their clients. I am also Deputy Head of our Immigration Department. I am double ranked in the 2023 edition of Chambers and Partners, Band 2 in Immigration, Asylum, Human Rights and Deportation and Band 1 in Personal Immigration. In their 2023 edition, Legal 500 recognised me as a Leading Individual (Tier 1) in Immigration.
