I was the kid who climbed a 30 ft tall oak tree on a Romanian hillside to glimpse a wider horizon, then hustled before sunrise for bread rations during Communism, and walked cows to pasture—lessons in grit I didn’t yet have words for. Someone came up to me recently and told me how, after IMEX, they decided to give push-ups a chance. They were still buzzing with that “I can’t believe I did that” energy.

They told me they never thought they could do a single push-up. Not one.
But they went home and tried anyway.

At first they got through one. Then another. And before they knew it, they weren’t doing one push-up, they were doing many.

And something shifted for them.

 Their confidence.
 Their mindset.
 Their sense of what they were capable of.
All unlocked by a rep they were convinced they weren’t capable of.

 Confidence.
 Identity.
 Power.

I smiled because I know that moment better than anyone.

In 2020, my entire world collapsed at once, emotionally, professionally, personally. I didn’t have a playbook for how to rebuild myself, so I did the only thing that made sense at the time. I walked into my closet, grabbed onto the pull-up bar, and hung there like my life depended on it.

 One tiny act of reclaiming myself.

That’s where my rebuild began.
One push-up became two.
Two became twenty.
Twenty became a bodybuilding stage.
A bodybuilding stage became a championship.

So when someone tells me one push-up changed their confidence, rebuilt their sense of what’s possible, or helped them see themselves differently, I believe them completely.

Because that’s exactly how it worked for me.
 Rep by rep.
 Day by day.
 Identity rebuilt in the quiet moments when no one was watching.

Working against your genetic makeup is a grind most people will never understand. Rewriting what your body naturally does, what your family has passed down for generations, is not a weekend project.


 It’s daily, deliberate, relentless work.

And anyone who’s ever tried to change something deeply rooted in their biology knows exactly what I mean.

If your body is predisposed to store weight in certain places, it takes real effort to shift that.

If your muscle groups develop in a way that doesn’t match your goals, you’re in for years of targeted, disciplined work.

Same with glutes. I know this one personally. I’ve spent two, almost three years reshaping mine for competition, and it has been the hardest physical project of my life.

Not because I don’t train hard, but because doing it naturally is slow. No shortcuts, no enhancements, no surgeries, just nutrition dialed in to the gram and heavy sets pushed with intention every single day.

And this isn’t just about bodybuilding.

It’s the same with habits, addiction patterns, emotional wiring, generational programming. 

When you choose to change something that lives in your cells, you’re choosing the long road.

The road that demands consistency, discipline, sacrifice, and patience.

But the reward hits different.

Because you know you earned every inch of progress. You built it with your own hands, your own choices, your own discipline.

Mentorship is a strange thing. People talk about it like it’s a program you join, a match you make, a title someone earns. 


I’ve only had a few real mentors in the true sense of the word. The kind who saw something in me before I could name it. The kind who challenged me, pushed me, sharpened me.

But here’s the truth I’ve learned over two decades in AV and events:

Mentorship isn’t always formal. 
Most of it isn’t.

▫️Some people mentor you accidentally.
A single sentence. A moment when they made room for you. A handoff on a show site that said “You’ve got this” without ever saying the words.

▫️Some people mentor you by example.
The calm showcaller. The tech who triple-checks everything without making noise about it. The leader who treats the crew like humans, not widgets.

▫️And some people mentor you by contrast.
The ones who taught me exactly who I never wanted to become. The ones whose leadership was all ego, no backbone. They taught me boundaries, resilience, and that no title is worth losing your humanity for.

These unofficial mentors have shaped me just as much as the official ones.

And now?
In this season, especially with my work in AI and #fit4events, I find myself paying attention to a different kind of mentorship.

▪️The curiosity mentors.
The people who lean into change instead of fighting it. The ones who ask better questions, build better systems, and model the kind of growth mindset that keeps this industry alive.

Mentorship is not a job description.
It’s influence.
Sometimes intentional, sometimes not.
But always shaping us.

And if you’re lucky, you become that for someone else without even realizing it.

Sacrifice is the price of entry for anything worth doing. Not the polished, inspirational version people like to quote. The real kind.


The kind that costs you comfort, ego, and the easy road.
The kind that forces you to choose the long game when the short-term hit is right there, begging for attention.

Most people avoid that level of discomfort, which is exactly why they stay where they are.

🔥 Average habits build average lives. 🔥

The ones who rise are the ones willing to give something up in order to gain something greater later.

And here’s where I’ll say this with a smile.

If you ever want a crash course in sacrifice, have kids.

Kids are like Sacrifice 101, a comedic masterclass in putting someone else first. You’ll never know just how far your patience stretches until a tiny human tests it with the confidence of a Navy SEAL instructor who missed naptime. It’s the fastest way to learn that your life is no longer centered on your comfort.

But the lesson doesn’t belong exclusively to parents.

You don’t need kids to learn self-sacrifice.

Life has no shortage of teachers.

Train for something that demands more of you than you think you have. 

Build something from scratch. 

Show up for people even when it isn’t convenient. 

Commit to a discipline that doesn’t care how tired you are. 

Serve a community, mentor someone, stay consistent with something that matters.

Sacrifice is universal.

It’s available to anyone willing to step into a life that’s bigger than their impulses and braver than their excuses. 

Kids might fast-track the lesson, but every one of us has the chance to practice choosing growth over comfort, again and again, until who we become reflects what we were willing to give.

That’s where the real momentum begins. #fit4events™️

As the year slows into Thanksgiving, I took a minute to pause, and feel grateful for everything that this year brought forth, lots of growth that demanded courage and delivered clarity.

This year, my work as a speaker and AI strategist stepped into bolder territory. I crossed new boundaries into agentic AI, exploring how intelligent systems can elevate performance, strategy, and scale while staying human at the core. These sessions, workshops, keynotes, conversations, and advisory roles sharpened my leadership and expanded the way I approach AI and innovation.

At Tree-Fan Events Production, we made some hard but intentional choices. We refined our focus, choosing alignment over volume, saying yes to the clients we love and no to those who no longer fit our values. Here's to stronger relationships, cleaner energy, and space to grow new areas of the business in parallel. 

Alongside this, I travel internationally several times for our video production projects, as well as live event projects, all the while invested time in growing the Events: demystified Podcast, and delivering #fit4events™ resilience sessions that merge leadership, performance, and wellbeing. 

On a personal level, my bodybuilding journey mirrored the same standards I hold in my work. I stepped on stage once and placed 2nd, and later in the prep made the conscious decision to pull out of a major national show to return next year as an even stronger version of myself. I hold high expectations for myself, and I meet them with discipline, strategy, and respect for the process. That mindset carries through everything I touch.

This year I delivered a LOT of content, wrote a lot of words towards posts, articles, blogs and especially my book, which I shared part of that journey on here. As always, I pushed hard, I played hard, and I took myself out of comfort zone more times than I could count, stepping into new areas of development that expanded my capacity and sharpened my edge.

I am thankful for the drive, the consistency, the discipline I have as well the people who stood beside me, and the work that continues to fulfill me. If you were part of this journey, know that your collaboration, trust, and energy mattered. The path forward remains intentional, bold, and unapologetically focused.

Ultimately, this year was not about volume. It was about alignment, excellence, and direction.

To every client, collaborator, partner, and community that trusted my work and walked alongside me, thank you. Your belief fueled another powerful chapter, and the vision continues to evolve with purpose and precision.

And above all, I am grateful for my family. My foundation, my grounding force, and the reason every pursuit carries meaning.

Bodybuilding, mental clarity and a push-up challenge: Leading yourself first with Anca Platon Trifan

Here's to choosing my health over my busy schedule for the 1685th time. A reminder really.



Every time I step into the gym, I practice the same thing I preach in leadership, events, and AI strategy: you cannot lead anyone if you can’t first lead yourself. 

And you cannot lead yourself if you abandon yourself at the first sign of discomfort.

This is what 1685 workouts really measure:

✔️ How many times I chose to show up for myself when no one else could do it for me.

✔️ How many times I rebuilt my resilience rep by rep, set by set, season after season.

✔️ How many days I decided that my goals were worth honoring, even when life was loud, messy, or exhausting.

People see strength. I see self-trust. I see a woman who chose herself 1685 times, even on the days when she didn’t feel like it.

Discipline isn’t loud. 
Consistency isn’t glamorous. 
Self-leadership doesn’t trend.

But they build everything else.

Here’s to the next workout. 
And the one after that. 
And the quiet promise I keep making to myself, 
to continue leading from the inside out.
