I didn’t graduate high school.

Well I did, sort of.

Let me explain.

I moved out at 15, stayed at a few of my friends’ houses, and was about to go into my junior year of high school.

A few months into the start of my young adult life I was hanging out at my best friend’s house, words were said, and his stepdad broke his nose.

So his mom co-signed for an apartment for us in exchange for him to not press charges.

We got a place together that turned into “the spot” to be for kids in high school. Especially living in a party town like Chico, California.

I was still 15yo…

I was working two jobs to pay for rent while trying to make school work.

I couldn’t do both… I ended up having to go to a continuation school called “Academy For Change” (AFC for short) because of truancy and other issues.

The principal of that school (who was also head of the whole school district) saw me struggling. He knew I didn’t belong there. This was a place where kids were handcuffed when a fight broke out (which happened at least once every day) and the whole school was run by parole officers and juvenile detention center officers.

This place sucked.

But I had to go for months until one day, this kid (“Vegas Finest” tattooed on his neck) wanted to fight me for no reason other than he was having a bad day. I did what I do best and tried to talk my way out of what could have been a really bad situation.

Well it got worse.

The kid ended up bringing a BB gun to school the next day after our conversation in the cafeteria, to idk, take care of me?

It was immediately found.

We were both pulled into different rooms, while the school got locked down.

I remember talking with this one parole officer and he had it out for me. Said I probably made a ton of threats and I should just go to jail.

Mr Sullivan, head of the school district, found out what really happened through other kids around us at the time and pulled me into his office.

He told me something I won’t ever forget.

“Wtf are you even doing here? You seem like the kind of kid who will push a button to help save the world one day”

Idk about that… lol, but he was right. I was just dealt the wrong hand and was in a spot where life expected me to be.

The following week he pulled some strings and got me a ticket out of that school. The deal was, if I attended two college classes a week and worked 30 hours, he could justify my graduation.

So for the next year, and some, that’s exactly what I did.

So technically my last few years of high school were full-time at work, and two gen-ed classes every semester that I had to take at Butte College, our local community college.

I got my high school degree from the same school that basically kicked me out and sent me to AFC.

I didn’t get the chance to walk like a normal grad, but I got a paper the day of graduation.

So why am I sharing this?

Because it doesn’t matter where you come from. You’re in charge of your life.

Is this the future of friendships? 


I really doubt it. 

We shouldn't be looking at real-time AI avatars to replace human beings, but instead use them to create a more substantial impact in business when we need to scale or when our team is unavailable. 

For example, I'm a big language learner and when my tutor isn't available to talk with me (due to different time zones) then I can practice with an AI Persona that will help me keep improving. 

Or even when there isn't a sales agent available to answer your questions when you land on a website... why not add a customized AI Persona to that page where your visitors get instant answers and can even more forward with booking a meeting with the right person on the team? 

So even though it's fun to make videos like these showing how AI Personas are replacing humans, it shouldn't be the goal. 

Humans should always be in the loop.

Algorithm changes on social media mean marketers are constantly testing, tweaking, and pivoting their content.

If you want to "engineer" virality, the fastest way is to join an engagement pod.
Why does it work? Because posts that get strong engagement, likes, comments, and replies within the first hour get pushed further by the algorithm.

But enhancements always come with a cost...

You'll eventually start to lose credibility and trust.
People notice when your post has 80 identical positive comments from the same crowd every time from people who haven't actually tried "x" tactic. 

The truth is, everyone is chasing shortcuts to win traffic, but it won’t build a brand.

Keep it OG.

Engage with the right people, in the right communities, who engage back. 
Leave thoughtful comments that reflect your genuine perspective, but be considerate. Bring real conversations into DMs, exchange value, share lessons over a quick call, and help others grow. 

Sure this feels like a ton of work, because it is. And I'm not saying there aren't ways to bring AI into the mix to help a bit... but understand that there is a fine line between instant growth hacks and building trust through traditional ways. 

At the end of the day the goal when starting a brand should always be focused on building a trusted community that genuinely cares about the problem you're solving. 

Those people turn into your champions, your first customers, the people who will vouch for you. 

And that my friends, is how a consistent qualified pipeline is born.

If you were sitting in my club in 2017 and told me that in 8 years the most engaging videos would be made using an open AI image generation tool to create AI avatars of babies who spoke like adults sitting in a podcast studio...  

I would have told you to get tf out. Then I would have added you to the "do not serve this person" list so the staff knew to never sell you alcohol again, because you obviously have a problem. 

Well joke's on me, hu?

Do you gender your AI agent? 

I asked a question last night at a panel in NYC about adding a human-like face to AI agents and what the panelists' opinions were on this. 

Now, these were some very qualified AI leaders from companies like Uber, n8n, and Mastercard, speaking about the future of AI, so their opinions definitely sparked my curiosity. 

One answered, basically "hell no", but I think that was because we tend to take sides right away when asked this question, one side being used companionship and the other more towards how it can drive impact on revenue or time saved.
 
The second answer was "I've seen companies using static AI avatars for training, but they still come off uncanny (not human)". This is a valid point that comes up from time to time in the space.

Do we naturally add a gender to AI agents?

I've never thought about it to be honest, but logically I think it makes sense that most of us do.

I think it just makes us more comfortable to do this? Idk the answer and I'm sure there is or will be a much deeper report on this in the future, but has this ever come up in your mind?
